2014-06-06xfs: introduce directory geometry structureDave Chinner1-0/+1
The directory code has a dependency on the struct xfs_mount to supply the directory block geometry. Block size, block log size, and other parameters are pre-caclulated in the struct xfs_mount or access directly from the superblock embedded in the struct xfs_mount. Extract all of this geometry information out of the struct xfs_mount and superblock and place it into a new struct xfs_da_geometry defined by the directory code. Allocate and initialise it at mount time, and attach it to the struct xfs_mount so it canbe passed back into the directory code appropriately rather than using the struct xfs_mount. 2014-05-06xfs: remote attribute overwrite causes transaction overrunDave Chinner1-1/+23
Commit e461fcb ("xfs: remote attribute lookups require the value length") passes the remote attribute length in the xfs_da_args structure on lookup so that CRC calculations and validity checking can be performed correctly by related code. This, unfortunately has the side effect of changing the args->valuelen parameter in cases where it shouldn't. That is, when we replace a remote attribute, the incoming replacement stores the value and length in args->value and args->valuelen, but then the lookup which finds the existing remote attribute overwrites args->valuelen with the length of the remote attribute being replaced. Hence when we go to create the new attribute, we create it of the size of the existing remote attribute, not the size it is supposed to be. When the new attribute is much smaller than the old attribute, this results in a transaction overrun and an ASSERT() failure on a debug kernel: XFS: Assertion failed: tp->t_blk_res_used <= tp->t_blk_res, file: fs/xfs/xfs_trans.c, line: 331 Fix this by keeping the remote attribute value length separate to the attribute value length in the xfs_da_args structure. The enables us to pass the length of the remote attribute to be removed without overwriting the new attribute's length. Also, ensure that when we save remote block contexts for a later rename we zero the original state variables so that we don't confuse the state of the attribute to be removes with the state of the new attribute that we just added. 2013-10-23xfs: decouple inode and bmap btree header filesDave Chinner1-2/+2
Currently the xfs_inode.h header has a dependency on the definition of the BMAP btree records as the inode fork includes an array of xfs_bmbt_rec_host_t objects in it's definition. Move all the btree format definitions from xfs_btree.h, xfs_bmap_btree.h, xfs_alloc_btree.h and xfs_ialloc_btree.h to xfs_format.h to continue the process of centralising the on-disk format definitions. With this done, the xfs inode definitions are no longer dependent on btree header files. The enables a massive culling of unnecessary includes, with close to 200 #include directives removed from the XFS kernel code base. 2013-10-23xfs: decouple log and transaction headersDave Chinner1-4/+4
xfs_trans.h has a dependency on xfs_log.h for a couple of structures. Most code that does transactions doesn't need to know anything about the log, but this dependency means that they have to include xfs_log.h. Decouple the xfs_trans.h and xfs_log.h header files and clean up the includes to be in dependency order. In doing this, remove the direct include of xfs_trans_reserve.h from xfs_trans.h so that we remove the dependency between xfs_trans.h and xfs_mount.h. Hence the xfs_trans.h include can be moved to the indicate the actual dependencies other header files have on it. Note that these are kernel only header files, so this does not translate to any userspace changes at all. All of the buffer operations structures are needed to be exported for xfs_db, so move them all to a common location rather than spreading them all over the place. They are verifying the on-disk format, so while xfs_format.h might be a good place, it is not part of the on disk format. Hence we need to create a new header file that we centralise these related definitions. Start by moving the bffer operations structures, and then also move all the other definitions that have crept into xfs_log_format.h and xfs_format.h as there was no other shared header file to put them in. xfs_attr_node_addname()'s error handling tests whether it should free "state" in the out: error handling label: out: if (state) xfs_da_state_free(state); but an earlier free doesn't set state to NULL afterwards; this could lead to a double free. 2013-08-12xfs: kill xfs_vnodeops.[ch]Dave Chinner1-1/+0
Now we have xfs_inode.c for holding kernel-only XFS inode operations, move all the inode operations from xfs_vnodeops.c to this new file as it holds another set of kernel-only inode operations. The name of this file traces back to the days of Irix and it's vnodes which we don't have anymore. Essentially this move consolidates the inode locking functions and a bunch of XFS inode operations into the one file. Eventually the high level functions will be merged into the VFS interface functions in xfs_iops.c. This leaves only internal preallocation, EOF block manipulation and hole punching functions in vnodeops.c. Move these to xfs_bmap_util.c where we are already consolidating various in-kernel physical extent manipulation and querying functions. 2013-08-12xfs: create xfs_bmap_util.[ch]Dave Chinner1-0/+1
There is a bunch of code in xfs_bmap.c that is kernel specific and not shared with userspace. To minimise the difference between the kernel and userspace code, shift this unshared code to xfs_bmap_util.c, and the declarations to xfs_bmap_util.h. The biggest issue here is xfs_bmap_finish() - userspace has it's own definition of this function, and so we need to move it out of xfs_bmap.[ch]. This means several other files need to include xfs_bmap_util.h as well. It also introduces and interesting dance for the stack switching code in xfs_bmapi_allocate(). The stack switching/workqueue code is actually moved to xfs_bmap_util.c, so that userspace can simply use a #define in a header file to connect the dots without needing to know about the stack switch code at all. 2013-02-01xfs: refactor space log reservation for XFS_TRANS_ATTR_SETJeff Liu1-3/+6
Currently, we calculate the attribute set transaction log space reservation at runtime in two parts: 1) XFS_ATTRSET_LOG_RES() which is calcuated out at mount time. 2) ((ext * (mp)->m_sb.sb_sectsize) + \ (ext * XFS_FSB_TO_B((mp), XFS_BM_MAXLEVELS(mp, XFS_ATTR_FORK))) + \ (128 * (ext + (ext * XFS_BM_MAXLEVELS(mp, XFS_ATTR_FORK)))))) which is calculated out at runtime since it depend on the given extent length in blocks. This patch renamed XFS_ATTRSET_LOG_RES(mp) to XFS_ATTRSETM_LOG_RES(mp) to indicate that it is figured out at mount time. Introduce XFS_ATTRSETRT_LOG_RES(mp) which would be used to calculate out the unit of the log space reservation for one block. 2012-11-15xfs: make buffer read verication an IO completion functionDave Chinner1-1/+1
Add a verifier function callback capability to the buffer read interfaces. This will be used by the callers to supply a function that verifies the contents of the buffer when it is read from disk. This patch does not provide callback functions, but simply modifies the interfaces to allow them to be called. The reason for adding this to the read interfaces is that it is very difficult to tell fom the outside is a buffer was just read from disk or whether we just pulled it out of cache. Supplying a callbck allows the buffer cache to use it's internal knowledge of the buffer to execute it only when the buffer is read from disk. It is intended that the verifier functions will mark the buffer with an EFSCORRUPTED error when verification fails. This allows the reading context to distinguish a verification error from an IO error, and potentially take further actions on the buffer (e.g. attempt repair) based on the error reported. 2012-05-14xfs: kill XBF_DONTBLOCKDave Chinner1-2/+1
Just about all callers of xfs_buf_read() and xfs_buf_get() use XBF_DONTBLOCK. This is used to make memory allocation use GFP_NOFS rather than GFP_KERNEL to avoid recursion through memory reclaim back into the filesystem. All the blocking get calls in growfs occur inside a transaction, even though they are no part of the transaction, so all allocation will be GFP_NOFS due to the task flag PF_TRANS being set. The blocking read calls occur during log recovery, so they will probably be unaffected by converting to GFP_NOFS allocations. Hence make XBF_DONTBLOCK behaviour always occur for buffers and kill the flag. xfs_read_buf() is effectively the same as xfs_trans_read_buf() when called outside a transaction context. The error handling is slightly different in that xfs_read_buf stales the errored buffer it gets back, but there is probably good reason for xfs_trans_read_buf() for doing this. Hence update xfs_trans_read_buf() to the same error handling as xfs_read_buf(), and convert all the callers of xfs_read_buf() to use the former function. We can then remove xfs_read_buf(). 2012-05-14xfs: use blocks for counting length of buffersDave Chinner1-6/+9
Now that we pass block counts everywhere, and index buffers by block number, track the length of the buffer in units of blocks rather than bytes. Convert the code to use block counts, and those that need byte counts get converted at the time of use. Also, remove the XFS_BUF_{SET_}SIZE() macros that are just wrappers around the buffer length. They only serve to make the code shouty loud and don't actually add any real value. Around the call to xfs_itruncate_extents it does: - add tracing - add a few asserts in debug builds - conditionally update the inode size in two places - log the inode Both the tracing and the inode logging can be moved to xfs_itruncate_extents as they are useful for the attribute fork as well - in fact the attr code already does an equivalent xfs_trans_log_inode call just after calling xfs_itruncate_extents. The conditional size updates are a mess, and there was no reason to do them in two places anyway, as the first one was conditional on the inode having extents - but without extents we xfs_itruncate_extents would be a no-op and the placement wouldn't matter anyway. Instead move the size assignments and the asserts that make sense to the callers that want it. As a side effect of this clean up xfs_setattr_size by introducing variables for the old and new inode size, and moving the size updates into a common place. There is no reason to keep a reference to the inode even if we unlock it during transaction commit because we never drop a reference between the ijoin and commit. Also use this fact to merge xfs_trans_ijoin_ref back into xfs_trans_ijoin - the third argument decides if an unlock is needed now. I'm actually starting to wonder if allowing inodes to be unlocked at transaction commit really is worth the effort. The only real benefit is that they can be unlocked earlier when commiting a synchronous transactions, but that could be solved by doing the log force manually after the unlock, too. Now that all the read-only users of xfs_bmapi have been converted to use xfs_bmapi_read(), we can remove all the read-only handling cases from xfs_bmapi(). Once this is done, rename xfs_bmapi to xfs_bmapi_write to reflect the fact it is for allocation only. This enables us to kill the XFS_BMAPI_WRITE flag as well. 2011-10-11xfs: introduce xfs_bmapi_read()Dave Chinner1-19/+11
xfs_bmapi() currently handles both extent map reading and allocation. As a result, the code is littered with "if (wr)" branches to conditionally do allocation operations if required. This makes the code much harder to follow and causes significant indent issues with the code. Given that read mapping is much simpler than allocation, we can split out read mapping from xfs_bmapi() and reuse the logic that we have already factored out do do all the hard work of handling the extent map manipulations. The results in a much simpler function for the common extent read operations, and will allow the allocation code to be simplified in another commit. Once xfs_bmapi_read() is implemented, convert all the callers of xfs_bmapi() that are only reading extents to use the new function.
