2013-02-14s390/cio: handle unknown pgroup stateSebastian Ott1-3/+61
When an attempt to query or modify the grouping state of a channel path fails due to a timeout, we cannot be sure about its state. To get back to a defined state, disband the whole path group and try again while excluding the offending path. Reviewed-by: Peter Oberparleiter <peter.oberparleiter@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2013-02-14s390/cio: skip broken pathsSebastian Ott1-5/+6
Omit known to be broken paths (those set in path_noirq_mask) for the sense/set PGID and nop IO commands. Note: path_noirq_mask will be reset in ccw_device_verify_start (the paths could be healthy again). However if we restart a path verification via verify_start this mask will not be reset (there is no need to let the wait for an interrupt time out again - plus we do not want to loop once we deal with the paths in unknown path group state). Reviewed-by: Peter Oberparleiter <peter.oberparleiter@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2013-02-14s390/cio: dont abort verification after missing irqSebastian Ott1-10/+38
Do not abort path verification when waiting for an interrupt timed out. Use path_noirq_mask to keep track of the paths used for this (also maintain a path_notoper_mask for debugging purposes). If the timeout happend to be during an operation where we query or alter the state of path groups set the pgid_unknown flag. With this change we allow usage of devices which have such ill-behaved paths (if at least one path is operational). 2012-12-03s390/cio: fix pgid reserved checkSebastian Ott1-5/+5
The check to whom a device is reserved is done by checking the path state of the affected channel paths. If it turns out that one path is flagged as reserved by someone else the whole device is marked as such. However the meaning of the RESVD_ELSE bit is that the addressed device is reserved to a different pathgroup (and not reserved to a different LPAR). If we do this test on a path which is currently not a member of the pathgroup we could erroneously mark the device as reserved to someone else. To fix this collect the reserved state for all potential members of the pathgroup and only mark the device as reserved if all of those potential members have the RESVD_ELSE bit set. 2012-07-20s390/comments: unify copyright messages and remove file namesHeiko Carstens1-1/+1
Remove the file name from the comment at top of many files. In most cases the file name was wrong anyway, so it's rather pointless. Also unify the IBM copyright statement. We did have a lot of sightly different statements and wanted to change them one after another whenever a file gets touched. However that never happened. Instead people start to take the old/"wrong" statements to use as a template for new files. So unify all of them in one go. Signed-off-by: Heiko Carstens <heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com>
2010-10-25[S390] cio: notify drivers of channel path eventsSebastian Ott1-6/+17
This patch adds a notification mechanism to inform ccw drivers about changes to channel paths, which occured while the device is online. Signed-off-by: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2010-08-09[S390] cio: use all available paths for some internal I/OSebastian Ott1-1/+0
Use all available paths for the SENSE ID and STLCK commands. This prevents deadlocks in conjunction with reserved devices. Signed-off-by: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2010-08-09[S390] ccwreq: add ability to use all pathsSebastian Ott1-0/+4
Change the ccwrequest infrastructure to use more than one channel path per start I/O. A flag "singlepath" is added to struct ccw_request - if set, the old behavior is used. This flag is set for all exploiters of the ccwrequest infrastructure - so there is no functional change through this patch. 2009-12-18[S390] cio: fix channel path varyPeter Oberparleiter1-11/+18
Channel path vary is currently broken: channel paths which are varied offline are still used by Linux. The reason for this is that: * the path mask indicating which paths of an I/O device can be used is reset by each internal I/O request * the logic that checks if a path group is already in its designated target state incorrectly interprets the result "is correctly set" as "is correctly set and available" Fix this by resetting the path mask only for internal I/O requests which affect the path mask and by correcting the pgid check logic. 2009-12-07[S390] cio: improve error recovery for internal I/OsPeter Oberparleiter1-1/+1
Improve error recovery for internal I/Os by repeating each I/O 256 times per path to cope with long-running non-permanent error conditions. Also retry each path twice to cope with link flapping, i.e. single paths becoming unavailable in the order in which they are tried. 2009-12-07[S390] cio: use sense-pgid operation for path verificationPeter Oberparleiter1-53/+95
Set-pgid operations fail for some device types under z/VM for which the hypervisor has already set the pgid. Also reserved devices or changed pgids are not correctly recognized. Fix these problems by using a combination of sense-pgid and set-pgid and by also accepting pre-defined pgid settings. 2008-12-25[S390] cio: introduce cio_update_schibSebastian Ott1-1/+1
There is the chance that we get condition code 0 for a stsch but the resulting schib is not vaild. In the current code there are 2 cases: * we do a check for validity of the schib after stsch, but at this time we have already stored the invaild schib in the subchannel structure. This may lead to problems. * we don't do a check for validity, which is not that good either. The patch addresses both issues by introducing the stsch wrapper cio_update_schib which performs stsch on a local schib. This schib is only written back to the subchannel if it's valid. side note: For some functions (chp_events) the return codes are different now (-ENXIO vs -ENODEV) but this shouldn't do harm since the caller doesn't check for _specific_ errors. 2006-10-04[S390] Add timeouts during sense PGID, path verification and disband PGID.Cornelia Huck1-0/+8

2006-09-20[S390] cio: always query all paths on path verification.Peter Oberparleiter1-39/+42
Reappearing channel paths are sometimes not utilized by CCW devices because path verification incorrectly relies on path-operational-mask information which is not updated until a channel path has been used again. Modify path verification procedure to always query all available paths to a device. 2006-08-30[S390] cio: unsolicited interrupts during sense pgid.Stefan Bader1-6/+21

2006-07-12[S390] path grouping and path verifications fixes.Cornelia Huck1-23/+99
1. Multipath devices for which SetPGID is not supported are not handled well. Use NOP ccws for path verification (sans path grouping) when SetPGID is not supported. 2. Check for PGIDs already set with SensePGID on _all_ paths (not just the first one) and try to find a common one. Moan if no common PGID can be found (and use NOP verification). If no PGIDs have been set, use the css global PGID (as before). (Rationale: SetPGID will get a command reject if the PGID it tries to set does not match the already set PGID.) 3. Immediately before reboot, issue RESET CHANNEL PATH (rcp) on all chpids. This will remove the old PGIDs. rcp will generate solicited CRWs which can be savely ignored by the machine check handler (all other actions create unsolicited CRWs). Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
