2010-11-28tcp: restrict net.ipv4.tcp_adv_win_scale (#20312)Alexey Dobriyan1-0/+1
tcp_win_from_space() does the following: if (sysctl_tcp_adv_win_scale <= 0) return space >> (-sysctl_tcp_adv_win_scale); else return space - (space >> sysctl_tcp_adv_win_scale); "space" is int. As per C99 6.5.7 (3) shifting int for 32 or more bits is undefined behaviour. Indeed, if sysctl_tcp_adv_win_scale is exactly 32, space >> 32 equals space and function returns 0. Which means we busyloop in tcp_fixup_rcvbuf(). Restrict net.ipv4.tcp_adv_win_scale to [-31, 31]. 2010-11-25cgroups: make swap accounting default behavior configurableMichal Hocko1-0/+5
Swap accounting can be configured by CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR_SWAP configuration option and then it is turned on by default. There is a boot option (noswapaccount) which can disable this feature. This makes it hard for distributors to enable the configuration option as this feature leads to a bigger memory consumption and this is a no-go for general purpose distribution kernel. On the other hand swap accounting may be very usuful for some workloads. This patch adds a new configuration option which controls the default behavior (CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR_SWAP_ENABLED). If the option is selected then the feature is turned on by default. It also adds a new boot parameter swapaccount[=1|0] which enhances the original noswapaccount parameter semantic by means of enable/disable logic (defaults to 1 if no value is provided to be still consistent with noswapaccount). The default behavior is unchanged (if CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR_SWAP is enabled then CONFIG_CGROUP_MEM_RES_CTLR_SWAP_ENABLED is enabled as well) Signed-off-by: Michal Hocko <mhocko@suse.cz> Acked-by: Daisuke Nishimura <nishimura@mxp.nes.nec.co.jp> Cc: Balbir Singh <balbir@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Cc: KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki <kamezawa.hiroyu@jp.fujitsu.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2010-11-12led-class: always implement blinkingJohannes Berg1-9/+12
Currently, blinking LEDs can be awkward because it is not guaranteed that all LEDs implement blinking. The trigger that wants it to blink then needs to implement its own timer solution. Rather than require that, add led_blink_set() API that triggers can use. This function will attempt to use hw blinking, but if that fails implements a timer for it. To stop blinking again, brightness_set() also needs to be wrapped into API that will stop the software blink. As a result of this, the timer trigger becomes a very trivial one, and hopefully we can finally see triggers using blinking as well because it's always easy to use. 2010-11-12Restrict unprivileged access to kernel syslogDan Rosenberg1-0/+14
The kernel syslog contains debugging information that is often useful during exploitation of other vulnerabilities, such as kernel heap addresses. Rather than futilely attempt to sanitize hundreds (or thousands) of printk statements and simultaneously cripple useful debugging functionality, it is far simpler to create an option that prevents unprivileged users from reading the syslog. This patch, loosely based on grsecurity's GRKERNSEC_DMESG, creates the dmesg_restrict sysctl. When set to "0", the default, no restrictions are enforced. When set to "1", only users with CAP_SYS_ADMIN can read the kernel syslog via dmesg(8) or other mechanisms.
