Extract state changes from port lock sections, as this usage is broken and confused; the state transitions are protected by the tty lock (which mutually excludes parallel open/close/hangup), and no user tests the active state while holding the port lock. 2016-01-27tty: Remove chars_in_buffer() line discipline methodPeter Hurley1-4/+2
The chars_in_buffer() line discipline method serves no functional purpose, other than as a (dubious) debugging aid for mostly bit-rotting drivers. Despite being documented as an optional method, every caller is unconditionally executed (although conditionally compiled). Furthermore, direct tty->ldisc access without an ldisc ref is unsafe. tty_name no longer uses the buf parameter, so remove it along with all the 64 byte stack buffers that used to be passed in. Mostly generated by the coccinelle script @depends on patch@ identifier buf; constant C; expression tty; @@ - char buf[C]; <+... - tty_name(tty, buf) + tty_name(tty) ...+> allmodconfig compiles, so I'm fairly confident the stack buffers weren't used for other purposes as well. 2014-01-07tty/amiserial: avoid interruptible_sleep_onArnd Bergmann1-8/+18
interruptible_sleep_on is generally problematic and we want to get rid of it. In case of TIOCMIWAIT, that race is actually in user space and does not get fixed since we can only detect changes after entering the ioctl handler, but it removes one more caller. This instance can not be trivially replaced with wait_event, so I chose to open-code the wait loop using prepare_to_wait/finish_wait. hardpps() functionality is provided through the N_PPS line discipline now. The new function signature was added in commit 025b40ab (2011-01-12). There was no previous macro or function hardpps(), at least since before the initial commit of v2.6.12 in 2005. It's unlikely this code has been compiled since. Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more tty_port_tty_get in those paths. Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed: tty_flip_buffer_push. IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get at all yet. Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h to include/linux/tty_flip.h to all others while we are changing it anyway. 2012-11-15TTY: call tty_port_destroy in the rest of driversJiri Slaby1-0/+2
After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this assumption. To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places. This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed. This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places. Do not copy whole serial_state. We only need to know whether the speed is to be changed. Hence store the info in advance and use it later. A simple bool is enough. Also remove reduntant assignments and move the tests directly to the 'if'. This is the final step to get rid of the one of the structures. A further cleanup will follow. And I struct serial_state deserves cease to exist after a switch to tty_port too. While changing the lines, it removes also pointless tty->driver_data casts. 2012-03-08TTY: amiserial, remove IRQ_portsJiri Slaby1-13/+5
They used to work as a storage for 'info' pointer used in ISRs. They are not really needed. Just pass the pointer through request_irq to the handlers. It was set to NULL and tested in the ISRs, but we do not need the tests as we disable all the interrupts at the same places where NULL sets were.
