2013-05-27net: ethernet: remove unnecessary platform_set_drvdata()Jingoo Han1-1/+0
The driver core clears the driver data to NULL after device_release or on probe failure, since commit 0998d0631001288a5974afc0b2a5f568bcdecb4d (device-core: Ensure drvdata = NULL when no driver is bound). Thus, it is not needed to manually clear the device driver data to NULL. 2013-03-09drivers:net: Remove unnecessary OOM messages after netdev_alloc_skbJoe Perches2-19/+5
Emitting netdev_alloc_skb and netdev_alloc_skb_ip_align OOM messages is unnecessary as there is already a dump_stack after allocation failures. Other trivial changes around these removals: Convert a few comparisons of pointer to 0 to !pointer. Change flow to remove unnecessary label. Remove now unused variable. Hoist assignment from if. 2013-01-22drivers/net/ethernet/seeq: remove depends on CONFIG_EXPERIMENTALKees Cook1-3/+1
The CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL config item has not carried much meaning for a while now and is almost always enabled by default. As agreed during the Linux kernel summit, remove it from any "depends on" lines in Kconfigs. Acked-by: David S. 2013-01-22drivers/net: delete old x86 variant of the seeq8005 driverPaul Gortmaker4-917/+0
The last update to the Ethernet HowTo (over 10 years ago) listed this: ------------------------ SEEQ 8005 Status: Obsolete, Driver Name: seeq8005 There is little information about the card included in the driver, and hence little information to be put here. If you have a question, you are probably best trying to e-mail the driver author as listed in the source. It was marked obsolete as of the 2.4 series kernels. ------------------------ If it was obsolete over a decade ago, the situation can not have improved with the passage of time, so let us act on that. Even with today's improved search engines, I was unable to locate any real meaningful information on the ISA implementation of this rare chip. There are ARM and SGI variants of the driver in tree, but they do not depend on the original x86 driver source or header file. We leave those non-x86 drivers to be deleted by the arch maintainers when they decide to expire those legacy platforms as a whole. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>

2012-11-19net/ethernet: remove useless is_valid_ether_addr from drivers ndo_openJoachim Eastwood1-6/+0
If ndo_validate_addr is set to the generic eth_validate_addr function there is no point in calling is_valid_ether_addr from driver ndo_open if ndo_open is not used elsewhere in the driver. With this change is_valid_ether_addr will be called from the generic eth_validate_addr function. So there should be no change in the actual behavior. the driver sees wether the dev_seeq pointer is having a error that can be read by using the PTR_ERR, and returns it at error case, other wise 0 at success case. the PTR_RET does the same thing, and use PTR_RET instead of redoing the code of PTR_RET Signed-off-by: Devendra Naga <develkernel412222@gmail.com> Acked-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Jiri Pirko <jiri@resnulli.us> Signed-off-by: David S. 2011-08-27drivers/net/ethernet/*: Enabled vendor Kconfig optionsJeff Kirsher1-0/+1
Based on finds for Stephen Rothwell, where current defconfig's enable a ethernet driver and it is not compiled due to the newly added NET_VENDOR_* component of Kconfig. This patch enables all the "new" Kconfig options so that current defconfig's will continue to compile the expected drivers. In addition, by enabling all the new Kconfig options does not add any un-expected options. CC: Stephen Rothwll <sfc@canb.auug.org.au> Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com>
