Rather than have MAC drivers open code the test, add a helper in

PHY drivers don't indicate they support pause. They expect MAC drivers
to enable its support if the MAC has the needed hardware. Thus MAC
drivers should not mask Pause support, but enable it.

Many Ethernet MAC drivers want to limit the PHY to only advertise a

The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This
patch replaces cases of:
kzalloc(a * b, gfp)
with:
kcalloc(a * b, gfp)
as well as handling cases of:
kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp)
with:
kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)
as it's slightly less ugly than:
kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)
This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:
kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)
though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.
Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.
The Coccinelle script used for this was:
// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

tg3_free_consistent() calls dma_free_coherent() to free tp->hw_stats
under spinlock and can trigger BUG_ON() in vunmap() because vunmap()
may sleep. Fix it by removing the spinlock and relying on the
TG3_FLAG_INIT_COMPLETE flag to prevent race conditions between
tg3_get_stats64() and tg3_free_consistent(). TG3_FLAG_INIT_COMPLETE
is always cleared under tp->lock before tg3_free_consistent()
and therefore tg3_get_stats64() can safely access tp->hw_stats
under tp->lock if TG3_FLAG_INIT_COMPLETE is set.

The problem was introduced in commit
506b0a395f26 ("[netdrv] tg3: APE heartbeat changes"). The bug occurs
because tp->lock spinlock is held which is obtained in tg3_start
by way of tg3_full_lock(), line 11571. The documentation for usleep_range()
specifically states it cannot be used inside a spinlock.

In ungraceful host shutdown or driver crash case BMC connectivity is
lost. APE firmware is missing the driver state in this
case to keep the BMC connectivity alive.
This patch has below change to address this issue.
Heartbeat mechanism with APE firmware. This heartbeat mechanism
is needed to notify the APE firmware about driver state.
This patch also has the change in wait time for APE event from
1ms to 20ms as there can be some delay in getting response.

This fixes a hang issue seen when changing the MTU size from 1500 MTU
to 9000 MTU on both 5717 and 5719 chips. In discussion with Broadcom,
they've indicated that these chipsets have the same phy as the 57766
chipset, so the same workarounds apply. This has been tested by IBM
on both Power 8 and Power 9 systems as well as by Broadcom on x86
hardware and has been confirmed to resolve the hang issue.

This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using
timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already
holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes,
since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with
the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following
examples, in addition to some other variations.
Casting from unsigned long:
void my_callback(unsigned long data)
{
struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
...
}
...
setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr);
and forced object casts:
void my_callback(struct something *ptr)
{
...
}
...
setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr);
become:
void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
{
struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
...
}
...
timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);
Direct function assignments:
void my_callback(unsigned long data)
{
struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
...
}
...
ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback;
have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args:
void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
{
struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
...
}
...
ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback;
And finally, callbacks without a data assignment:
void my_callback(unsigned long data)
{
...
}
...
setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);
have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion:
void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused)
{
...
}
...
timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);
The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script:
spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \
-I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \
-I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \

The recent commit 087d7a8c9174 "tg3: Fix for diasllow rx coalescing
time to be 0" disallow to set Rx coalescing time to be 0 as this stops
generating interrupts for the incoming packets. I found the zero
Tx coalescing time stops generating interrupts for outgoing packets
as well and fires Tx watchdog later. To avoid this, don't allow to set
Tx coalescing time to 0 and also remove subsequent checks that become
senseless.

tg3_tso_bug() can hit a condition where the entire tx ring is not big
enough to segment the GSO packet. For example, if MSS is very small,
gso_segs can exceed the tx ring size. When we hit the condition, it
will cause tx timeout.
tg3_tso_bug() is called to handle TSO and DMA hardware bugs.
For TSO bugs, if tg3_tso_bug() cannot succeed, we have to drop the packet.
For DMA bugs, we can still fall back to linearize the SKB and let the
hardware transmit the TSO packet.
This patch adds a function tg3_tso_bug_gso_check() to check if there
are enough tx descriptors for GSO before calling tg3_tso_bug().
The caller will then handle the error appropriately - drop or
lineraize the SKB.

The tg3_set_eeprom() function correctly initializes the 'start' variable,

avoids the warning without making it less readable, so this adds an

When having permanent EEH error, the PCI device will be removed
from the system. For this case, we shouldn't set pcierr_recovery
to true wrongly, which blocks the driver to release the allocated
interrupts and their handlers. Eventually, we can't disable MSI
or MSIx successfully because of the MSI or MSIx interrupts still
have associated interrupt actions, which is turned into following
