When discard_max_hw_bytes was introduced, in commit 0034af036554
("block: make /sys/block/<dev>/queue/discard_max_bytes writeable"),
the discard_max_bytes documentation section was renamed to
discard_max_hw_bytes, but the references it contains to
discard_max_bytes weren't updated.
This patch refers to discard_max_hw_bytes instead. It also reflows the
paragraph so that sentences end lines.

Add a document to the subsystem/maintainer handbook section, which explains
what the tip tree is, how it operates and what rules and expectations it
has.
[ bp:
- Add a SPDX identifier, work in most comments from the thread.
- 9bf19b78a203 ("Documentation/submitting-patches: Document the SoB
chain") is also in the main Documentation but I'm leaving the
paragraph here because it has the proper structure - text talks about
SoBs and referencing somewhere else would interrupt the flow.
- Move backtraces in changelogs to main submitting-patches.rst.
- "Patch version information" is explained to a great detail in
submitting-patches.rst too.

General rules for patch submission, coding style and related details are
available, but most subsystems have their subsystem-specific extra rules
which differ or go beyond the common rules.
Mark suggested to add a subsystem/maintainer handbook section, where
subsystem maintainers can explain their specific quirks.
Add the section and link to it from the submitting-patches document.

The uartlite device is a "soft" device. Many parameters, such as baud
rate, data bits, and the presence of a parity bit are configured before
synthesis and may not be changed (or discovered) at runtime. However, we
must know what these settings are in order to properly calculate the
uart timeout (and to inform the user about the actual baud of the uart).
These properties are present for out-of-tree bindings generated by
Xilinx's tools. However, they are also (mostly) present in in-tree
bindings. I chose current-speed over xlnx, baudrate primarily because it
seemed to be used by more existing bindings. Although these properties
are marked as "required", note that only current-speed is required by
the driver itself. Hopefully, this will allow for an easier transition.

Invoking scripts/checkkconfigsymbols.py in the Linux-kernel source tree
located the following issues:
1. TREE_PREEMPT_RCU
Referencing files: arch/sh/configs/sdk7786_defconfig
It should now be CONFIG_PREEMPT_RCU. Except that the CONFIG_PREEMPT=y in
that same file implies CONFIG_PREEMPT_RCU=y. Therefore, delete the
CONFIG_TREE_PREEMPT_RCU=y line.
The reason is as follows:
In kernel/rcu/Kconfig, we have
config PREEMPT_RCU
bool
default y if PREEMPTION
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/kbuild/kconfig-language.txt says,
"The default value is only assigned to the config symbol if no other value
was set by the user (via the input prompt above)."
there is no prompt in config PREEMPT_RCU entry, so we are guaranteed to
get CONFIG_PREEMPT_RCU=y when CONFIG_PREEMPT is present.
2. RCU_CPU_STALL_INFO
Referencing files: arch/xtensa/configs/nommu_kc705_defconfig
The old Kconfig option RCU_CPU_STALL_INFO was removed by commit
75c27f119b64 ("rcu: Remove CONFIG_RCU_CPU_STALL_INFO"), and the kernel
now acts as if this Kconfig option was unconditionally enabled.
3. RCU_NOCB_CPU_ALL
Referencing files:
Documentation/RCU/Design/Memory-Ordering/Tree-RCU-Memory-Ordering.rst
This is an old snapshot of the code. I update this from the real
rcu_prepare_for_idle() function in kernel/rcu/tree_plugin.h.
This change was tested by invoking "make htmldocs".
4. RCU_TORTURE_TESTS
Referencing files: kernel/rcu/rcutorture.c
Forward-progress checking conflicts with CPU-stall testing, so we should
complain at "modprobe rcutorture" when both are enabled.

Merge patch series from Nick Desaulniers to update the minimum gcc
version to 5.1.
This is some of the left-overs from the merge window that I didn't want
to deal with yesterday, so it comes in after -rc1 but was sent before.
Gcc-4.9 support has been an annoyance for some time, and with -Werror I
had the choice of applying a fairly big patch from Kees Cook to remove a
fair number of initializer warnings (still leaving some), or this patch
series from Nick that just removes the source of the problem.
The initializer cleanups might still be worth it regardless, but
honestly, I preferred just tackling the problem with gcc-4.9 head-on.
We've been more aggressiuve about no longer having to care about
compilers that were released a long time ago, and I think it's been a
good thing.
I added a couple of patches on top to sort out a few left-overs now that
we no longer support gcc-4.x.
As noted by Arnd, as a result of this minimum compiler version upgrade
we can probably change our use of '--std=gnu89' to '--std=gnu11', and
finally start using local loop declarations etc. But this series does
_not_ yet do that.

commit fad7cd3310db ("nbd: add the check to prevent overflow in
__nbd_ioctl()") raised an issue from the fallback helpers added in
commit f0907827a8a9 ("compiler.h: enable builtin overflow checkers and
add fallback code")
Specifically, the helpers for checking whether the results of a
multiplication overflowed (__unsigned_mul_overflow,
__signed_add_overflow) use the division operator when
!COMPILER_HAS_GENERIC_BUILTIN_OVERFLOW. This is problematic for 64b
operands on 32b hosts.
Also, because the macro is type agnostic, it is very difficult to write
a similarly type generic macro that dispatches to one of:
* div64_s64
* div64_u64
* div_s64
* div_u64
Raising the minimum supported versions allows us to remove all of the
fallback helpers for !COMPILER_HAS_GENERIC_BUILTIN_OVERFLOW, instead
dispatching the compiler builtins.
arm64 has already raised the minimum supported GCC version to 5.1, do
this for all targets now. See the link below for the previous
discussion.

Hi,
Here's another round of schema warnings fixes for the Allwinner platform.
There's a fair share of new schemas in there since the schema tools now warn
when a compatible is not documented in a schema.
We don't have any warning anymore if we use the OPP binding Rob submitted, and
since that means we have all our devices properly validated I don't expect more
fixes now, aside from the usual bunch of regressions.
Let me know what you think,
Maxime

Document the compatible values for the remaining R-Car Gen3e SoCs: R-Car
H3e (R8A779M0), M3e (R8A779M2), M3Ne (R8A779M4), M3Ne-2G (R8A779M5), E3e
(R8A779M6), D3e (R8A779M7), and H3Ne (R8A779M8). These are different
gradings of R-Car Gen3 SoCs.
All R-Car Gen3e on-SoC devices are identical to the devices on the
corresponding R-Car Gen3 SoCs, and thus just use the compatible values
for the latter. The root compatible properties do gain an additional
value, to sort out integration issues if they ever arise.
Document the use of these SoCs on the Salvator-XS, ULCB (with and
without Kingfisher extension), Ebisu, and Draak development boards.
