time_init invokes timer64_init (which is __init annotation) since all of these are invoked at init time, lets maintain consistency by ensuring time_init is marked appropriately as well. This fixes the following warning with CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x3bfc): Section mismatch in reference from the function time_init() to the function .init.text:timer64_init() The function time_init() references the function __init timer64_init(). This is often because time_init lacks a __init annotation or the annotation of timer64_init is wrong. 2015-02-12all arches, signal: move restart_block to struct task_structAndy Lutomirski2-5/+1
If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting the restart block is a very juicy exploit target. This is because the restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack. Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by making the restart_block harder to locate. Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy targets, at least on some architectures. It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less identical on all architectures. The arch_mutex_cpu_relax() function, introduced by 34b133f, is hacky and ugly. It was added a few years ago to address the fact that common cpu_relax() calls include yielding on s390, and thus impact the optimistic spinning functionality of mutexes. Nowadays we use this function well beyond mutexes: rwsem, qrwlock, mcs and lockref. Since the macro that defines the call is in the mutex header, any users must include mutex.h and the naming is misleading as well. This patch (i) renames the call to cpu_relax_lowlatency ("relax, but only if you can do it with very low latency") and (ii) defines it in each arch's asm/processor.h local header, just like for regular cpu_relax functions. On all archs, except s390, cpu_relax_lowlatency is simply cpu_relax, and thus we can take it out of mutex.h. While this can seem redundant, I believe it is a good choice as it allows us to move out arch specific logic from generic locking primitives and enables future(?) archs to transparently define it, similarly to System Z. On some PAE architectures, the entire range of physical memory could reside outside the 32-bit limit. These systems need the ability to specify the initrd location using 64-bit numbers. This patch globally modifies the early_init_dt_setup_initrd_arch() function to use 64-bit numbers instead of the current unsigned long. There has been quite a bit of debate about whether to use u64 or phys_addr_t. It was concluded to stick to u64 to be consistent with rest of the device tree code. As summarized by Geert, "The address to load the initrd is decided by the bootloader/user and set at that point later in time. 2013-07-03c6x: normalize global variables exported by vmlinux.ldsJiang Liu1-2/+2
Normalize global variables exported by vmlinux.lds to conform usage guidelines from include/asm-generic/sections.h. Use _text to mark the start of the kernel image including the head text, and _stext to mark the start of the .text section. This patch also fixes possible bugs due to current address layout that [__init_begin, __init_end] is a sub-range of [_stext, _etext] and pages within range [__init_begin, __init_end] will be freed by free_initmem().
