2009-10-01x86: Don't generate cmpxchg8b_emu if CONFIG_X86_CMPXCHG64=yEric Dumazet1-0/+2
Conditionaly compile cmpxchg8b_emu.o and EXPORT_SYMBOL(cmpxchg8b_emu). This reduces the kernel size a bit. 2009-09-30x86: Provide an alternative() based cmpxchg64()Arjan van de Ven1-0/+8
cmpxchg64() today generates, to quote Linus, "barf bag" code. cmpxchg64() is about to get used in the scheduler to fix a bug there, but it's a prerequisite that cmpxchg64() first be made non-sucking. This patch turns cmpxchg64() into an efficient implementation that uses the alternative() mechanism to just use the raw instruction on all modern systems. Note: the fallback is NOT smp safe, just like the current fallback is not SMP safe. (Interested parties with i486 based SMP systems are welcome to submit fix patches for that.) 2008-10-20ftrace: rename FTRACE to FUNCTION_TRACERSteven Rostedt1-1/+1
Due to confusion between the ftrace infrastructure and the gcc profiling tracer "ftrace", this patch renames the config options from FTRACE to FUNCTION_TRACER. The other two names that are offspring from FTRACE DYNAMIC_FTRACE and FTRACE_MCOUNT_RECORD will stay the same. This patch was generated mostly by script, and partially by hand. 2008-06-23ftrace: store mcount address in rec->ipAbhishek Sagar1-1/+1
Record the address of the mcount call-site. Currently all archs except sparc64 record the address of the instruction following the mcount call-site. Some general cleanups are entailed. Storing mcount addresses in rec->ip enables looking them up in the kprobe hash table later on to check if they're kprobe'd. 2008-05-23ftrace: fix mcount export bugIngo Molnar1-1/+8
David S. Miller noticed the following bug: the -pg instrumentation function callback is named differently on each platform. On x86 it is mcount, on sparc it is _mcount. So the export does not make sense in kernel/trace/ftrace.c - move it to x86. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>
2008-04-17Generic semaphore implementationMatthew Wilcox1-5/+0
Semaphores are no longer performance-critical, so a generic C implementation is better for maintainability, debuggability and extensibility. Thanks to Peter Zijlstra for fixing the lockdep warning. Thanks to Harvey Harrison for pointing out that the unlikely() was unnecessary. Signed-off-by: Matthew Wilcox <willy@linux.intel.com> Acked-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

2007-11-26x86: export the symbol empty_zero_page on the 32-bit x86 architectureTheodore Ts'o1-0/+2
The latest KVM driver wants to use the empty_zero_page symbol, and it's not exported in 32-bit x86 (although it is exported by x86_64, s390, and uml architectures).
