2012-10-07net: remove skb recyclingEric Dumazet2-19/+2
Over time, skb recycling infrastructure got litle interest and many bugs. Generic rx path skb allocation is now using page fragments for efficient GRO / TCP coalescing, and recyling a tx skb for rx path is not worth the pain. Last identified bug is that fat skbs can be recycled and it can endup using high order pages after few iterations. With help from Maxime Bizon, who pointed out that commit 87151b8689d (net: allow pskb_expand_head() to get maximum tailroom) introduced this regression for recycled skbs. Instead of fixing this bug, lets remove skb recycling. Drivers wanting really hot skbs should use build_skb() anyway, to allocate/populate sk_buff right before netif_receive_skb() Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Cc: Maxime Bizon <mbizon@freebox.fr> Signed-off-by: David S. 2012-09-21net/stmmac: Use clk_prepare_enable and clk_disable_unprepareStefan Roese2-8/+8
This patch fixes an issue introduced by commit ID 6a81c26f [net/stmmac: remove conditional compilation of clk code], which switched from the internal stmmac_clk_{en}{dis}able calls to clk_{en}{dis}able. By this, calling clk_prepare and clk_unprepare was removed. clk_{un}prepare is mandatory for platforms using common clock framework. Since these drivers are used by SPEAr platform, which supports common clock framework, add clk_{un}prepare() support for them. Otherwise the clocks are not correctly en-/disabled and ethernet support doesn't work. 2012-08-31net:stmmac: Remove bus_id from mdio platform data.Srinivas Kandagatla2-6/+3
This patch removes bus_id from mdio platform data, The reason to remove bus_id is, stmmac mdio bus_id is always same as stmmac bus-id, so there is no point in passing this in different variable. Also stmmac ethernet driver connects to phy with bus_id passed its platform data. So, having single bus-id is much simpler. 2012-08-31net:stmmac: fix broken stmmac_pltfr_remove.Srinivas Kandagatla1-1/+2
This patch fixes stmmac_pltfr_remove function, which is broken because, it is accessing plat variable via freed memory priv pointer which gets freed by free_netdev called from stmmac_dvr_remove. In short this patch caches the plat pointer in local variable before calling stmmac_dvr_remove to prevent code accessing freed memory. Without this patch any attempt to remove the stmmac device will fail as below: Unregistering eth 0 ... 2012-08-31net:stmmac: Add check if mdiobus is registered in stmmac_mdio_unregisterSrinivas Kandagatla1-0/+3
This patch adds a basic check in stmmac_mdio_unregister to see if mdio bus registeration for this driver was actually sucessfull or not. Use case here is, if BSP considers using mdio-gpio bus along with stmmac driver by passing mdio_bus_data as NULL in platform data. Call to stmmac_mdio_register with mdio_bus_data as NULL returns 0, which is a considered sucessfull call form stmmac. Then again when we unload the driver we just call stmmac_mdio_unregister, this is were the actual problem is stmmac-mdio code dont really know at this instance of calling that stmmac_mdio_register was actually successful. So Adding a check in stmmac_mdio_unregister is always safe. Without this patch stmmac driver calls stmmac_mdio_register from stmmac_release which Segfaults as mii bus was never registered at the first point. Originally the this bug was found when unloading an stmmac driver instance which uses mdio-gpio for smi access. Signed-off-by: Srinivas Kandagatla <srinivas.kandagatla@st.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2012-08-08net/stmmac: mark probe function as __devinitArnd Bergmann1-1/+1
Driver probe functions are generally __devinit so they will be discarded after initialization for non-hotplug kernels. This was found by a new warning after patch 6a228452d "stmmac: Add device-tree support" adds a new __devinit function that is called from stmmac_pltfr_probe. Without this patch, building socfpga_defconfig results in: WARNING: drivers/net/ethernet/stmicro/stmmac/stmmac.o(.text+0x5d4c): Section mismatch in reference from the function stmmac_pltfr_probe() to the function .devinit.text:stmmac_probe_config_dt() The function stmmac_pltfr_probe() references the function __devinit stmmac_probe_config_dt(). 2012-07-09stmmac: Fix for higher mtu size handlingDeepak Sikri1-1/+2
For the higher mtu sizes requiring the buffer size greater than 8192, the buffers are sent or received using multiple dma descriptors/ same descriptor with option of multi buffer handling. It was observed during tests that the driver was missing on data packets during the normal ping operations if the data buffers being used catered to jumbo frame handling. The memory barrriers are added in between preparation of dma descriptors in the jumbo frame handling path to ensure all instructions before enabling the dma are complete. This is an example how this field is managed in ST platforms static struct stmmac_dma_cfg gmac_dma_setting = { .pbl = 32, }; static struct plat_stmmacenet_data stih415_ethernet_platform_data[] = { { .dma_cfg = &gmac_dma_setting, .has_gmac = 1, [snip] This patch so verifies that the dma_cfg passed from the platform. In case of it is NULL there is no reason that the driver has to fail and some default values can be passed. These are ok for all the Synopsys chips and could impact on performances, only. 2012-04-04stmmac: MDC clock dynamically based on the csr clock inputGiuseppe CAVALLARO4-2/+53
If a specific clk_csr value is passed from the platform this means that the CSR Clock Range selection cannot be changed at run-time and it is fixed (as reported in the driver documentation). Viceversa the driver will try to set the MDC clock dynamically according to the actual clock input. 2012-04-04stmmac: extend CSR Clock Range programmingGiuseppe CAVALLARO1-2/+2
The CSR Clock Range has been reworked and new macros has been added in the platform header to allow the CSR Clock Range selection in the GMII Address Register. The previous work didn't add the other fields that can be used to achieve MDC clock of frequency higher than the IEEE 802.3 specified frequency limit of 2.5 MHz and program a clock divider of lower value. On such platforms, these are used indeed so this patch adds them. Signed-off-by: Giuseppe Cavallaro <peppe.cavallaro@st.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2012-04-04stmmac: re-work the internal GMAC DMA platf parametersDeepak SIKRI7-12/+49
This patch re-works the internal GMAC DMA parameters passed from the platform. In the past, we only passed the pbl but, with new core, other parameters can be passed and are mandatory on some platforms. New parameters are documented in stmmac.txt because this patch has an impact for many platforms. 2012-04-04stmmac: sanitize the rx coe and add the type-1 csum (v2)Deepak SIKRI7-24/+58
This patch sanities the RX coe and adds the Type-1 Rx checksum offload engine (COE). So the RX COE can be passed through the platform but can be fixed at run-time in case of the core has the HW capability register. Also to support the Type-1 Rx COE the driver must append the HW checksum at the end of payload in case the Rx checksum engine was used to offload the HW checksum. This v2 version also fixes the IPC that has to be enabled and verified. 2012-04-04stmmac: Allow stmmac to work with other PHY buses(v3).Srinivas Kandagatla1-1/+7
As stmmac mdio bus name prefix is hardcoded in the driver, this allows only phys on stmmac mdio buses to connect, however stmmac should allow phys on other mdio buses too. This patch adds new variable phy_bus_name to plat_stmmacenet_data struct to let the BSP decide which phy bus to be used by stmmac driver. A typical use-case is to have generic MDIO buses like mdio-gpio on top of stmmac.
