introduce new setsockopt() command: setsockopt(sock, SOL_SOCKET, SO_ATTACH_BPF, &prog_fd, sizeof(prog_fd)) where prog_fd was received from syscall bpf(BPF_PROG_LOAD, attr, ...) and attr->prog_type == BPF_PROG_TYPE_SOCKET_FILTER setsockopt() calls bpf_prog_get() which increments refcnt of the program, so it doesn't get unloaded while socket is using the program. The same eBPF program can be attached to multiple sockets. 2014-11-11net: introduce SO_INCOMING_CPUEric Dumazet1-0/+2
Alternative to RPS/RFS is to use hardware support for multiple queues. Then split a set of million of sockets into worker threads, each one using epoll() to manage events on its own socket pool. Ideally, we want one thread per RX/TX queue/cpu, but we have no way to know after accept() or connect() on which queue/cpu a socket is managed. We normally use one cpu per RX queue (IRQ smp_affinity being properly set), so remembering on socket structure which cpu delivered last packet is enough to solve the problem. After accept(), connect(), or even file descriptor passing around processes, applications can use : int cpu; socklen_t len = sizeof(cpu); getsockopt(fd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_INCOMING_CPU, &cpu, &len); And use this information to put the socket into the right silo for optimal performance, as all networking stack should run on the appropriate cpu, without need to send IPI (RPS/RFS). write{b,w,l}_relaxed are implemented by some architectures in order to permit memory-mapped I/O accesses with weaker barrier semantics than the non-relaxed variants. This patch adds dummy macros for the write accessors to Cris, in the same vein as the dummy definitions for the relaxed read accessors. The nohz full code needs irq work to trigger its own interrupt so that the subsystem can work even when the tick is stopped. The arch_mutex_cpu_relax() function, introduced by 34b133f, is hacky and ugly. It was added a few years ago to address the fact that common cpu_relax() calls include yielding on s390, and thus impact the optimistic spinning functionality of mutexes. Nowadays we use this function well beyond mutexes: rwsem, qrwlock, mcs and lockref. Since the macro that defines the call is in the mutex header, any users must include mutex.h and the naming is misleading as well. This patch (i) renames the call to cpu_relax_lowlatency ("relax, but only if you can do it with very low latency") and (ii) defines it in each arch's asm/processor.h local header, just like for regular cpu_relax functions. On all archs, except s390, cpu_relax_lowlatency is simply cpu_relax, and thus we can take it out of mutex.h. While this can seem redundant, I believe it is a good choice as it allows us to move out arch specific logic from generic locking primitives and enables future(?) archs to transparently define it, similarly to System Z. 2014-04-07Kconfig: rename HAS_IOPORT to HAS_IOPORT_MAPUwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
If the renamed symbol is defined lib/iomap.c implements ioport_map and ioport_unmap and currently (nearly) all platforms define the port accessor functions outb/inb and friend unconditionally. So HAS_IOPORT_MAP is the better name for this. Consequently NO_IOPORT is renamed to NO_IOPORT_MAP. The motivation for this change is to reintroduce a symbol HAS_IOPORT that signals if outb/int et al are available. I will address that at least one merge window later though to keep surprises to a minimum and catch new introductions of (HAS|NO)_IOPORT. 2014-01-18net: introduce SO_BPF_EXTENSIONSMichal Sekletar1-0/+2
For user space packet capturing libraries such as libpcap, there's currently only one way to check which BPF extensions are supported by the kernel, that is, commit aa1113d9f85d ("net: filter: return -EINVAL if BPF_S_ANC* operation is not supported"). For querying all extensions at once this might be rather inconvenient. Therefore, this patch introduces a new option which can be used as an argument for getsockopt(), and allows one to obtain information about which BPF extensions are supported by the current kernel. As David Miller suggests, we do not need to define any bits right now and status quo can just return 0 in order to state that this versions supports SKF_AD_PROTOCOL up to SKF_AD_PAY_OFFSET. Later additions to BPF extensions need to add their bits to the bpf_tell_extensions() function, as documented in the comment. This patch proposes to remove the IRQF_DISABLED flag from CRIS architecture code. It's a NOOP since 2.6.35 and it will be removed one day.
