2017-10-18ALSA: hda - Fix incorrect TLV callback check introduced during set_fs() removalTakashi Iwai1-0/+3
The commit 99b5c5bb9a54 ("ALSA: hda - Remove the use of set_fs()") converted the get_kctl_0dB_offset() call for killing set_fs() usage in HD-audio codec code. The conversion assumed that the TLV callback used in HD-audio code is only snd_hda_mixer_amp() and applies the TLV calculation locally. Although this assumption is correct, and all slave kctls are actually with that callback, the current code is still utterly buggy; it doesn't hit this condition and falls back to the next check. It's because the function gets called after adding slave kctls to vmaster. By assigning a slave kctl, the slave kctl object is faked inside vmaster code, and the whole kctl ops are overridden. Thus the callback op points to a different value from what we've assumed. More badly, as reported by the KERNEXEC and UDEREF features of PaX, the code flow turns into the unexpected pitfall. The next fallback check is SNDRV_CTL_ELEM_ACCESS_TLV_READ access bit, and this always hits for each kctl with TLV. Then it evaluates the callback function pointer wrongly as if it were a TLV array. Although currently its side-effect is fairly limited, this incorrect reference may lead to an unpleasant result. For addressing the regression, this patch introduces a new helper to vmaster code, snd_ctl_apply_vmaster_slaves(). This works similarly like the existing map_slaves() in hda_codec.c: it loops over the slave list of the given master, and applies the given function to each slave. Then the initializer function receives the right kctl object and we can compare the correct pointer instead of the faked one. Also, for catching the similar breakage in future, give an error message when the unexpected TLV callback is found and bail out immediately. 2017-10-09ALSA: seq: Fix copy_from_user() call inside lockTakashi Iwai1-0/+1
The event handler in the virmidi sequencer code takes a read-lock for the linked list traverse, while it's calling snd_seq_dump_var_event() in the loop. The latter function may expand the user-space data depending on the event type. It eventually invokes copy_from_user(), which might be a potential dead-lock. The sequencer core guarantees that the user-space data is passed only with atomic=0 argument, but snd_virmidi_dev_receive_event() ignores it and always takes read-lock(). For avoiding the problem above, this patch introduces rwsem for non-atomic case, while keeping rwlock for atomic case. Also while we're at it: the superfluous irq flags is dropped in snd_virmidi_input_open(). 2017-09-20ALSA: hda - program ICT bits to support HBR audioSriram Periyasamy1-0/+1
On recent Intel platforms (Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake, ApolloLake, KabyLake, ...), the IEC Coding Type (ICT) bitfield in the Digital Converter Control #3 needs to be set explicitly for HDMI/DisplayPort High Bit Rate (HBR) audio playback to work. This was not required in earlier platforms when HBR was first introduced. The ICT bits are defined in Section 7.3.3.9 of the HDaudio 1.0a specification. Since the ICT bitfield was not specified for HDAudio 1.0 devices (before 2009), we only program it on machines more recent than Haswell. We tested that this fix is not needed on Baytrail-I (MinnowBoard Turbot) and believe by extension it also does not apply to Braswell. Some CPU drivers (e. g. davinci-mcasp) may require the system clock to be configured as OUT, while there's no good way currently to set SND_SOC_CLK_OUT in simple-soc driver if the clock is fixed-rate. This patch makes asoc_simple_card_init_dai() initialize clock to SND_SOCK_CLK_OUT if explicitly stated in the relevant dts file. This change is transparent and doesn't change the default behavior. 2017-08-30ALSA: Get rid of card power_lockTakashi Iwai1-13/+0
Currently we're taking power_lock at each card component for assuring the power-up sequence, but it doesn't help anything in the implementation at the moment: it just serializes unnecessarily the callers, but it doesn't protect about the power state change itself. It used to have some usefulness in the early days where we managed the PM manually. But now the suspend/resume core procedure is beyond our hands, and power_lock lost its meaning. This patch drops the power_lock from allover the places. There shouldn't be any issues by this change, as it's no helper regarding the power state change. Rather we'll get better performance by removing the serialization; which is the only slight concern of any behavior change, but it can't be a showstopper, after all. 2017-08-10ASoC: soc-core: add snd_soc_rtdcom_xxx()Kuninori Morimoto1-0/+13
Current snd_soc_pcm_runtime has platform / codec pointers, and we could use these specific pointer. But these will be replaced to more generic "component" soon, and will need more generic method to get each connected component pointer from rtd. This patch adds new snd_soc_rtdcom_xxx() to connect/disconnect component to rtd. It means same as previous "platform" / "codec" pointer style, but more generic. We can find necessary component pointer from rtd by using component driver name on snd_soc_rtdcom_lookup(). Here, the reason why it uses "driver name" is that "component name" was created by fmt_single_name() and difficult to use it from driver. Driver of course knows its "driver name", thus, using it is more easy. TLV callback handlers in each driver has no risk from concurrent access for reference/change. 2017-07-17ASoC: fix pcm-creation regressionJohan Hovold1-6/+0
This reverts commit 99b04f4c4051 ("ASoC: add Component level pcm_new/pcm_free"), which started calling the pcm_new callback for every component in a *card* when creating a new pcm, something which does not seem to make any sense. This specifically led to memory leaks in systems with more than one platform component and where DMA memory is allocated in the platform-driver callback. For example, when both mcasp devices are being used on an am335x board, DMA memory would be allocated twice for every DAI link during probe. When CONFIG_SND_VERBOSE_PROCFS was set this fortunately also led to warnings such as: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 565 at ../fs/proc/generic.c:346 proc_register+0x110/0x154 proc_dir_entry 'sub0/prealloc' already registered Since there seems to be no users of the new component callbacks, and the current implementation introduced a regression, let's revert the offending commit for now. 2017-06-27ALSA: pcm: Add an ioctl to specify the supported protocol versionTakashi Iwai1-0/+1
We have an ioctl to inform the PCM protocol version the running kernel supports, but there is no way to know which protocol version the user-space can understand. This lack of information caused headaches in the past when we tried to extend the ABI. For example, because we couldn't guarantee the validity of the reserved bytes, we had to introduce a new ioctl SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS_EXT for assigning a few new fields in the formerly reserved bits. If we could know that it's a new alsa-lib, we could assume the availability of the new fields, thus we could have reused the existing SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS. In order to improve the ABI extensibility, this patch adds a new ioctl for user-space to inform its supporting protocol version to the kernel. By reporting the supported protocol from user-space, the kernel can judge which feature should be provided and which not. With the addition of the new ioctl, the PCM protocol version is bumped to 2.0.14, too. User-space checks the kernel protocol version via SNDRV_PCM_INFO_PVERSION, then it sets the supported version back via SNDRV_PCM_INFO_USER_PVERSION.
