2021-03-23xsysace: Remove SYSACE driverMichal Simek1-1/+0

2021-03-10tty: cyclades, remove this orphanJiri Slaby1-1/+0
The Cyclades driver was orphaned by commit d459883e6c54 (MAINTAINERS: remove two dead e-mail) 13 years ago. Noone stepped up to take care of them and to fix all the issues the driver has. On the top of that, there is no way to obtain the firmware for Z cards from the vendor as cyclades.com ceased to exist. So it's time to drop the driver with all its traces. The AKEBONO config has various selects under it, including some with user-selectable dependencies, which means those dependencies can be disabled. This leads to warnings from Kconfig. That is what a defconfig is for. So drop those selects and instead move those symbols into the defconfig. This fixes all the kconfig warnings, and the result of make 44x/akebono_defconfig is the same before and after the patch. 2021-01-29arch: powerpc: Stop building and using oprofileViresh Kumar15-15/+0
The "oprofile" user-space tools don't use the kernel OPROFILE support any more, and haven't in a long time. User-space has been converted to the perf interfaces. This commits stops building oprofile for powerpc and removes any reference to it from directories in arch/powerpc/ apart from arch/powerpc/oprofile, which will be removed in the next commit (this is broken into two commits as the size of the commit became very big, ~5k lines). Note that the member "oprofile_cpu_type" in "struct cpu_spec" isn't removed as it was also used by other parts of the code. The driver has its own HID descriptor parsing code, that had and still has several issues discovered by syzbot and other tools. Ideally we should move the driver over to the HID subsystem, so that it uses proven parsing code. However the devices in question are EOL, and GTCO is not willing to extend resources for that, so let's simply remove the driver. Note that our HID support has greatly improved over the last 10 years, we may also consider reverting 6f8d9e26e7de ("hid-core.c: Adds all GTCO CalComp Digitizers and InterWrite School Products to blacklist") and see if GTCO devices actually work with normal HID drivers. 2020-09-14vgacon: remove software scrollback supportLinus Torvalds2-2/+0
Yunhai Zhang recently fixed a VGA software scrollback bug in commit ebfdfeeae8c0 ("vgacon: Fix for missing check in scrollback handling"), but that then made people look more closely at some of this code, and there were more problems on the vgacon side, but also the fbcon software scrollback. We don't really have anybody who maintains this code - probably because nobody actually _uses_ it any more. Sure, people still use both VGA and the framebuffer consoles, but they are no longer the main user interfaces to the kernel, and haven't been for decades, so these kinds of extra features end up bitrotting and not really being used. So rather than try to maintain a likely unused set of code, I'll just aggressively remove it, and see if anybody even notices. Maybe there are people who haven't jumped on the whole GUI badnwagon yet, and think it's just a fad. And maybe those people use the scrollback code. If that turns out to be the case, we can resurrect this again, once we've found the sucker^Wmaintainer for it who actually uses it. The latest Xilinx design tools called ISE and EDK has been released in October 2013. New tool doesn't support any PPC405/PPC440 new designs. These platforms are no longer supported and tested. PowerPC 405/440 port is orphan from 2013 by commit cdeb89943bfc ("MAINTAINERS: Fix incorrect status tag") and commit 19624236cce1 ("MAINTAINERS: Update Grant's email address and maintainership") that's why it is time to remove the support fot these platforms. While these quirks are for fairly rare devices (very old CD burners, and a glucometer), the additional detection of these models is a very minimal amount of code. Enable more hardening options. Note BUG_ON_DATA_CORRUPTION selects DEBUG_LIST and is essentially just a synonym for it. DEBUG_SG, DEBUG_NOTIFIERS, DEBUG_LIST, DEBUG_CREDENTIALS and SCHED_STACK_END_CHECK should all be low overhead and just add a few extra checks. SLAB_FREELIST_RANDOM, and SLUB_DEBUG_ON will add some overhead to the SLAB allocator, but nothing that should be meaningful for skiroot. Unselecting SLAB_MERGE_DEFAULT causes the SLAB to use more memory, but the skiroot kernel shouldn't be memory constrained on any of our systems, all it does is run a small bootloader. Disabling merging has some security/robustness benefit as it means a user-after-free or overflow will be limited to the objects in that slab, rather than potentially affecting objects from unrelated slabs that have been merged. Note also that slab merging is disabled anyway by enabling SLUB_DEBUG_ON, because of the SLAB_NEVER_MERGE mask. 2020-01-31powerpc/configs/skiroot: Disable xmon default & enable reboot on panicMichael Ellerman1-1/+2
If the skiroot kernel crashes we don't want it sitting at an xmon prompt forever. Instead it's more helpful to reboot and bring the boot loader back up, and if the crash was transient we can then boot successfully. Similarly if we panic we should reboot, with a short timeout in case someone is watching the console. This turns on HARDENED_USERCOPY with HARDENED_USERCOPY_PAGESPAN, and FORTIFY_SOURCE. It also enables SECURITY_LOCKDOWN_LSM with _EARLY and LOCK_DOWN_KERNEL_FORCE_INTEGRITY options enabled. This still allows xmon to be used in read-only mode. MODULE_SIG is selected by lockdown, so it is still enabled. Because we're setting LOCK_DOWN_KERNELFORCE_INTEGRITY=y we also need to enable KEXEC_FILE=y so that kexec continues to work. Commit bdd08fff4915 ("HID: logitech: Add depends on LEDS_CLASS to Logitech Kconfig entry") made HID_LOGITECH depend on LEDS_CLASS which we do not enable, meaning we are not actually enabling those drivers any more. The Kconfig help text suggests USB HID compliant Logictech devices will continue to work without HID_LOGITECH, so just drop it.
