2022-08-16i2c: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König1-4/+2
The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. 2021-10-12hwmon: cleanup non-bool "valid" data fieldsPaul Fertser1-3/+3
We have bool so use it consistently in all the drivers. The following Coccinelle script was used: @@ identifier T; type t = { char, int }; @@ struct T { ... - t valid; + bool valid; ... } @@ identifier v; @@ ( - v->valid = 0 + v->valid = false | - v->valid = 1 + v->valid = true ) followed by sed to fixup the comments: sed '/bool valid;/{s/!=0/true/;s/zero/false/}' Few whitespace changes were fixed manually. All modified drivers were compile-tested. 2021-10-02hwmon: (w83793) Fix NULL pointer dereference by removing unnecessary structure fieldNadezda Lutovinova1-15/+11
If driver read tmp value sufficient for (tmp & 0x08) && (!(tmp & 0x80)) && ((tmp & 0x7) == ((tmp >> 4) & 0x7)) from device then Null pointer dereference occurs. (It is possible if tmp = 0b0xyz1xyz, where same literals mean same numbers) Also lm75[] does not serve a purpose anymore after switching to devm_i2c_new_dummy_device() in w83791d_detect_subclients(). The patch fixes possible NULL pointer dereference by removing lm75[]. Found by Linux Driver Verification project (linuxtesting.org). 2019-10-23compat_ioctl: move WDIOC handling into wdt driversArnd Bergmann1-0/+1
All watchdog drivers implement the same set of ioctl commands, and fortunately all of them are compatible between 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. Modern drivers always go through drivers/watchdog/wdt.c as an abstraction layer, but older ones implement their own file_operations on a character device for this. Move the handling from fs/compat_ioctl.c into the individual drivers. Note that most of the legacy drivers will never be used on 64-bit hardware, because they are for an old 32-bit SoC implementation, but doing them all at once is safer than trying to guess which ones do or do not need the compat_ioctl handling. 2019-05-06*: convert stream-like files from nonseekable_open -> stream_openKirill Smelkov1-1/+1
Using scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci added in 10dce8af3422 ("fs: stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write can run simultaneously without deadlock"), search and convert to stream_open all in-kernel nonseekable_open users for which read and write actually do not depend on ppos and where there is no other methods in file_operations which assume @offset access. I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to convert - and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is either not correct to convert there, or that it is not converted due to current stream_open.cocci limitations. None of these drivers appears to want to lock against other code, and they all use the BKL as the top-level lock in their file operations, meaning that there is no lock-order inversion problem. Consequently, we can remove the BKL completely, replacing it with a per-file mutex in every case. Using a scripted approach means we can avoid typos. What was true of reading the VRM value is also true of writing it: not being a register value, it doesn't need hardware access, so we don't need a reference to the i2c client. This allows for a minor code cleanup. As gcc appears to be smart enough to simplify the generated code by itself, this cleanup only affects the source code, the generated binaries are unchanged.
