2019-06-02net: ipv4: provide __rcu annotation for ifa_listFlorian Westphal1-1/+1
ifa_list is protected by rcu, yet code doesn't reflect this. Add the __rcu annotations and fix up all places that are now reported by sparse. I've done this in the same commit to not add intermediate patches that result in new warnings. 2019-04-08drivers: Remove explicit invocations of mmiowb()Will Deacon1-3/+0
mmiowb() is now implied by spin_unlock() on architectures that require it, so there is no reason to call it from driver code. This patch was generated using coccinelle: @mmiowb@ @@ - mmiowb(); and invoked as: $ for d in drivers include/linux/qed sound; do \ spatch --include-headers --sp-file mmiowb.cocci --dir $d --in-place; done NOTE: mmiowb() has only ever guaranteed ordering in conjunction with spin_unlock(). However, pairing each mmiowb() removal in this patch with the corresponding call to spin_unlock() is not at all trivial, so there is a small chance that this change may regress any drivers incorrectly relying on mmiowb() to order MMIO writes between CPUs using lock-free synchronisation. If you've ended up bisecting to this commit, you can reintroduce the mmiowb() calls using wmb() instead, which should restore the old behaviour on all architectures other than some esoteric ia64 systems. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson1-1/+0
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set to 4096 to remedy that. v2: fix up lantiq_etop, missed breakage due to drive not compiling on x86 CC: netdev@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jarod Wilson <jarod@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2015-11-17via-velocity: unconditionally drop frames with bad l2 lengthTimo Teräs1-21/+3
By default the driver allowed incorrect frames to be received. What is worse the code does not handle very short frames correctly. The FCS length is unconditionally subtracted, and the underflow can cause skb_put to be called with large number after implicit cast to unsigned. And indeed, an skb_over_panic() was observed with via-velocity. This removes the module parameter as it does not work in it's current state, and should be implemented via NETIF_F_RXALL if needed. 2015-06-23drivers/net: remove all references to obsolete Ethernet-HOWTOPaul Gortmaker1-3/+1
This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. 2015-01-19mii: Handle link state changes for forced modes in mii_check_media()Ben Hutchings1-1/+2
mii_check_media() does not update the link (carrier) state or log link changes when the link mode is forced. Drivers using the mii library must do this themselves, but most of them do not. 2014-06-12via-rhine: fix full-duplex with autoneg disableFrançois Cachereul1-2/+3
With some specific configuration (VT6105M on Soekris 5510 and depending on the device at the other end), fragmented packets were not transmitted when forcing 100 full-duplex with autoneg disable. This fix now write full-duplex chips register when forcing full or half-duplex not only when autoneg is enable. Signed-off-by: François Cachereul <f.cachereul@alphalink.fr> Signed-off-by: David S. 2014-05-05net: via-rhine: Convert #ifdef USE_MMIO to a runtime flagAlexey Charkov1-47/+55
This introduces another flag in 'quirks' to replace the preprocessor define (USE_MMIO) used to indicate whether the device needs a separate enable routine to operate in MMIO mode. All of the currently known platform Rhine cores operate in MMIO mode by default, and on PCI it is preferred over PIO for performance reasons. However, a comment in code suggests that some (?) early Rhine cores only work in PIO mode, so they should not be switched to MMIO. Enabling MMIO on PCI is still triggered by the same Kconfig option to avoid breaking user configs needlessly, but this can be changed going forward towards automatic runtime detection in case a list of PIO-only Rhine revisions can be compiled. This also fixes a couple of compiler warnings detected by Fengguang Wu's test bot (!USE_MMIO case): drivers/net/ethernet/via/via-rhine.c: In function 'rhine_init_one_pci': drivers/net/ethernet/via/via-rhine.c:1108:1: warning: label 'err_out_unmap' defined but not used [-Wunused-label] err_out_unmap: ^ drivers/net/ethernet/via/via-rhine.c:1022:6: warning: unused variable 'i' [-Wunused-variable] int i, rc; ^ drivers/net/ethernet/via/via-rhine.c:916:22: warning: 'quirks' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized] phy_id = rp->quirks & rqIntPHY ? 1 : 0; ^ drivers/net/ethernet/via/via-rhine.c:1026:6: note: 'quirks' was declared here u32 quirks; ^ Signed-off-by: Alexey Charkov <alchark@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2014-05-02net: via-rhine: Drop revision property, use quirks insteadAlexey Charkov1-35/+42
This adds two new flags to quirks and thus removes the need to carry revision in rhine_private. As a result, the init logic is simplified a bit. This also fixes a compiler warning in OF code on 64bit due to pointer casting: drivers/net/ethernet/via/via-rhine.c: In function ‘rhine_init_one_platform’: drivers/net/ethernet/via/via-rhine.c:1132:13: warning: cast from pointer to integer of different size [-Wpointer-to-int-cast] revision = (u32)match->data; ^ That code was added in commit 2d283862dc62daead9db0dc89cd0d0351e91f765 ("net: via-rhine: add OF bus binding"). This should make the driver usable with VIA/WonderMedia ARM-based Systems-on-Chip integrated Rhine III adapters. Note that these are always in MMIO mode, and don't have any known EEPROM.
