The only user of thread_saved_pc() in non-arch-specific code was removed in commit 8243d5597793 ("sched/core: Remove pointless printout in sched_show_task()"). Remove the implementations as well. Some architectures use thread_saved_pc() in their arch-specific code. Leave their thread_saved_pc() intact. 2016-11-16locking/core: Introduce cpu_relax_yield()Christian Borntraeger1-0/+1
For spinning loops people do often use barrier() or cpu_relax(). For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency. For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment. On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the hypervisor to give up the timeslice. In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies. In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant "cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield that can be called in places where yielding is more important than latency. By default this is the same as cpu_relax on all architectures. The arch_mutex_cpu_relax() function, introduced by 34b133f, is hacky and ugly. It was added a few years ago to address the fact that common cpu_relax() calls include yielding on s390, and thus impact the optimistic spinning functionality of mutexes. Nowadays we use this function well beyond mutexes: rwsem, qrwlock, mcs and lockref. Since the macro that defines the call is in the mutex header, any users must include mutex.h and the naming is misleading as well. This patch (i) renames the call to cpu_relax_lowlatency ("relax, but only if you can do it with very low latency") and (ii) defines it in each arch's asm/processor.h local header, just like for regular cpu_relax functions. On all archs, except s390, cpu_relax_lowlatency is simply cpu_relax, and thus we can take it out of mutex.h. While this can seem redundant, I believe it is a good choice as it allows us to move out arch specific logic from generic locking primitives and enables future(?) archs to transparently define it, similarly to System Z. 2013-11-13exec/ptrace: fix get_dumpable() incorrect testsKees Cook1-1/+1
The get_dumpable() return value is not boolean. Most users of the function actually want to be testing for non-SUID_DUMP_USER(1) rather than SUID_DUMP_DISABLE(0). The SUID_DUMP_ROOT(2) is also considered a protected state. Almost all places did this correctly, excepting the two places fixed in this patch. Wrong logic: if (dumpable == SUID_DUMP_DISABLE) { /* be protective */ } or if (dumpable == 0) { /* be protective */ } or if (!dumpable) { /* be protective */ } Correct logic: if (dumpable != SUID_DUMP_USER) { /* be protective */ } or if (dumpable != 1) { /* be protective */ } Without this patch, if the system had set the sysctl fs/suid_dumpable=2, a user was able to ptrace attach to processes that had dropped privileges to that user. (This may have been partially mitigated if Yama was enabled.) The macros have been moved into the file that declares get/set_dumpable(), which means things like the ia64 code can see them too. Having four variables for the same thing: idle_halt, idle_nomwait, force_mwait and boot_option_idle_overrides is rather confusing and unnecessary complex. if idle= boot param is passed, only set up one variable: boot_option_idle_overrides Introduces following functional changes/fixes: - intel_idle driver does not register if any idle=xy boot param is passed. - processor_idle.c will also not register a cpuidle driver and get active if idle=halt is passed. Before a cpuidle driver with one (C1, halt) state got registered Now the default_idle function will be used which finally uses the same idle call to enter sleep state (safe_halt()), but without registering a whole cpuidle driver. That means idle= param will always avoid cpuidle drivers to register with one exception (same behavior as before): idle=nomwait may still register acpi_idle cpuidle driver, but C1 will not use mwait, but hlt. This can be a workaround for IO based deeper sleep states where C1 mwait causes problems. This patch updates percpu related symbols in ia64 such that percpu symbols are unique and don't clash with local symbols. This serves two purposes of decreasing the possibility of global percpu symbol collision and allowing dropping per_cpu__ prefix from percpu symbols. * arch/ia64/kernel/setup.c: s/cpu_info/ia64_cpu_info/ Partly based on Rusty Russell's "alloc_percpu: rename percpu vars which cause name clashes" patch. 2009-06-17[IA64] Convert ia64 to use int-ll64.hMatthew Wilcox1-28/+28
It is generally agreed that it would be beneficial for u64 to be an unsigned long long on all architectures. ia64 (in common with several other 64-bit architectures) currently uses unsigned long. Migrating piecemeal is too painful; this giant patch fixes all compilation warnings and errors that come as a result of switching to use int-ll64.h. Note that userspace will still see __u64 defined as unsigned long. This is important as it affects C++ name mangling. 2008-08-01[IA64] Move include/asm-ia64 to arch/ia64/include/asmTony Luck1-0/+771
After moving the the include files there were a few clean-ups: 1) Some files used #include <asm-ia64/xyz.h>, changed to <asm/xyz.h> 2) Some comments alerted maintainers to look at various header files to make matching updates if certain code were to be changed. Updated these comments to use the new include paths. 3) Some header files mentioned their own names in initial comments. Just deleted these self references.
