2019-03-18mac8390: Fix mmio access size probeFinn Thain1-7/+12
The bug that Stan reported is as follows. After a restart, a 16-bit NIC may be incorrectly identified as a 32-bit NIC and stop working. mac8390 slot.E: Memory length resource not found, probing mac8390 slot.E: Farallon EtherMac II-C (type farallon) mac8390 slot.E: MAC 00:00:c5:30:c2:99, IRQ 61, 32 KB shared memory at 0xfeed0000, 32-bit access. The bug never arises after a cold start and only intermittently after a warm start. (I didn't investigate why the bug is intermittent.) It turns out that memcpy_toio() is deprecated and memcmp_withio() also has issues. Replacing these calls with mmio accessors fixes the problem. The mac8390 driver defines its own variants of memcpy_fromio() and memcpy_toio(), using similar implementations, but different function signatures. 2018-02-21net/8390: Fix msg_enable patch snafuFinn Thain1-8/+0
The lib8390 module parameter 'msg_enable' doesn't do anything useful: it causes an ancient version string to be logged. Remove redundant code that logs the same string. In ne.c and wd.c, the value of ei_local->msg_enable is used before being assigned. Use ne_msg_enable and wd_msg_enable, respectively. Most of the other 8390 drivers never assign ei_local->msg_enable. Use the 'msg_enable' module parameter from lib8390 as the default value. Eliminate the pointless static and local variables. Clean up an indentation mistake. All of these issues originated from the same patch. 2018-01-16nubus: Rename struct nubus_devFinn Thain1-12/+14
It is misleading to call a functional resource a "device". In adopting the Linux Driver Model, the struct device will be embedded in struct nubus_board. That will compound the terminlogy problem because drivers will bind with boards, not with functional resources. Avoid this by renaming struct nubus_dev as struct nubus_rsrc. "Functional resource" is the vendor's terminology so this helps avoid confusion. Cc: "David S. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson1-1/+0
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. Removed the shared ei_debug variable. Replaced it by adding u32 msg_enable to the private struct ei_device. Now each 8390 ethernet instance has a per-device logging variable. Changed older style printk() calls to more canonical forms. Tested on: ne, ne2k-pci, smc-ultra, and wd hardware. V4.0 - Substituted pr_info() and pr_debug() for printk() KERN_INFO and KERN_DEBUG V3.0 - Checked for cases where pr_cont() was most appropriate choice. - Changed module parameter from 'debug' to 'msg_enable' because debug was no longer the best description. V2.0 - Changed netif_msg_(drv|probe|ifdown|rx_err|tx_err|tx_queued|intr|rx_status|hw) to netif_(dbg|info|warn|err) where possible.
