2009-07-24ath9k: cleanup try count for MRR in rate controlLuis R. Rodriguez3-11/+22
This has no functional change and just cleans up the code to be more legible and removes a useless variable for Multi Rate Retry. For regular frames we use 2 retries for MRR segments [0-2]. For the last MRR segment [3] we use 4. MRR[0] = 2 MRR[1] = 2 MRR[2] = 2 MRR[3] = 4 Cc: Derek Smithies <derek@indranet.co.nz> Cc: Chittajit Mitra <Chittajit.Mitra@Atheros.com> Signed-off-by: Luis R. 2009-07-24ar9170: implement transmit aggregationChristian Lamparter2-26/+634
This patch roughly implements xmit aggregation for ar9170-like device. Not all AP are compatible with the driver(and firmware) yet, so YMMV. A more refined code will definitely need the final HT specification to be available for the public, lots of firmware modification and possibly a redesigned driver just for good measure. Sadly, these conditions won't come true anytime soon... Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@web.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>

2009-07-21ath: add support for special 0x8000 regulatory domainLuis R. Rodriguez1-0/+17
Two users of ar9170 devices have now reported their cards have been programmed with a regulatory domain of 0x8000. This is not a valid regulatory domain as such these users were unable to use these devices. Since this doesn't seem to be a device EEPROM corruption we must treat it specially. It may have been possible the manufacturer intended to use 0x0 as the regulatory domain and that would ultimately yield to US but since we cannot get confirmationf or this we default this special case to one of our world regulatory domains, specifically 0x64. 2009-07-21ath9k: Tune ANI function processing on AP mode during ANI resetLuis R. Rodriguez1-0/+12
For AP mode we must tune ANI specially for 2 GHz and for 5 GHz. We mask in only the flags we want to toggle on ath9k_hw_ani_control() through the ah->ani_function bitmask, this will take care of ignoring changes during ANI reset which we were disabling before. 2009-07-21ath5k: temporarily disable crypto for AP modeBob Copeland1-0/+3
Pavel Roskin reported some issues with using AP mode without nohwcrypt=1. Most likely this is similar to the problem fixed some time ago in ath9k by 3f53dd64f192450cb331c0fecfc26ca952fb242f, "ath9k: Fix hw crypto configuration for TKIP in AP mode." 2009-07-10ath5k: write PCU registers on initial resetBob Copeland1-1/+1
"Ath5k: unify resets" introduced a regression into 2.6.28 where the PCU registers are never initialized, due to ath5k_reset() always passing true for change_channel. We subsequently program a lot of these registers but several may start in an unknown state. 2009-07-10ath5k: rework beacon configurationBob Copeland2-40/+20
Using the enable_beacon flag allows some simplifications and fixes some corner cases in beacon handling. This change adds a state variable for beaconing in ath5k_beacon_config and handles both enabling and disabling, thus eliminating the need for ath5k_beacon_disable. We also now configure the beacon when any of the beacon parameters change, so ath5k_beacon_reconfig is no longer needed (its mmiowb gets moved to ath5k_beacon_config). Finally, by locking around the whole config function, we don't need to worry about clearing the interrupt mask register before installing the new mask. The upshot is this correctly disables beaconing when the interfaces are taken down, it fixes a potential restarting of beaconing when ath5k_reset() is called, and ensures that updates to the beacon interval take effect immediately. 2009-07-10ath9k: differentiate quality reporting between legacy and HT configurationsLuis R. Rodriguez1-4/+25
We were not differentiating quality between legacy and HT configurations. We change this to consider the differences. New theory for reporting quality: At a hardware RSSI of 45 you will be able to use MCS 7 reliably. At a hardware RSSI of 45 you will be able to use MCS 15 reliably. At a hardware RSSI of 35 you should be able use 54 Mbps reliably. MCS 7 is the highets MCS index usable by a 1-stream device. MCS 15 is the highest MCS index usable by a 2-stream device. All ath9k devices are either 1-stream or 2-stream. How many bars you see is derived from the qual reporting. A more elaborate scheme can be used here but it requires tables of SNR/throughput for each possible mode used. For the MCS table you can refer to the wireless wiki: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/developers/Documentation/ieee80211/802.11n This should fix this bug report: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13537 Cc: Janath.Peiris@atheros.com Cc: Matt.Smith@atheros.com Signed-off-by: Luis R. 2009-07-10mac80211: push rx status into skb->cbJohannes Berg3-7/+15
Within mac80211, we often need to copy the rx status into skb->cb. This is wasteful, as drivers could be building it in there to start with. This patch changes the API so that drivers are expected to pass the RX status in skb->cb, now accessible as IEEE80211_SKB_RXCB(skb). It also updates all drivers to pass the rx status in there, but only by making them memcpy() it into place before the call to the receive function (ieee80211_rx(_irqsafe)). Each driver can now be optimised on its own schedule. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>

2009-07-08Atheros Kconfig needs to be dependent on WLAN_80211Jay Sternberg1-0/+1
Atheros top level menu needs a "depends WLAN_80211" to properly indent within menuconfig and xconfig interfaces. This is purely a visual issue but it effects all subsequent drivers. The issue is the top level menu does not include a dependency on WLAN_80211 so within the tree structure, Atheros is at the same level as WLAN_80211 but when WLAN_80211 collapsed, the menu disappears along with all subsequent drives, so it is really a subordinate. 2009-07-07ath9k: Fix leak in tx descriptorVasanthakumar Thiagarajan1-1/+8
When we reclaim the tx desc, we always assume that the last desc is a holding desc, which is not true, and skip it. If the tx queue is drained during channel change, internal reset and etc, the last descriptor may not be the holding descriptor and we fail to reclaim them. This results in the following two issues. 1. Tx stuck - We drop all the frames coming from upper layer due to shortage in tx desc. 2. Crash - If we fail to reclaim a tx descriptor, we miss to update the tx BA window with the seq number of the frame associated to that desc, which, at some point, result in the following crash due to an assert failure in ath_tx_addto_baw(). This patch fixes these two issues. kernel BUG at ../drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/xmit.c:180! 2009-06-19ath9k: Fix PCI FATAL interrupts by restoring RETRY_TIMEOUT disablingJouni Malinen1-0/+18
An earlier commit, 'ath9k: remove dummy PCI "retry timeout" fix', removed code that was documented to disable RETRY_TIMEOUT register (PCI reg 0x41) since it was claimed to be a no-op. However, it turns out that there are some combinations of hosts and ath9k-supported cards for which this is not a no-op (reg 0x41 has value 0x80, not 0) and this code (or something similar) is needed. In such cases, the driver may be next to unusable due to very frequent PCI FATAL interrupts from the card. Reverting the earlier commit, i.e., restoring the RETRY_TIMEOUT disabling, seems to resolve the issue. Since the removal of this code was not based on any known issue and was purely a cleanup change, the safest option here is to just revert that commit. Should there be desire to clean this up in the future, the change will need to be tested with a more complete coverage of cards and host systems. http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13483 Cc: stable@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jouni Malinen <jouni.malinen@atheros.com> Signed-off-by: John W. 2009-06-15ath5k: fix mesh beaconingNick Kossifidis1-2/+3
This patch is from Nick Kossifidis but he forgot to send it. It ensures that the beacon queue gets started in mesh mode as well, otherwise ath5k will not beacon in mesh point mode. At this time, we still need to issue a scan before mesh beaconing will work but that appears to be a separate problem. 2009-06-10ath5k: minor rfkill cleanupBob Copeland6-26/+8
Always enable rfkill since the ifdefs in the code is not really worth the Kconfig option. Also fix a few code style things, and remove the usage of the ah_gpio[] array so we can remove it later. 2009-06-10ath9k: Fix tx stuck when connected to aggr disabled HT APVasanthakumar Thiagarajan1-0/+1
This patch along with my previous patch in mac80211 "Fix the way ADDBA count..", fixes hang in tx when connected to an HT AP which rejects/times out on addba req. AGGR_ADDBA_PROGRESS should be cleared in aggr state when addba negotiation is terminated due to either addba response is timed out or addba is denied by the AP. With out clearing this bit, all frames are queued onto s/w queue for getting tx'd as aggr and will never be scheduled onto hw queue. 2009-06-10ath5k: added cfg80211 based rfkill supportTobias Doerffel7-17/+163
This patch introduces initial rfkill support for the ath5k driver based on rfkill support in the cfg80211 framework. All rfkill related code is separated into newly created rfkill.c. Changes to existing code are minimal: * added a new data structure ath5k_rfkill to the ath5k_softc structure * inserted calls to HW rfkill init/deinit routines * ath5k_intr() has been extended to handle AR5K_INT_GPIO interrupts Signed-off-by: John W.
