2019-07-11block: Kill gfp_t argument of blkdev_report_zones()Damien Le Moal1-2/+1
Only GFP_KERNEL and GFP_NOIO are used with blkdev_report_zones(). In preparation of using vmalloc() for large report buffer and zone array allocations used by this function, remove its "gfp_t gfp_mask" argument and rely on the caller context to use memalloc_noio_save/restore() where necessary (block layer zone revalidation and dm-zoned I/O error path). 2019-06-13null_blk: remove duplicate check for report zoneChaitanya Kulkarni1-4/+0
This patch removes the check in the null_blk_zoned for report zone command, where it checks for the dev-,>zoned before executing the report zone. The null_zone_report() function is a block_device operation callback which is initialized in the null_blk_main.c and gets called as a part of blkdev for report zone IOCTL (BLKREPORTZONE). blkdev_ioctl() blkdev_report_zones_ioctl() blkdev_report_zones() blk_report_zones() disk->fops->report_zones() nullb_zone_report(); The null_zone_report() will never get executed on the non-zoned block device, in the non zoned block device blk_queue_is_zoned() will always be false which is first check the blkdev_report_zones_ioctl() before actual low level driver report zone callback is executed. Here is the detailed scenario:- 1. modprobe null_blk null_init null_alloc_dev dev->zoned = 0 null_add_dev dev->zoned == 0 so we don't set the q->limits.zoned = BLK_ZONED_HR 2. blkzone report /dev/nullb0 blkdev_ioctl() blkdev_report_zones_ioctl() blk_queue_is_zoned() blk_queue_is_zoned q->limits.zoned == 0 return false if (!blk_queue_is_zoned(q)) <--- true return -ENOTTY; Reviewed-by: Damien Le Moal <damien.lemoal@wdc.com> Reviewed-by: Bob Liu <bob.liu@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Chaitanya Kulkarni <chaitanya.kulkarni@wdc.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>
2018-11-07null_blk: Add conventional zone configuration for zoned supportMasato Suzuki1-1/+26
Allow the creation of conventional zones by adding the zone_nr_conv configuration attribute. This new attribute is used only for zoned devices and indicates the number of conventional zones to create. The default value is 0. Since host-managed zoned block devices must always have at least one sequential zone, if the value of zone_nr_conv is larger than or equal to the total number of zones of the device nr_zones, zone_nr_conv is automatically changed to nr_zones - 1. 2018-10-25block: add a report_zones methodChristoph Hellwig1-42/+15
Dispatching a report zones command through the request queue is a major pain due to the command reply payload rewriting necessary. Given that blkdev_report_zones() is executing everything synchronously, implement report zones as a block device file operation instead, allowing major simplification of the code in many places. sd, null-blk, dm-linear and dm-flakey being the only block device drivers supporting exposing zoned block devices, these drivers are modified to provide the device side implementation of the report_zones() block device file operation. For device mappers, a new report_zones() target type operation is defined so that the upper block layer calls blkdev_report_zones() can be propagated down to the underlying devices of the dm targets. Implementation for this new operation is added to the dm-linear and dm-flakey targets. 2018-09-12null_blk: fix zoned support for non-rq based operationJens Axboe1-20/+14
The supported added for zones in null_blk seem to assume that only rq based operation is possible. But this depends on the queue_mode setting, if this is set to 0, then cmd->bio is what we need to be operating on. Right now any attempt to load null_blk with queue_mode=0 will insta-crash, since cmd->rq is NULL and null_handle_cmd() assumes it to always be set. Make the zoned code deal with bio's instead, or pass in the appropriate sector/nr_sectors instead. 2018-07-09null_blk: add zone supportMatias Bjørling1-0/+149
Adds support for exposing a null_blk device through the zone device interface. The interface is managed with the parameters zoned and zone_size. If zoned is set, the null_blk instance registers as a zoned block device. The zone_size parameter defines how big each zone will be.
