All architectures now use the generic compat_sys_ptrace, as should every new architecture that needs 32bit compat (if we'll ever get another). Remove the now superflous __ARCH_WANT_COMPAT_SYS_PTRACE define, and also kill a comment about __ARCH_SYS_PTRACE that was added after __ARCH_SYS_PTRACE was already gone. Nothing arch specific in get/settimeofday. The details of the timeval conversion varied a little from arch to arch, but all with the same results. Also add an extern declaration for sys_tz to linux/time.h because externs in .c files are fowned upon. I'll kill the externs in various other files in a sparate patch. struct stat / compat_stat is the same on all architectures, so cp_compat_stat should be, too. Turns out it is, except that various architectures have slightly and some high2lowuid/high2lowgid or the direct assignment instead of the SET_UID/SET_GID that expands to the correct one anyway. 2008-02-05timerfd: new timerfd APIDavide Libenzi1-2/+5
This is the new timerfd API as it is implemented by the following patch: int timerfd_create(int clockid, int flags); int timerfd_settime(int ufd, int flags, const struct itimerspec *utmr, struct itimerspec *otmr); int timerfd_gettime(int ufd, struct itimerspec *otmr); The timerfd_create() API creates an un-programmed timerfd fd. The "clockid" parameter can be either CLOCK_MONOTONIC or CLOCK_REALTIME. The timerfd_settime() API give new settings by the timerfd fd, by optionally retrieving the previous expiration time (in case the "otmr" parameter is not NULL). The time value specified in "utmr" is absolute, if the TFD_TIMER_ABSTIME bit is set in the "flags" parameter. Otherwise it's a relative time. The timerfd_gettime() API returns the next expiration time of the timer, or {0, 0} if the timerfd has not been set yet. Like the previous timerfd API implementation, read(2) and poll(2) are supported (with the same interface). 2007-03-08[PATCH] Add epoll compat_ code to fs/compat.cDavide Libenzi1-0/+19
IA64 and ARM-OABI are currently using their own version of epoll compat_ code. An architecture needs epoll_event translation if alignof(u64) in 32 bit mode is different from alignof(u64) in 64 bit mode. If an architecture needs epoll_event translation, it must define struct compat_epoll_event in asm/compat.h and set CONFIG_HAVE_COMPAT_EPOLL_EVENT and use compat_sys_epoll_ctl and compat_sys_epoll_wait. All 64 bit architecture should use compat_sys_epoll_pwait. Revert Andrew Morton's patch to temporarily hack around the lack of a declaration of sigset_t in linux/compat.h to make the block-disablement patches build on IA64. This got accidentally pushed to Linus and should be fixed in a different manner. Also make linux/compat.h #include asm/signal.h to gain a definition of sigset_t so that it can externally declare sigset_from_compat(). This has been compile-tested for i386, x86_64, ia64, mips, mips64, frv, ppc and ppc64 and run-tested on frv. With David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org> select() presently has a habit of increasing the value of the user's `timeout' argument on return. We were writing back a timeout larger than the original. We _deliberately_ round up, since we know we must wait at _least_ as long as the caller asks us to. The patch adds a couple of helper functions for magnitude comparison of timespecs and of timevals, and uses them to prevent the various poll and select functions from returning a timeout which is larger than the one which was passed in. The patch also fixes a bug in compat_sys_pselect7(): it was adding the new timeout value to the old one and was returning that. It should just return the new timeout value. (We have various handy timespec/timeval-to-from-nsec conversion functions in time.h. But this code open-codes it all). Cc: "David S. When I first wrote the compat layer patches, I was somewhat cavalier about the definition of compat_uid_t and compat_gid_t (or maybe I just misunderstood :-)). This patch makes the compat types much more consistent with the types we are being compatible with and hopefully will fix a few bugs along the way. compat type type in compat arch __compat_[ug]id_t __kernel_[ug]id_t __compat_[ug]id32_t __kernel_[ug]id32_t compat_[ug]id_t [ug]id_t The difference is that compat_uid_t is always 32 bits (for the archs we care about) but __compat_uid_t may be 16 bits on some. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
