2021-05-14sparc/vio: make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König2-5/+2
The driver core ignores the return value of struct bus_type::remove() because there is only little that can be done. To simplify the quest to make this function return void, let struct vio_driver::remove() return void, too. All users already unconditionally return 0, this commit makes it obvious that returning an error code is a bad idea and should prevent that future driver authors consider returning an error code. Note there are two nominally different implementations for a vio bus: one in arch/sparc/kernel/vio.c and the other in arch/powerpc/platforms/pseries/vio.c. This patch only addresses the former. 2021-05-13ethernet: sun: niu: fix missing checks of niu_pci_eeprom_read()Du Cheng1-10/+24
niu_pci_eeprom_read() may fail, so add checks to its return value and propagate the error up the callstack. An examination of the callstack up to niu_pci_eeprom_read shows that: niu_pci_eeprom_read() // returns int niu_pci_vpd_scan_props() // returns int niu_pci_vpd_fetch() // returns *void* niu_get_invariants() // returns int since niu_pci_vpd_fetch() returns void which breaks the bubbling up, change its return type to int so that error is propagated upwards. 2021-05-13Revert "niu: fix missing checks of niu_pci_eeprom_read"Greg Kroah-Hartman1-8/+2
This reverts commit 26fd962bde0b15e54234fe762d86bc0349df1de4. Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were correct or not. Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a later kernel change. The change here was incorrect. While it is nice to check if niu_pci_eeprom_read() succeeded or not when using the data, any error that might have happened was not propagated upwards properly, causing the kernel to assume that these reads were successful, which results in invalid data in the buffer that was to contain the successfully read data. This is used for feature discovery by user space (instead of kernel version parsing or trial and error). - Support IGMPv3/MLDv2 multicast listener discovery protocols in bridge. - Allow more than 255 IPv4 multicast interfaces. - Add support for Type of Service (ToS) reflection in SYN/SYN-ACK packets of TCPv6. - In Multi-patch TCP (MPTCP) support concurrent transmission of data on multiple subflows in a load balancing scenario. Enhance advertising addresses via the RM_ADDR/ADD_ADDR options. - Support SMC-Dv2 version of SMC, which enables multi-subnet deployments. - Allow more calls to same peer in RxRPC. - Support two new Controller Area Network (CAN) protocols - CAN-FD and ISO 15765-2:2016. - Add xfrm/IPsec compat layer, solving the 32bit user space on 64bit kernel problem. - Add TC actions for implementing MPLS L2 VPNs. - Improve nexthop code - e.g. handle various corner cases when nexthop objects are removed from groups better, skip unnecessary notifications and make it easier to offload nexthops into HW by converting to a blocking notifier. - Support adding and consuming TCP header options by BPF programs, opening the doors for easy experimental and deployment-specific TCP option use. - Reorganize TCP congestion control (CC) initialization to simplify life of TCP CC implemented in BPF. - Add support for shipping BPF programs with the kernel and loading them early on boot via the User Mode Driver mechanism, hence reusing all the user space infra we have. - Support sleepable BPF programs, initially targeting LSM and tracing. - Add bpf_d_path() helper for returning full path for given 'struct path'. - Make bpf_tail_call compatible with bpf-to-bpf calls. - Allow BPF programs to call map_update_elem on sockmaps. - Add BPF Type Format (BTF) support for type and enum discovery, as well as support for using BTF within the kernel itself (current use is for pretty printing structures). - Support listing and getting information about bpf_links via the bpf syscall. - Enhance kernel interfaces around NIC firmware update. Refactor port buffer handling to make the defaults more suitable and support setting these values explicitly via the DCBNL interface. - Add XDP support for Intel's igb driver. - Support offloading TC flower classification and filtering rules to mscc_ocelot switches. - Add PTP support for Marvell Octeontx2 and PP2.2 hardware, as well as fixed interval period pulse generator and one-step timestamping in dpaa-eth. - Add support for various auth offloads in WiFi APs, e.g. SAE (WPA3) offload. - Add Lynx PHY/PCS MDIO module, and convert various drivers which have this HW to use it. 2020-09-29net: sunbmac: Replace in_interrupt() usageSebastian Andrzej Siewior1-9/+9
bigmac_init_rings() has an argument signaling if it is called from the interrupt handler. This is used to decide between GFP_KERNEL and GFP_ATOMIC for memory allocations. But it also checks in_interrupt() to handle invocations which come from the timer callback bigmac_timer() via bigmac_hw_init(), which is invoked with 'in_irq = 0'. While the timer callback is clearly not in hard interrupt context it is still not sleepable context. Rename the argument to `non_blocking' and set it to true if invoked from the timer callback or the interrupt handler which allows to remove the in_interrupt() check and makes the code consistent. As part of the W=1 cleanups for ethernet, a million [*] driver comments had to be cleaned up to get the W=1 compilation to succeed. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles. After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch. The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'cas_tx_tiny_alloc()', GFP_KERNEL can be used because a few lines below in its only caller, 'cas_alloc_rxds()', is also called. This function makes an explicit use of GFP_KERNEL. With legacy PM, drivers themselves were responsible for managing the device's power states and takes care of register states. And they use PCI helper functions to do it. After upgrading to the generic structure, PCI core will take care of required tasks and drivers should do only device-specific operations. In this driver: gem_suspend() calls gem_do_stop() which in turn invokes pci_disable_device(). As the PCI helper function is not called at the end/start of the function body, breaking the function in two parts may change its behavior. The only other function invoking gem_do_stop() is gem_close(). Hence, gem_close() and gem_suspend() can do the required end steps on their own. The same case is with gem_resume(). Both gem_resume() and gem_open() invoke gem_do_start(). Again, make the caller functions do the required steps on their own. Compile-tested only. Patch series "mm: consolidate definitions of page table accessors", v2. The low level page table accessors (pXY_index(), pXY_offset()) are duplicated across all architectures and sometimes more than once. For instance, we have 31 definition of pgd_offset() for 25 supported architectures. Most of these definitions are actually identical and typically it boils down to, e.g. static inline unsigned long pmd_index(unsigned long address) { return (address >> PMD_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PMD - 1); } static inline pmd_t *pmd_offset(pud_t *pud, unsigned long address) { return (pmd_t *)pud_page_vaddr(*pud) + pmd_index(address); } These definitions can be shared among 90% of the arches provided XYZ_SHIFT, PTRS_PER_XYZ and xyz_page_vaddr() are defined. For architectures that really need a custom version there is always possibility to override the generic version with the usual ifdefs magic. These patches introduce include/linux/pgtable.h that replaces include/asm-generic/pgtable.h and add the definitions of the page table accessors to the new header. This patch (of 12): The linux/mm.h header includes <asm/pgtable.h> to allow inlining of the functions involving page table manipulations, e.g. pte_alloc() and pmd_alloc(). So, there is no point to explicitly include <asm/pgtable.h> in the files that include <linux/mm.h>. 2019-03-20net: remove 'fallback' argument from dev->ndo_select_queue()Paolo Abeni2-4/+2
After the previous patch, all the callers of ndo_select_queue() provide as a 'fallback' argument netdev_pick_tx. The only exceptions are nested calls to ndo_select_queue(), which pass down the 'fallback' available in the current scope - still netdev_pick_tx. We can drop such argument and replace fallback() invocation with netdev_pick_tx(). This avoids an indirect call per xmit packet in some scenarios (TCP syn, UDP unconnected, XDP generic, pktgen) with device drivers implementing such ndo. It also clean the code a bit. Fix up the SPDX identifier and remove the boiler plate text as it is redundant.
