When userspace, e.g. conntrackd, inserts an entry with a specified helper,
its possible that the helper is lost immediately after its added:
ctnetlink_create_conntrack
-> nf_ct_helper_ext_add + assign helper
-> ctnetlink_setup_nat
-> ctnetlink_parse_nat_setup
-> parse_nat_setup -> nfnetlink_parse_nat_setup
-> nf_nat_setup_info
-> nf_conntrack_alter_reply
-> __nf_ct_try_assign_helper
... and __nf_ct_try_assign_helper will zero the helper again.
Set IPS_HELPER bit to bypass auto-assign logic, its unwanted, just like
when helper is assigned via ruleset.
Dropped old 'not strictly necessary' comment, it referred to use of
rcu_assign_pointer() before it got replaced by RCU_INIT_POINTER().
NB: Fixes tag intentionally incorrect, this extends the referenced commit,
but this change won't build without IPS_HELPER introduced there.

Allow to match and mangle on inner headers / payload data after the

stores the inner header offset which is calculated only when requested.

Generalize NFT_META_IIFTYPE to NFT_META_IFTYPE which allows you to match
on the interface type of the skb->dev field. This field is used by the
netdev family to add an implicit dependency to skip non-ethernet packets
when matching on layer 3 and 4 TCP/IP header fields.
For backward compatibility, add the NFT_META_IIFTYPE alias to
NFT_META_IFTYPE.
Add __NFT_META_IIFTYPE, to be used by userspace in the future to match
specifically on the iiftype.

Also add a stat counter for this that gets exported both via old /proc
interface and ctnetlink.
Assuming the old default size of 16536 buckets and max hash occupancy of
64k, this results in 128k insertions (origin+reply), so ~8 entries per
chain on average.
The revised settings in this series will result in about two entries per
bucket on average.
This allows a hard-limit ceiling of 64.
This is not tunable at the moment, but its possible to either increase
nf_conntrack_buckets or decrease nf_conntrack_max to reduce average
lengths.

The family is relevant for pseudo-families like NFPROTO_INET
otherwise the user needs to rely on the hook function name to
differentiate it from NFPROTO_IPV4 and NFPROTO_IPV6 names.
Add nfnl_hook_chain_desc_attributes instead of using the existing

If CTA_STATUS is present, but CTA_STATUS_MASK is not, then the
mask is automatically set to 'status', so that kernel returns those
entries that have all of the requested bits set.
This makes more sense than using a all-one mask since we'd hardly
ever find a match.
There are no other checks for status bits, so if e.g. userspace
sets impossible combinations it will get an empty dump.
If kernel would reject unknown status bits, then a program that works on
a future kernel that has IPS_FOO bit fails on old kernels.
Same for 'impossible' combinations:
Kernel never sets ASSURED without first having set SEEN_REPLY, but its
possible that a future kernel could do so.
Therefore no sanity tests other than a 0-mask.

Chunks are SCTP header extensions similar in implementation to IPv6
extension headers or TCP options. Reusing exthdr expression to find and
extract field values from them is therefore pretty straightforward.
For now, this supports extracting data from chunks at a fixed offset
(and length) only - chunks themselves are an extensible data structure;
in order to make all fields available, a nested extension search is
needed.

This patch extends the set infrastructure to add a special catch-all set
element. If the lookup fails to find an element (or range) in the set,
then the catch-all element is selected. Users can specify a mapping,
expression(s) and timeout to be attached to the catch-all element.
This patch adds a catchall list to the set, this list might contain more
than one single catch-all element (e.g. in case that the catch-all
element is removed and a new one is added in the same transaction).
However, most of the time, there will be either one element or no
elements at all in this list.
The catch-all element is identified via NFT_SET_ELEM_CATCHALL flag and
such special element has no NFTA_SET_ELEM_KEY attribute. There is a new
nft_set_elem_catchall object that stores a reference to the dummy
catch-all element (catchall->elem) whose layout is the same of the set
element type to reuse the existing set element codebase.
The set size does not apply to the catch-all element, users can define a
catch-all element even if the set is full.
The check for valid set element flags hava been updates to report
EOPNOTSUPP in case userspace requests flags that are not supported when
using new userspace nftables and old kernel.

A userspace daemon like firewalld might need to monitor for netlink
updates to detect its ruleset removal by the (global) flush ruleset
command to ensure ruleset persistency. This adds extra complexity from
userspace and, for some little time, the firewall policy is not in
place.
This patch adds the NFT_TABLE_F_OWNER flag which allows a userspace
program to own the table that creates in exclusivity.
Tables that are owned...
- can only be updated and removed by the owner, non-owners hit EPERM if
they try to update it or remove it.
- are destroyed when the owner closes the netlink socket or the process
is gone (implicit netlink socket closure).
- are skipped by the global flush ruleset command.
- are listed in the global ruleset.
The userspace process that sets on the NFT_TABLE_F_OWNER flag need to
leave open the netlink socket.
A new NFTA_TABLE_OWNER netlink attribute specifies the netlink port ID
to identify the owner from userspace.
This patch also updates error reporting when an unknown table flag is
specified to change it from EINVAL to EOPNOTSUPP given that EINVAL is
usually reserved to report for malformed netlink messages to userspace.

The set flag NFT_SET_EXPR provides a hint to the kernel that userspace
supports for multiple expressions per set element. In the same
direction, NFT_DYNSET_F_EXPR specifies that dynset expression defines
multiple expressions per set element.
This allows new userspace software with old kernels to bail out with
EOPNOTSUPP. This update is similar to ef516e8625dd ("netfilter:
nf_tables: reintroduce the NFT_SET_CONCAT flag"). The NFT_SET_EXPR flag
needs to be set on when the NFTA_SET_EXPRESSIONS attribute is specified.
The NFT_SET_EXPR flag is not set on with NFTA_SET_EXPR to retain
backward compatibility in old userspace binaries.

This patch adds three new netlink attributes to encapsulate a list of
expressions per set elements:
- NFTA_SET_EXPRESSIONS: this attribute provides the set definition in
terms of expressions. New set elements get attached the list of
expressions that is specified by this new netlink attribute.
- NFTA_SET_ELEM_EXPRESSIONS: this attribute allows users to restore (or
initialize) the stateful information of set elements when adding an
element to the set.
- NFTA_DYNSET_EXPRESSIONS: this attribute specifies the list of
expressions that the set element gets when it is inserted from the
packet path.

nftables payload statements are used to mangle SCTP headers, but they can
only replace the Internet Checksum. As a consequence, nftables rules that
mangle sport/dport/vtag in SCTP headers potentially generate packets that
are discarded by the receiver, unless the CRC-32C is "offloaded" (e.g the
rule mangles a skb having 'ip_summed' equal to 'CHECKSUM_PARTIAL'.
Fix this extending uAPI definitions and L4 checksum update function, in a
way that userspace programs (e.g. nft) can instruct the kernel to compute
CRC-32C in SCTP headers. Also ensure that LIBCRC32C is built if NF_TABLES
is 'y' or 'm' in the kernel build configuration.

There is a misconception about what "insert_failed" means.
We increment this even when a clash got resolved, so it might not indicate
a problem.
Add a dedicated counter for clash resolution and only increment
insert_failed if a clash cannot be resolved.
For the old /proc interface, export this in place of an older stat
that got removed a while back.
For ctnetlink, export this with a new attribute.

This counter increments when nf_conntrack_in sees a packet that already

Neither is an error.
The former is normal for loopback traffic. The second happens for
certain ICMPv6 packets or when nftables/ip(6)tables rules are in place.

Conntrack dump does not support kernel side filtering (only get exists,
but it returns only one entry. And user has to give a full valid tuple)
It means that userspace has to implement filtering after receiving many
irrelevant entries, consuming resources (conntrack table is sometimes
very huge, much more than a routing table for example).
This patch adds filtering in kernel side. To achieve this goal, we:
* Add a new CTA_FILTER netlink attributes, actually a flag list to
parametize filtering
* Convert some *nlattr_to_tuple() functions, to allow a partial parsing
of CTA_TUPLE_ORIG and CTA_TUPLE_REPLY (so nf_conntrack_tuple it not
fully set)
Filtering is now possible on:
* IP SRC/DST values
* Ports for TCP and UDP flows
* IMCP(v6) codes types and IDs
Filtering is done as an "AND" operator. For example, when flags
PROTO_SRC_PORT, PROTO_NUM and IP_SRC are sets, only entries matching all
values are dumped.
Changes since v1:
Set NLM_F_DUMP_FILTERED in nlm flags if entries are filtered
Changes since v2:

This patch allows you to NAT the network address prefix onto another
network address prefix, a.k.a. netmapping.
Userspace must specify the NF_NAT_RANGE_NETMAP flag and the prefix
address through the NFTA_NAT_REG_ADDR_MIN and NFTA_NAT_REG_ADDR_MAX
netlink attributes.

This bit indicates that the conntrack entry is offloaded to hardware
flow table. nf_conntrack entry will be tagged with [HW_OFFLOAD] if
it's offload to hardware.
cat /proc/net/nf_conntrack
ipv4 2 tcp 6 \
src=1.1.1.17 dst=1.1.1.16 sport=56394 dport=5001 \
src=1.1.1.16 dst=1.1.1.17 sport=5001 dport=56394 [HW_OFFLOAD] \
mark=0 zone=0 use=3
Note that HW_OFFLOAD/OFFLOAD/ASSURED are mutually exclusive.

* V1->V2:
- Remove check of lastused from stats. It was meant for cases such
as removing driver module while traffic still running. Better to
handle such cases from garbage collector.

Stefano originally proposed to introduce this flag, users hit EOPNOTSUPP
in new binaries with old kernels when defining a set with ranges in
a concatenation.

Android has long had an extension to IDLETIMER to send netlink
messages to userspace, see:
https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/+/refs/heads/android-mainline/include/uapi/linux/netfilter/xt_IDLETIMER.h#42
Note: this is idletimer target rev 1, there is no rev 0 in
the Android common kernel sources, see registration at:
https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/+/refs/heads/android-mainline/net/netfilter/xt_IDLETIMER.c#483
When we compare that to upstream's new idletimer target rev 1:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pablo/nf-next.git/tree/include/uapi/linux/netfilter/xt_IDLETIMER.h#n46
We immediately notice that these two rev 1 structs are the
same size and layout, and that while timer_type and send_nl_msg
are differently named and serve a different purpose, they're
at the same offset.
This makes them impossible to tell apart - and thus one cannot
know in a mixed Android/vanilla environment whether one means
timer_type or send_nl_msg.
Since this is iptables/netfilter uapi it introduces a problem
between iptables (vanilla vs Android) userspace and kernel
(vanilla vs Android) if the two don't match each other.
Additionally when at some point in the future Android picks up
5.7+ it's not at all clear how to resolve the resulting merge
conflict.
Furthermore, since upgrading the kernel on old Android phones
is pretty much impossible there does not seem to be an easy way
out of this predicament.
The only thing I've been able to come up with is some super
disgusting kernel version >= 5.7 check in the iptables binary
to flip between different struct layouts.
By adding a dummy field to the vanilla Linux kernel header file
we can force the two structs to be compatible with each other.
Long term I think I would like to deprecate send_nl_msg out of
Android entirely, but I haven't quite been able to figure out
exactly how we depend on it. It seems to be very similar to
sysfs notifications but with some extra info.
Currently it's actually always enabled whenever Android uses
the IDLETIMER target, so we could also probably entirely
remove it from the uapi in favour of just always enabling it,
but again we can't upgrade old kernels already in the field.
(Also note that this doesn't change the structure's size,
as it is simply fitting into the pre-existing padding, and
that since 5.7 hasn't been released yet, there's still time
to make this uapi visible change)

Like vxlan and erspan opts, geneve opts should also be supported in
nft_tunnel. The difference is geneve RFC (draft-ietf-nvo3-geneve-14)
allows a geneve packet to carry multiple geneve opts. So with this
patch, nftables/libnftnl would do:
# nft add table ip filter
# nft add chain ip filter input { type filter hook input priority 0 \; }
# nft add tunnel filter geneve_02 { type geneve\; id 2\; \
ip saddr 192.168.1.1\; ip daddr 192.168.1.2\; \
sport 9000\; dport 9001\; dscp 1234\; ttl 64\; flags 1\; \
opts \"1:1:34567890,2:2:12121212,3:3:1212121234567890\"\; }
# nft list tunnels table filter
table ip filter {
tunnel geneve_02 {
id 2
ip saddr 192.168.1.1
ip daddr 192.168.1.2
sport 9000
dport 9001
tos 18
ttl 64
flags 1
geneve opts 1:1:34567890,2:2:12121212,3:3:1212121234567890
}
}
