2006-06-27[PATCH] m68knommu: remove useless compiler argsPhilipe De Muyter1-10/+11
Here is a small patch that made my kernel .text segment shrink by 8k IIRC on my 5272-based board, by removing `-Wa,-S' from CFLAGS. The `-Wa,-S' option prevents `gas' from using short forms of jsr. Without it, `gas' replaces `jsr xxx.l' (6 bytes) by `jsr xxx@pc' (4 bytes) when possible. On 5272, both forms are equally fast. The `-Wa,-m5307' option is useless, because gcc already gives it to `gas' from the `-m5307' option. Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-06-27[PATCH] 64bit resource: change pci core and arch code to use resource_size_tGreg Kroah-Hartman1-1/+2

2006-06-26[PATCH] m68knommu: create configurable RAM setupGreg Ungerer1-34/+44
Reworked the way RAM regions are defined. Instead of coding all the variations for each board type we now just configure RAM base and size in the usual Kconfig setup. This much simplifies the code, and makes it a lot more flexible when setting up new boards or board varients. Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-06-23[PATCH] fix incorrect SA_ONSTACK behaviour for 64-bit processesLaurent MEYER1-1/+1
- When setting a sighandler using sigaction() call, if the flag SA_ONSTACK is set and no alternate stack is provided via sigaltstack(), the kernel still try to install the alternate stack. This behavior is the opposite of the one which is documented in Single Unix Specifications V3. - Also when setting an alternate stack using sigaltstack() with the flag SS_DISABLE, the kernel try to install the alternate stack on signal delivery. These two use cases makes the process crash at signal delivery. 2006-04-11[PATCH] No arch-specific strpbrk implementationsKyle McMartin1-1/+0
While cleaning up parisc_ksyms.c earlier, I noticed that strpbrk wasn't being exported from lib/string.c. Investigating further, I noticed a changeset that removed its export and added it to _ksyms.c on a few more architectures. The justification was that "other arches do it." I think this is wrong, since no architecture currently defines __HAVE_ARCH_STRPBRK, there's no reason for any of them to be exporting it themselves. Therefore, consolidate the export to lib/string.c. 2006-03-24[PATCH] kill include/linux/platform.h, default_idle() cleanupAdrian Bunk1-1/+1
include/linux/platform.h contained nothing that was actually used except the default_idle() prototype, and is therefore removed by this patch. This patch does the following with the platform specific default_idle() functions on different architectures: - remove the unused function: - parisc - sparc64 - make the needlessly global function static: - arm - h8300 - m68k - m68knommu - s390 - v850 - x86_64 - add a prototype in asm/system.h: - cris - i386 - ia64 Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Acked-by: Patrick Mochel <mochel@digitalimplant.org> Acked-by: Kyle McMartin <kyle@parisc-linux.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-03-22[PATCH] remove set_page_count() outside mm/Nick Piggin1-2/+2
set_page_count usage outside mm/ is limited to setting the refcount to 1. Remove set_page_count from outside mm/, and replace those users with init_page_count() and set_page_refcounted(). This allows more debug checking, and tighter control on how code is allowed to play around with page->_count. 2006-03-22[PATCH] multiple exports of strpbrkAndrew Morton1-0/+1
Sam's tree includes a new check, which found that we're exporting strpbrk() multiple times. It seems that the convention is that this is exported from the arch files, so reove the lib/string.c export. 2006-03-20[PATCH] add EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL_FUTURE()Greg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+10
This patch adds the ability to mark symbols that will be changed in the future, so that kernel modules that don't include MODULE_LICENSE("GPL") and use the symbols, will be flagged and printed out to the system log. Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2006-02-14[PATCH] hrtimer: round up relative start time on low-res archesIngo Molnar1-0/+4
CONFIG_TIME_LOW_RES is a temporary way for architectures to signal that they simply return xtime in do_gettimeoffset(). In this corner-case we want to round up by resolution when starting a relative timer, to avoid short timeouts. This will go away with the GTOD framework. 2006-01-10[PATCH] m68knommu: fix a5 reg corruption in signal handlersGreg Ungerer1-0/+8
This is a patch adapted from a posting by Andrea Tarani which was pointed out to me by Bernardo Innocenti. Thanks to both of them for their help and patience. The original posting is here: http://mailman.uclinux.org/pipermail/uclinux-dev/2005-July/033543.html The problem first manifest itself as busybox ping terminating with an "Illegal instruction". I reduced this to a test case and found that variable size arrays allocated on the stack could lead to stacks not aligned on 32 bit boundaries. For the Coldfire this proved fatal. Having been pointed out this patch by Bernardo, I applied it and it fixed the first test case. I then went back to busybox's ping. This still failed with "Illegal instruction", but in a different way. Before it depended on the size allocated for the ping buffer, now it happened every time. I also found it depended on optimisation level (gcc-3.4.0) -Os was okay but not -O2. After a lot of looking, it turned out that register a5 was being corrupted by the signal handler (after applying the patch). I re-worked the patch a bit to save/restore a5 and now all seems well.
