2019-12-12netdev: pass the stuck queue to the timeout handlerMichael S. Tsirkin3-3/+3
This allows incrementing the correct timeout statistic without any mess. Down the road, devices can learn to reset just the specific queue. mmiowb() is now implied by spin_unlock() on architectures that require it, so there is no reason to call it from driver code. This patch was generated using coccinelle: @mmiowb@ @@ - mmiowb(); and invoked as: $ for d in drivers include/linux/qed sound; do \ spatch --include-headers --sp-file mmiowb.cocci --dir $d --in-place; done NOTE: mmiowb() has only ever guaranteed ordering in conjunction with spin_unlock(). However, pairing each mmiowb() removal in this patch with the corresponding call to spin_unlock() is not at all trivial, so there is a small chance that this change may regress any drivers incorrectly relying on mmiowb() to order MMIO writes between CPUs using lock-free synchronisation. If you've ended up bisecting to this commit, you can reintroduce the mmiowb() calls using wmb() instead, which should restore the old behaviour on all architectures other than some esoteric ia64 systems. Currently variable data0 is not being initialized so a garbage value is being passed to vxge_hw_vpath_fw_api and this value is being written to the rts_access_steer_data0 register. There are other occurrances where data0 is being initialized to zero (e.g. in function vxge_hw_upgrade_read_version) so I think it makes sense to ensure data0 is initialized likewise to 0. Neterion was standalone for several years, then acquired by Exar and shutdown in 11 months without ever making any new Exar branded adapters. Users would probably think of them as Neterion and not Exar (as there have been no follow-on adapters and the vast majority ever sold were under the Neterion name). 6c541b4595a2 ("net: ethernet: Sort Kconfig sourcing alphabetically") sorted Kconfig sourcing based on directory names, but in a couple cases, the menu item text is quite different from the directory name and is not sorted correctly: drivers/net/ethernet/neterion/Kconfig => "Exar devices" To address that and clear up any confusion about the name, "Exar" was changed to "Neterion (Exar)" and the relevant entries in the Makefile and Kconfig were reordered to match the alphabetical organization. The vzalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of: vzalloc(a * b) with: vzalloc(array_size(a, b)) as well as handling cases of: vzalloc(a * b * c) with: vzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c)) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: vzalloc(4 * 1024) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the former. The network device operation for reading statistics is only called in one place, and it ignores the return value. Having a structure return value is potentially confusing because some future driver could incorrectly assume that the return value was used. This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread.
