2008-10-04x86 setup: remove IMAGE_OFFSETPaul Bolle1-3/+1
After commit 968de4f ("i386: Relocatable kernel support") IMAGE_OFFSET wasn't actually used anymore in the (current) X86 build system. Now remove its last traces. Signed-off-by: Paul Bolle <pebolle@tiscali.nl> Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com>
2008-09-05x86: when building image.iso, use isohybrid if it existsH. Peter Anvin1-0/+1
When building image.iso (make isoimage), use the isohybrid tool if it exists. isohybrid is a script included with Syslinux 3.72 and higher, which creates an image that can be booted either as a hard disk (including removable, e.g. USB disk) or as a CD-ROM. If isohybrid doesn't exist, then this has no effect. Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com>
2008-04-17x86: move suspend wakeup code to CPavel Machek1-1/+1
Move wakeup code to .c, so that video mode setting code can be shared between boot and wakeup. Remove nasty assembly code in 64-bit case by re-using trampoline code. Stack setup was fixed to clear high 16bits of %esp, maybe that fixes some machines. .c code sharing and morse code was done H. Peter Anvin, Sam Ravnborg reviewed kbuild related stuff, and it seems okay to him. Rafael did some cleanups. [rjw: * Made the patch stop breaking compilation on x86-32 * Added arch/x86/kernel/acpi/sleep.h * Got rid of compiler warnings in arch/x86/kernel/acpi/sleep.c * Fixed 32-bit compilation on x86-64 systems * Added include/asm-x86/trampoline.h and fixed the non-SMP compilation on 64-bit x86 * Removed arch/x86/kernel/acpi/sleep_32.c which was not used * Fixed some breakage caused by the integration of smpboot.c done under us in the meantime] Signed-off-by: Pavel Machek <pavel@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: H. 2008-02-04x86 setup: print missing CPU features in cleartextH. Peter Anvin1-4/+12
Instead of obscure numbers, print the list of missing CPU features in cleartext. To conserve space, use a host program (mkcpustr.c) to produce a compact list of mandatory features only. 2008-02-04x86: define OBJCOPYFLAGS explicitly for each target.Ian Campbell1-1/+1
Do this rather than defining a global version and overriding it in almost all cases in order to make subsequent patches simpler. Signed-off-by: Ian Campbell <ijc@hellion.org.uk> Acked-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-01-30x86: compile apm and voyager module only when selected in KconfigAndi Kleen1-2/+4
Previously the complete files were #ifdef'ed, but now handle that in the Makefile. May save a minor bit of compilation time. 2008-01-30x86: biarch support for 32 bit builds beautifiedSam Ravnborg1-3/+1
There were no reason to mess around with CC, AS and LD. Fixing this up avoided duplicated option for ld. A small fixlet were needed in boot/Makefile which assumed that CC were modified. 2007-11-12x86: do not use $(ARCH) when not neededSam Ravnborg1-3/+3
For x86 ARCH may say i386 or x86_64 and soon x86. Rely on CONFIG_X64_32 to select between 32/64 or just hardcode the value as appropriate. Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Cc: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@redhat.com> Cc: "H. Peter Anvin" <hpa@zytor.com>
2007-10-16[x86] remove uses of magic macros for boot_params accessH. Peter Anvin1-0/+1
Instead of using magic macros for boot_params access, simply use the boot_params structure. Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com>
2007-10-16x86: fix boot error introduced by kbuildSam Ravnborg1-3/+3
x86 uses target specific assignment of EXTRA_AFLAGS, EXTRA_CFLAGS - this caused troubles with introducing asflags-y, ccflags-y. Fixed the target specific assignments in arch/x86/boot/Makefile and auditted the rest of the kernel for similar usage. Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org>
2007-10-15kbuild: enable 'make AFLAGS=...' to add additional options to ASSam Ravnborg1-1/+1
The variable AFLAGS is a wellknown variable and the usage by kbuild may result in unexpected behaviour. On top of that several people over time has asked for a way to pass in additional flags to gcc. This patch replace use of AFLAGS with KBUILD_AFLAGS all over the tree. Patch was tested on following architectures: alpha, arm, i386, x86_64, mips, sparc, sparc64, ia64, m68k, s390 Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org>
2007-10-14kbuild: enable 'make CFLAGS=...' to add additional options to CCSam Ravnborg1-2/+2
The variable CFLAGS is a wellknown variable and the usage by kbuild may result in unexpected behaviour. On top of that several people over time has asked for a way to pass in additional flags to gcc. This patch replace use of CFLAGS with KBUILD_CFLAGS all over the tree and enabling one to use: make CFLAGS=... to specify additional gcc commandline options. One usecase is when trying to find gcc bugs but other use cases has been requested too. Patch was tested on following architectures: alpha, arm, i386, x86_64, mips, sparc, sparc64, ia64, m68k Test was simple to do a defconfig build, apply the patch and check that nothing got rebuild.
