2018-04-19compat: Move compat_timespec/ timeval to compat_time.hDeepa Dinamani1-2/+2
All the current architecture specific defines for these are the same. Refactor these common defines to a common header file. The new common linux/compat_time.h is also useful as it will eventually be used to hold all the defines that are needed for compat time types that support non y2038 safe types. New architectures need not have to define these new types as they will only use new y2038 safe syscalls. This file can be deleted after y2038 when we stop supporting non y2038 safe syscalls. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Now that explicitly executed loaders are loaded in the mmap region, we have more freedom to decide where we position PIE binaries in the address space to avoid possible collisions with mmap or stack regions. For 64-bit, align to 4GB to allow runtimes to use the entire 32-bit address space for 32-bit pointers. On 32-bit use 4MB, which is the traditional x86 minimum load location, likely to avoid historically requiring a 4MB page table entry when only a portion of the first 4MB would be used (since the NULL address is avoided). For s390 the position could be 0x10000, but that is needlessly close to the NULL address. 2017-06-13s390/kvm: avoid global config of vm.alloc_pgste=1Martin Schwidefsky1-0/+32
The system control vm.alloc_pgste is used to control the size of the page tables, either 2K or 4K. The idea is that a KVM host sets the vm.alloc_pgste control to 1 which causes *all* new processes to run with 4K page tables. For a non-kvm system the control should stay off to save on memory used for page tables. Trouble is that distributions choose to set the control globally to be able to run KVM guests. This wastes memory on non-KVM systems. Introduce the PT_S390_PGSTE ELF segment type to "mark" the qemu executable with it. All executables with this (empty) segment in its ELF phdr array will be started with 4K page tables. Any executable without PT_S390_PGSTE will run with the default 2K page tables. 2017-03-22s390: add a system call for guarded storageMartin Schwidefsky1-0/+1
This adds a new system call to enable the use of guarded storage for user space processes. The system call takes two arguments, a command and pointer to a guarded storage control block: s390_guarded_storage(int command, struct gs_cb *gs_cb); The second argument is relevant only for the GS_SET_BC_CB command. The commands in detail: 0 - GS_ENABLE Enable the guarded storage facility for the current task. The initial content of the guarded storage control block will be all zeros. After the enablement the user space code can use load-guarded-storage-controls instruction (LGSC) to load an arbitrary control block. While a task is enabled the kernel will save and restore the current content of the guarded storage registers on context switch. 1 - GS_DISABLE Disables the use of the guarded storage facility for the current task. The kernel will cease to save and restore the content of the guarded storage registers, the task specific content of these registers is lost. 2 - GS_SET_BC_CB Set a broadcast guarded storage control block. This is called per thread and stores a specific guarded storage control block in the task struct of the current task. This control block will be used for the broadcast event GS_BROADCAST. 3 - GS_CLEAR_BC_CB Clears the broadcast guarded storage control block. The guarded- storage control block is removed from the task struct that was established by GS_SET_BC_CB. 4 - GS_BROADCAST Sends a broadcast to all thread siblings of the current task. Every sibling that has established a broadcast guarded storage control block will load this control block and will be enabled for guarded storage. The broadcast guarded storage control block is used up, a second broadcast without a refresh of the stored control block with GS_SET_BC_CB will not have any effect. AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH should be defined with the maximum number of NEW_AUX_ENT entries that ARCH_DLINFO can contain, but it wasn't defined for s390 at all even though ARCH_DLINFO can contain one NEW_AUX_ENT when VDSO is enabled. This shouldn't be a problem as AT_VECTOR_SIZE_BASE includes space for AT_BASE_PLATFORM which s390 doesn't use, but lets define it now and add the comment above ARCH_DLINFO as found in several other architectures to remind future modifiers of ARCH_DLINFO to keep AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH up to date. This patch exposes the SIE capability (aka virtualization support) via /proc/cpuinfo -> "features" as "sie". As we don't want to expose this hwcap via elf, let's add a second, "internal"/non-elf capability list. The content is simply concatenated to the existing features when printing /proc/cpuinfo. We also add the defines to elf.h to keep the hwcap stuff at a common place. commit 1f6b83e5e4d3 ("s390: avoid z13 cache aliasing") checks for the machine type to optimize address space randomization and zero page allocation to avoid cache aliases. This check might fail under a hypervisor with migration support. z/VMs "Single System Image and Live Guest Relocation" facility will "fake" the machine type of the oldest system in the group. For example in a group of zEC12 and Z13 the guest appears to run on a zEC12 (architecture fencing within the relocation domain) Remove the machine type detection and always use cache aliasing rules that are known to work for all machines. These are the z13 aliasing rules. 2015-04-14mm: split ET_DYN ASLR from mmap ASLRKees Cook1-3/+2
This fixes the "offset2lib" weakness in ASLR for arm, arm64, mips, powerpc, and x86. The problem is that if there is a leak of ASLR from the executable (ET_DYN), it means a leak of shared library offset as well (mmap), and vice versa. 2015-03-25s390: remove 31 bit supportHeiko Carstens1-4/+0
Remove the 31 bit support in order to reduce maintenance cost and effectively remove dead code. Since a couple of years there is no distribution left that comes with a 31 bit kernel. The 31 bit kernel also has been broken since more than a year before anybody noticed. In addition I added a removal warning to the kernel shown at ipl for 5 minutes: a960062e5826 ("s390: add 31 bit warning message") which let everybody know about the plan to remove 31 bit code. We didn't get any response. Given that the last 31 bit only machine was introduced in 1999 let's remove the code. Anybody with 31 bit user space code can still use the compat mode. 2014-10-09s390/kdump: add support for vector extensionMichael Holzheu1-1/+1
With this patch for kdump the s390 vector registers are stored into the prepared save areas in the old kernel and into the REGSET_VX_LOW and REGSET_VX_HIGH ELF notes for /proc/vmcore in the new kernel. The NT_S390_VXRS_LOW note contains the lower halves of the first 16 vector registers 0-15. The higher halves are stored in the floating point register ELF note. The NT_S390_VXRS_HIGH contains the full vector registers 16-31. The kernel provides a save area for storing vector register in case of machine checks. A pointer to this save are is stored in the CPU lowcore at offset 0x11b0. This save area is also used to save the registers for kdump. In case of a dumped crashed kdump those areas are used to extract the registers of the production system. The vector registers for remote CPUs are stored using the "store additional status at address" SIGP. For the dump CPU the vector registers are stored with the VSTM instruction. With this patch also zfcpdump stores the vector registers. The vector extension introduces 32 128-bit vector registers and a set of instruction to operate on the vector registers. The kernel can control the use of vector registers for the problem state program with a bit in control register 0. Once enabled for a process the kernel needs to retain the content of the vector registers on context switch. The signal frame is extended to include the vector registers. The noexec support on s390 does not rely on a bit in the page table entry but utilizes the secondary space mode to distinguish between memory accesses for instructions vs. data. The noexec code relies on the assumption that the cpu will always use the secondary space page table for data accesses while it is running in the secondary space mode. Up to the z9-109 class machines this has been the case. Unfortunately this is not true anymore with z10 and later machines. The load-relative-long instructions lrl, lgrl and lgfrl access the memory operand using the same addressing-space mode that has been used to fetch the instruction. This breaks the noexec mode for all user space binaries compiled with march=z10 or later. The only option is to remove the current noexec support.
