2006-09-26[PATCH] Don't leak NT bit into next taskAndi Kleen1-2/+3
SYSENTER can cause a NT to be set which might cause crashes on the IRET in the next task. Following similar i386 patch from Linus. Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de>
2006-07-14[PATCH] remove set_wmb - arch removalSteven Rostedt1-1/+0
set_wmb should not be used in the kernel because it just confuses the code more and has no benefit. Since it is not currently used in the kernel this patch removes it so that new code does not include it. All archs define set_wmb(var, value) to do { var = value; wmb(); } while(0) except ia64 and sparc which use a mb() instead. But this is still moot since it is not used anyway. Hasn't been tested on any archs but x86 and x86_64 (and only compiled tested) Signed-off-by: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@goodmis.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-07-03[PATCH] lockdep: irqtrace subsystem, x86_64 supportIngo Molnar1-37/+1
Add irqflags-tracing support to x86_64. [akpm@osdl.org: build fix] Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Cc: Andi Kleen <ak@muc.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-06-26[PATCH] x86_64: x86_64 version of the smp alternative patch.Gerd Hoffmann1-83/+3
Changes are largely identical to the i386 version: * alternative #define are moved to the new alternative.h file. * one new elf section with pointers to the lock prefixes which can be nop'ed out for non-smp. * two new elf sections simliar to the "classic" alternatives to replace SMP code with simpler UP code. * fixup headers to use alternative.h instead of defining their own LOCK / LOCK_PREFIX macros. The patch reuses the i386 version of the alternatives code to avoid code duplication. The code in alternatives.c was shuffled around a bit to reduce the number of #ifdefs needed. It also got some tweaks needed for x86_64 (vsyscall page handling) and new features (noreplacement option which was x86_64 only up to now). Debug printk's are changed from compile-time to runtime. Loosely based on a early version from Bastian Blank <waldi@debian.org> Signed-off-by: Gerd Hoffmann <kraxel@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-03-25[PATCH] x86_64: eliminate set_debug()Jan Beulich1-6/+0
For consistency and to have only a single place of definition, replace set_debug() uses with set_debugreg(), and eliminate the definition of thj former. Signed-off-by: Jan Beulich <jbeulich@novell.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-02-05[PATCH] Fix "value computed is not used" compile warnings with gcc-4.1Takashi Iwai1-1/+1
Fix gcc4.1 compile warnings "value computed is not used" with set_current_state() and set_task_state() on i386/SMP and x86-64. 2006-01-16[PATCH] x86_64: Fix VSMP buildRavikiran G Thirumalai1-5/+5
Patch fixes a build problem with CONFIG_X86_VSMP. The vSMP bits probably gathered some fuzz on its way to mainline, and safe_halt() which was outside the #endif (CONFIG_X86_VSMP) somehow got inside the !CONFIG_X86_VSMP condition, hence being undefined and breaking CONFIG_X86_VSMP builds. Patch takes safe_halt() and halt() macros out of the #endif Signed-off-by: Ravikiran Thirumalai <kiran@scalex86.org> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-01-12[PATCH] sched: add cacheflush() asmIngo Molnar1-0/+9
Add per-arch sched_cacheflush() which is a write-back cacheflush used by the migration-cost calibration code at bootup time. 2006-01-11[PATCH] x86_64: Inclusion of ScaleMP vSMP architecture patches - vsmp_archRavikiran G Thirumalai1-0/+18
Introduce vSMP arch to the kernel. This patch: 1. Adds CONFIG_X86_VSMP 2. Adds machine specific macros for local_irq_disabled, local_irq_enabled and irqs_disabled 3. Writes to the vSMP CTL device to indicate kernel compiled with CONFIG_VSMP Signed-off-by: Ravikiran Thirumalai <kiran@scalemp.com> Signed-off-by: Shai Fultheim <shai@scalemp.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-01-11[PATCH] x86_64: don't save eflags in x86-64 switch_to()Benjamin LaHaise1-2/+2
As discussed, the flags register on x86-64 is saved and restored by the assembly code which sets up struct pt_regs, so we do not need to save and restore it in the inline assembler which already informs gcc that we're clobbering the flags. This patch has been sanity booted and works okay here. 2006-01-11[PATCH] x86_64: Remove enable/disable_hltAndi Kleen1-7/+0

2006-01-06[PATCH] cpu hotplug/x86_64: disable interrupt in play_deadShaohua Li1-0/+2
With physical CPU hotplug, the CPU is hot removed and it should not receive any interrupts. Disabling interrupt is much safer. This basically is what we do in ia64 & x86. 2005-09-12[PATCH] x86-64: Lose constraints on cmpxchgJan Beulich1-3/+3
While only cosmetic for x86-64, this adjusts the cmpxchg code appearantly inherited from i386 to use more generic constraints. Signed-off-by: Jan Beulich <jbeulich@novell.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
