Same as single_open(), but preallocates the buffer of given size. Doesn't make any sense for sizes up to PAGE_SIZE and doesn't make sense if output of show() exceeds PAGE_SIZE only rarely - seq_read() will take care of growing the buffer and redoing show(). If you _know_ that it will be large, it might make more sense to look into saner iterator, rather than go with single-shot one. If that's impossible, single_open_size() might be for you. It's still an obsolete interface; don't introduce those in new drivers. However, it's saner than the ->proc_info() and commits after this one will convert the existing ->proc_info() users to it. The read side is ->show_info(seq_file *, struct Scsi_Host *); use seq_... for generating contents. The write side is ->write_info(struct Scsi_Host *, char *, int). Again, this is driven by procfs needs; we are going to kill ->write_proc() and ->read_proc() and this is the main obstacle to burying that piece of shit. * new field - pipe->files; number of struct file over that pipe (all sharing the same inode, of course); protected by inode->i_lock. * pipe_release() decrements pipe->files, clears inode->i_pipe when if the counter has reached 0 (all under ->i_lock) and, in that case, frees pipe after having done pipe_unlock() * fifo_open() starts with grabbing ->i_lock, and either bumps pipe->files if ->i_pipe was non-NULL or allocates a new pipe (dropping and regaining ->i_lock) and rechecks ->i_pipe; if it's still NULL, inserts new pipe there, otherwise bumps ->i_pipe->files and frees the one we'd allocated. At that point we know that ->i_pipe is non-NULL and won't go away, so we can do pipe_lock() on it and proceed as we used to. Booting with 32 TBytes memory hits BUG at mm/page_alloc.c:552! (output below). The key hint is "page 4294967296 outside zone". 4294967296 = 0x100000000 (bit 32 is set). The problem is in include/linux/mmzone.h: 530 static inline unsigned zone_end_pfn(const struct zone *zone) 531 { 532 return zone->zone_start_pfn + zone->spanned_pages; 533 } zone_end_pfn is "unsigned" (32 bits). Changing it to "unsigned long" (64 bits) fixes the problem. zone_end_pfn() was added recently in commit 108bcc96ef70 ("mm: add & use zone_end_pfn() and zone_spans_pfn()") Output from the failure. 2013-03-22printk: Provide a wake_up_klogd() off-caseFrederic Weisbecker2-1/+6
wake_up_klogd() is useless when CONFIG_PRINTK=n because neither printk() nor printk_sched() are in use and there are actually no waiter on log_wait waitqueue. It should be a stub in this case for users like bust_spinlocks(). Otherwise this results in this warning when CONFIG_PRINTK=n and CONFIG_IRQ_WORK=n: kernel/built-in.o In function `wake_up_klogd': (.text.wake_up_klogd+0xb4): undefined reference to `irq_work_queue' To fix this, provide an off-case for wake_up_klogd() when CONFIG_PRINTK=n. There is much more from console_unlock() and other console related code in printk.c that should be moved under CONFIG_PRINTK. But for now, focus on a minimal fix as we passed the merged window already. Add modem-status-change wait queue to struct usb_serial_port that subdrivers can use to implement TIOCMIWAIT. Currently subdrivers use a private wait queue which may have been released when waking up after device disconnected. Felipe writes: usb: fixes for v3.9-rc4 udc-core learned that it shouldn't use invalid pointers when unloading a gadget driver. net2272 and net2280 got a fix for a regression caused by the udc_start/udc_stop conversion. We're defining a static inline no-op for otg_ulpi_create() to prevent build errors when that driver isn't enabled. FunctionFS got a fix for an off-by-one error when binding and unbinding instances of FunctionFS. MUSB learned that it shouldn't try to unmap buffers which weren't previously mapped. f_rndis got a fix for a possible NULL pointer dereference in a debugging message code. MUSB's DA8xx glue layer got a build fix due to a typo.

2013-03-20udp: add encap_destroy callbackTom Parkin1-0/+1
Users of udp encapsulation currently have an encap_rcv callback which they can use to hook into the udp receive path. In situations where a encapsulation user allocates resources associated with a udp encap socket, it may be convenient to be able to also hook the proto .destroy operation. For example, if an encap user holds a reference to the udp socket, the destroy hook might be used to relinquish this reference. This patch adds a socket destroy hook into udp, which is set and enabled in the same way as the existing encap_rcv hook. This patch introduces a constant limit of the fragment queue hash table bucket list lengths. Currently the limit 128 is choosen somewhat arbitrary and just ensures that we can fill up the fragment cache with empty packets up to the default ip_frag_high_thresh limits. It should just protect from list iteration eating considerable amounts of cpu. If we reach the maximum length in one hash bucket a warning is printed. This is implemented on the caller side of inet_frag_find to distinguish between the different users of inet_fragment.c. I dropped the out of memory warning in the ipv4 fragment lookup path, because we already get a warning by the slab allocator. 2013-03-19ipvs: add backup_only flag to avoid loopsJulian Anastasov1-0/+12
Dmitry Akindinov is reporting for a problem where SYNs are looping between the master and backup server when the backup server is used as real server in DR mode and has IPVS rules to function as director. Even when the backup function is enabled we continue to forward traffic and schedule new connections when the current master is using the backup server as real server. While this is not a problem for NAT, for DR and TUN method the backup server can not determine if a request comes from client or from director. To avoid such loops add new sysctl flag backup_only. It can be needed for DR/TUN setups that do not need backup and director function at the same time. When the backup function is enabled we stop any forwarding and pass the traffic to the local stack (real server mode). The flag disables the director function when the backup function is enabled. For setups that enable backup function for some virtual services and director function for other virtual services there should be another more complex solution to support DR/TUN mode, may be to assign per-virtual service syncid value, so that we can differentiate the requests.
