2012-12-13Merge tag 'multiplatform' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-socLinus Torvalds1-0/+39
Pull ARM SoC multiplatform conversion patches from Olof Johansson: "Here are more patches in the progression towards multiplatform, sparse irq conversions in particular. Tegra has a handful of cleanups and general groundwork, but is not quite there yet on full enablement. Platforms that are enabled through this branch are VT8500 and Zynq. Note that i.MX was converted in one of the earlier cleanup branches as well (before we started a separate topic for multiplatform). And both new platforms for this merge window, sunxi and bcm, were merged with multiplatform support enabled." Pull ARM SoC device tree conversions and enablement from Olof Johansson: "Continued device tree conversion and enablement across a number of platforms; Kirkwood, tegra, i.MX, Exynos, zynq and a couple of other smaller series as well. ux500 has seen continued conversion for platforms. Several platforms have seen pinctrl-via-devicetree conversions for simpler multiplatform. Tegra is adding data for new devices/drivers, and Exynos has a bunch of new bindings and devices added as well. So, pretty much the same progression in the right direction as the last few releases." 2012-11-16ARM: imx6q: let users input debug uart port numberShawn Guo1-13/+13
imx6q gets 5 uart ports in total. Different board design may choose different port as debug uart. For example, imx6q-sabresd uses UART1, imx6q-sabrelite uses UART2 and imx6q-arm2 uses UART4. Rather than bloating DEBUG_LL choice list with all these uart ports, the patch introduces DEBUG_IMX6Q_UART_PORT for users to input uart port number when DEBUG_IMX6Q_UART is selected inside DEBUG_LL choice. Signed-off-by: Shawn Guo <shawn.guo@linaro.org>
2012-11-07ARM: zynq: Allow UART1 to be used as DEBUG_LL console.Nick Bowler1-0/+17
The main UART on the Xilinx ZC702 board is UART1, located at address e0001000. Add a Kconfig option to select this device as the low-level debugging port. This allows the really early boot printouts to reach the USB serial adaptor on this board. For consistency's sake, add a choice entry for UART0 even though it is the the default if UART1 is not selected. 2012-10-15ARM: imx: move debug macros to include/debugShawn Guo1-0/+8
Move imx debug-macro.S over to common debug macro directory. It removes the inclusion to hardware.h by hard-coding the physical address of uart port and copying IMX_IO_P2V from hardware.h. Since we will need a common solution, which might use a fixed virtual address for uart port across platforms, we make a copy of IMX_IO_P2V here as a temporary solution to enable low-level debug for imx multi-platform build. 2012-10-01Merge tag 'multiplatform' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-socLinus Torvalds1-0/+33
Pull ARM soc multiplatform enablement from Olof Johansson: "This is a pretty significant branch. It's the introduction of the first multiplatform support on ARM, and with this (and the later branch) merged, it is now possible to build one kernel that contains support for highbank, vexpress, mvebu, socfpga, and picoxcell. More platforms will be convered over in the next few releases. Two critical last things had to be done for this to be practical and possible: * Today each platform has its own include directory under mach-<mach>/include/mach/*, and traditionally that is where a lot of driver/platform shared definitions have gone, such as platform data structures. They now need to move out to a common location instead, and this branch moves a large number of those out to include/linux/platform_data. * Each platform used to list the device trees to compile for its boards in mach-<mach>/Makefile.boot. Both of the above changes will mean that there are some merge conflicts to come (and some to resolve here). It's a one-time move and once it settles in, we should be good for quite a while. Sorry for the overhead." 2012-09-14ARM: initial multiplatform supportRob Herring1-0/+1
This lets us build a multiplatform kernel for experimental purposes. However, it will not be useful for any real work, because it relies on a number of useful things to be disabled for now: * SMP support must be turned off because of conflicting symbols. Marc Zyngier has proposed a solution by adding a new SOC operations structure to hold indirect function pointers for these, but that work is currently stalled * We turn on SPARSE_IRQ unconditionally, which is not supported on most platforms. Each of them is currently in a different state, but most are being worked on. * A common clock framework is in place since v3.4 but not yet being used. Work on this is on its way. * DEBUG_LL for early debugging is currently disabled. * THUMB2_KERNEL does not work with allyesconfig because the kernel gets too big [Rob Herring]: Rebased to not be dependent on the mass mach header rename. As a result, omap2plus, imx, mxs and ux500 are not converted. Highbank, picoxcell, mvebu, and socfpga are converted. 2012-07-13ARM: vexpress: Config option for early printk consolePawel Moll1-0/+26
Versatile Express platform can be used in different configurations, the console UART used by early printk may be located at different addresses in the address space. This patch makes it possible to select the base address of a PL011 UART to be used as a console output in the kernel configuration. The default behaviour is still the heuristic detecting memory map on Cortex-A core tiles. The zImage decompressor will use the same configuration values or print out nothing if DEBUG_LL is not enabled. Signed-off-by: Pawel Moll <pawel.moll@arm.com>
2012-07-09ARM: 7445/1: mm: update CONTEXTIDR register to contain PID of current processWill Deacon1-0/+9
This patch introduces a new Kconfig option which, when enabled, causes the kernel to write the PID of the current task into the PROCID field of the CONTEXTIDR on context switch. This is useful when analysing hardware trace, since writes to this register can be configured to emit an event into the trace stream. The thread notifier for writing the PID is deliberately kept separate from the ASID-writing code so that we can support newer processors using LPAE, where the ASID is stored in TTBR0. As such, the switch_mm code is updated to perform a read-modify-write sequence to ensure that we don't clobber the PID on CPUs using the classic 2-level page tables. 2012-05-09ARM: davinci: implement DEBUG_LL port choiceUwe Kleine-König1-0/+29
Apart from the necessity to do this change for multi-platform kernels the previous logic depended on the zImage decompressor to write the physical and virtual address to a magic memory location. If the decompressor is unused or not correctly configured for the current machid, the addruart macro was an infinite loop. Moreover debugging the early zImage code was not possible either. 2012-03-24ARM: 7338/1: add support for early console output via semihostingNicolas Pitre1-0/+16
This is a very simple method for code running in an emulator, or under the supervision of a debugger, to use I/O facilities on the controlling host. Tested with OpenOCD, and ARM's Fast Models.
