This patch fixes a numbers of issues regarding to that both 8xx and 82xx began to use ppc_sys model: - Platform is now identified by default deviceless SOC, if no BOARD_CHIP_NAME is specified in the bard-specific header. Convert core 8xx drivers to use in_xxxbe/in_xxx macros instead of direct memory references. Other than making IO accesses explicit (which is a plus for readability), a common set of macros provides a unified place for the volatile flag to constraint compiler code reordering. There are several unlucky places at the moment which lack the volatile flag. 2005-10-26powerpc: Merge i8259.c into arch/powerpc/sysdevPaul Mackerras2-219/+8
This changes the parameters for i8259_init so that it takes two parameters: a physical address for generating an interrupt acknowledge cycle, and an interrupt number offset. i8259_init now sets the irq_desc[] for its interrupts; all the callers were doing this, and that code is gone now. This fixes up a variety of minor problems in compiling with ARCH=ppc arising from using the merged versions of various header files. A lot of the changes are just adding #include <asm/machdep.h> to files that use ppc_md or smp_ops_t. Now instead of having a ppc_md function, we just have a variable which says whether to do the i8259 irq canonicalization or not, and set that variable on the platforms that need that. It looks to me that radstone_ppc7d was trying to use irq canonicalization for something else in a broken kind of way - it will need to be fixed properly. This creates the directory structure under arch/powerpc and a bunch of Kconfig files. It does a first-cut merge of arch/powerpc/mm, arch/powerpc/lib and arch/powerpc/platforms/powermac. This is enough to build a 32-bit powermac kernel with ARCH=powerpc. For now we are getting some unmerged files from arch/ppc/kernel and arch/ppc/syslib, or arch/ppc64/kernel. This makes some minor changes to files in those directories and files outside arch/powerpc. The boot directory is still not merged. That's going to be interesting. 2005-09-22[PATCH] ppc64: SMU driver update & i2c supportBenjamin Herrenschmidt1-2/+4
The SMU is the "system controller" chip used by Apple recent G5 machines including the iMac G5. It drives things like fans, i2c busses, real time clock, etc... The current kernel contains a very crude driver that doesn't do much more than reading the real time clock synchronously. This is a completely rewritten driver that provides interrupt based command queuing, a userland interface, and an i2c/smbus driver for accessing the devices hanging off the SMU i2c busses like temperature sensors. This driver is a basic block for upcoming work on thermal control for those machines, among others. The following patch changes the usages of PVR_440* into strcmp's with the cpu_name field, and removes the defines altogether. The Ebony portion was briefly tested long ago. One benefit of moving from PVR-tests to string tests in general is that not all CPUs can be on and be able to do this type of comparison. 2005-09-05[PATCH] ppc32: Added support for the Book-E style Watchdog TimerKumar Gala1-25/+0
PowerPC 40x and Book-E processors support a watchdog timer at the processor core level. The timer has implementation dependent timeout frequencies that can be configured by software. One the first Watchdog timeout we get a critical exception. It is left to board specific code to determine what should happen at this point. If nothing is done and another timeout period expires the processor may attempt to reset the machine. Command line parameters: wdt=0 : disable watchdog (default) wdt=1 : enable watchdog wdt_period=N : N sets the value of the Watchdog Timer Period. The Watchdog Timer Period meaning is implementation specific. Check User Manual for the processor for more details. This patch is based off of work done by Takeharu Kato.
