2010-05-12e1000e: use static params to save stack space (part 2)Bruce Allan1-2/+2
A couple stack cleanups missed in an earlier patch from Jesse. Signed-off-by: Bruce Allan <bruce.w.allan@intel.com> Cc: Jesse Brandeburg <jesse.brandeburg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-05-05e1000/e1000e: implement a simple interrupt moderationJesse Brandeburg1-0/+5
Back before e1000-7.3.20, the e1000 driver had a simple algorithm that managed interrupt moderation. The driver was updated in 7.3.20 to have the new "adaptive" interrupt moderation but we have customer requests to redeploy the old way as an option. This patch adds the old functionality back. The new functionality can be enabled via module parameter or at runtime via ethtool. Module parameter: (InterruptThrottleRate=4) to use this new moderation method. Ethtool method: ethtool -C ethX rx-usecs 4 Signed-off-by: Jesse Brandeburg <jesse.brandeburg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2009-06-03e1000e: enable CRC stripping by defaultBruce Allan1-0/+2
CRC stripping should be enabled by default but was not if it was not specified as a module parameter. Signed-off-by: Bruce Allan <bruce.w.allan@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-11-16e1000e: fix IPMI trafficJeff Kirsher1-0/+25
Some users reported that they have machines with BMCs enabled that cannot receive IPMI traffic after e1000e is loaded. http://marc.info/?l=e1000-devel&m=121909039127414&w=2 http://marc.info/?l=e1000-devel&m=121365543823387&w=2 This fixes the issue if they load with the new parameter = 0 by disabling crc stripping, but leaves the performance feature on for most users. Based on work done by Hong Zhang. Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jesse Brandeburg <jesse.brandeburg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-10-01e1000e: write protect ICHx NVM to prevent malicious write/eraseBruce Allan1-0/+30
Set the hardware to ignore all write/erase cycles to the GbE region in the ICHx NVM. This feature can be disabled by the WriteProtectNVM module parameter (enabled by default) only after a hardware reset, but the machine must be power cycled before trying to enable writes. 2008-08-14e1000e: Set InterruptThrottleRate to default when invalid value usedBruce Allan1-4/+19
During module load, seting the InterruptThrottleRate parameter to an invalid value would result in the itr/itr_setting pair being set to unexpected values which would result in poor performance. 2008-08-07e1000e: convert ndev_ printks to something smallerJeff Kirsher1-19/+12
The ndev_* printk's are too lenghty and we don't need to specify the adapter/netdev struct at all, making this a lot more readable. Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Auke Kok <auke-jan.h.kok@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com>

2008-01-28e1000e: Disable L1 ASPM power savings for 82573 mobile variantsAuke Kok1-7/+0
L1 ASPM link (pci-e link power savings) has significant benefits (~1W savings when link is active) but unfortunately does not work correctly on any of the chipsets that have 82573 on mobile platforms which causes various nuisances: - eeprom reads return garbage information leading to bad eeprom checksums - long ping times (up to 2 seconds) - complete system hangs (freeze/lockup) A lot of T60 owners have been plagued by this, but other mobile solutions also suffer from these symptoms. Disabling L1 ASPM before we activate the PCI-E link fixes all of these issues at the cost of some power consumption. Remove a workaround RDTR adjustment that is no longer needed with this new one. 2007-10-30e1000e: fix sparse warningsStephen Hemminger1-17/+18

2007-10-10[E1000E]: New pci-express e1000 driver (currently for ICH9 devices only)Auke Kok1-0/+382
This driver implements support for the ICH9 on-board LAN ethernet device. The device is similar to ICH8. The driver encompasses code to support 82571/2/3, es2lan and ICH8 devices as well, but those device IDs are disabled and will be "lifted" from the e1000 driver over one at a time once this driver receives some more live time. Changes to the last snapshot posted are exclusively in the internal hardware API organization. Many thanks to Jeff Garzik for jumping in and getting this organized with a keen eye on the future layout.
