2016-01-16include/linux/kdev_t.h: remove new_valid_dev()Yaowei Bai1-5/+0
As all new_valid_dev() checks have been removed it's time to drop new_valid_dev() itself. No functional change. 2015-11-09include/linux/kdev_t.h: old/new_valid_dev() can return boolYaowei Bai1-2/+2
Make old/new_valid_dev return bool due to these two particular functions only using either one or zero as their return value. No functional change. 2007-04-04[PATCH] remove protection of LANANA-reserved majorsAndrew Morton1-2/+0
Revert all this. It can cause device-mapper to receive a different major from earlier kernels and it turns out that the Amanda backup program (via GNU tar, apparently) checks major numbers on files when performing incremental backups. Which is a bit broken of Amanda (or tar), but this feature isn't important enough to justify the churn. 2007-02-20[PATCH] rework reserved major handlingAndrew Morton1-0/+1
Several people have reported failures in dynamic major device number handling due to the recent changes in there to avoid handing out the local/experimental majors. Rolf reports that this is due to a gcc-4.1.0 bug. The patch refactors that code a lot in an attempt to provoke the compiler into behaving. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
