2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau1-1/+0
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). 2006-06-25V4L/DVB (4068): Removed all references to kernel stuff from videodev.h and videodev2.hMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+1
The videodev.h and videodev2.h describe the public API for V4L and V4L2. It shouldn't have there any kernel-specific stuff. Those were moved to v4l2-dev.h. This patch removes some uneeded headers and include v4l2-common.h on all V4L driver. This header includes device implementation of V4L2 API provided on v4l2-dev.h as well as V4L2 internal ioctls that provides connections between master driver and its i2c devices. 2006-03-24V4L/DVB (3577): Cleanup audio input handlingHans Verkuil1-3/+0
Cleanup audio input handling in bttv and tvaudio: - inputs were specified that were never used - mute was handled as a special input which led to confusing code - confusing naming made it difficult to see if the setting was for i2c or gpio. The old audiochip.h input names moved to tvaudio.h. Currently this is used both by tvaudio and msp3400 until the msp3400 implements the new msp3400-specific inputs. Detect in bttv the tvaudio and msp3400 i2c clients and use these client pointers to set the inputs directly instead of broadcasting the command. Removed AUDC_SET_INPUT. Now replaced by VIDIOC_S_AUDIO. This will be replaced again later by the new ROUTING commands. Removed VIDIOC_G_AUDIO implementations in i2c drivers: this command is a user level command and not to be used internally. It wasn't called at all anyway. 2006-03-24V4L/DVB (3548): Renamed I2C_foo addresses to I2C_ADDR_fooMauro Carvalho Chehab1-1/+1
I2C_foo were used for some i2c addresses. Bad, since those constants could mean other i2c chip things. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2006-03-24V4L/DVB (3546): Fix Compilation after moving bttv codeMauro Carvalho Chehab1-2/+2
- Missing a Makefile for bt8xx - rds.h were at wrong directory, since it is a global header for an internal interface - tda7432 and tda9875 were dependent from bttv.h - bttv.h were holding i2c addresses Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>

2006-01-05[PATCH] I2C: Remove .owner setting from i2c_driver as it's no longer neededGreg Kroah-Hartman1-1/+0
Now that i2c_add_driver() doesn't need the module owner to be set by hand, we can delete it from the drivers. This patch catches all of the drivers that I found in the current tree (if a driver sets the .owner by hand, it's not a problem, just not needed.) 2006-01-05[PATCH] i2c: Drop i2c_driver.{owner,name}, 5 of 11Laurent Riffard1-2/+4
We should use the i2c_driver.driver's .name and .owner fields instead of the i2c_driver's ones. This patch updates the drivers/media/video and usb/media drivers. 2006-01-05[PATCH] i2c: Drop i2c_driver.flags, 2 of 3Jean Delvare1-1/+0
Just about every i2c chip driver sets the I2C_DF_NOTIFY flag, so we can simply make it the default and drop the flag. If any driver really doesn't want to be notified when i2c adapters are added, that driver can simply omit to set .attach_adapter. This approach is also more robust as it prevents accidental NULL pointer dereferences. Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>

2005-09-05[PATCH] I2C: Drop I2C_DEVNAME and i2c_clientnameJean Delvare1-1/+1
I2C_DEVNAME and i2c_clientname were introduced in 2.5.68 [1] to help media/video driver authors who wanted their code to be compatible with both Linux 2.4 and 2.6. The cause of the incompatibility has gone since [2], so I think we can get rid of them, as they tend to make the code harder to read and longer to preprocess/compile for no more benefit. I'd hope nobody seriously attempts to keep media/video driver compatible across Linux trees anymore, BTW. 2005-09-05[PATCH] I2C: Kill i2c_algorithm.id (5/7)Jean Delvare1-1/+1

2005-06-21[PATCH] I2C: Kill address ranges in non-sensors i2c chip driversJean Delvare1-1/+0
Some months ago, you killed the address ranges mechanism from all sensors i2c chip drivers (both the module parameters and the in-code address lists). I think it was a very good move, as the ranges can easily be replaced by individual addresses, and this allowed for significant cleanups in the i2c core (let alone the impressive size shrink for all these drivers). Unfortunately you did not do the same for non-sensors i2c chip drivers. These need the address ranges even less, so we could get rid of the ranges here as well for another significant i2c core cleanup. Here comes a patch which does just that. Since the process is exactly the same as what you did for the other drivers set already, I did not split this one in parts. A documentation update is included. The change saves 308 bytes in the i2c core, and an average 1382 bytes for chip drivers which use I2C_CLIENT_INSMOD, 126 bytes for those which do not. This change is required if we want to merge the sensors and non-sensors i2c code (and we want to do this). Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
