Currently the soc-cache code will always write to the device, meaning that we need the device to be powered and active at pretty much all times the system is active. Allowing cache only writes lays some groundwork for future enhancements to allow devices to be put into a full off state when the audio subsystem is idle. SD_PREFER_SIBLING is set at the CPU domain level if power saving isn't enabled, leading to many cache misses on large machines as we traverse looking for an idle shared cache to wake to. 2010-01-21ASoC: Support turning off bias when the CODEC is idleMark Brown1-0/+2
Currently ASoC always maintains the bias of the CODEC while the system is active. With older mobile CODECs this is required since the outputs are referenced to a non-zero voltage and enabling or disabling this voltage without audible pops or clicks in the output takes too long to do when starting or stopping audio. As a result of features such as ground referenced outputs and class D speaker drivers current generation devices are able to power on and off much more quickly without these system level issues so provide a new flag idle_bias_off in snd_soc_codec which will cause the core to turn off the CODEC bias. The distinction between STANDBY and OFF is still maintained. This is partly for consistency but also allows for potential future extensions such as per-machine overrides or deferring the bias removal. After the device reset and re-configuration, the device and the xHCI host think they are using alternate setting 0 of all interfaces. However, the USB core keeps track of the old state, which may include non-zero alternate settings. It uses intf->cur_altsetting to keep the endpoint sysfs files for the old state across the reset. The bandwidth allocation functions need to know what the xHCI host thinks the current alternate settings are, so original patch set intf->cur_altsetting to the alternate setting 0. This caused duplicate endpoint files to be created. The solution is to not set intf->cur_altsetting before calling usb_set_interface() in usb_reset_and_verify_device(). 2010-01-20ASoC: tlv320dac33: Burst mode BCLK divider configurationPeter Ujfalusi1-0/+1
Add possibility to configure the burst mode BCLK divider through platform data structure. The BCLK divider changes the actual speed of the serial bus in burst mode, which is faster than the sampling frequency of the running stream. In this way platforms can experiment with the optimal burst speed without the need to modify the codec driver itself. 2010-01-16nommu: fix shared mmap after truncate shrinkage problemsDavid Howells1-0/+1
Fix a problem in NOMMU mmap with ramfs whereby a shared mmap can happen over the end of a truncation. The problem is that ramfs_nommu_check_mappings() checks that the reduced file size against the VMA tree, but not the vm_region tree. The following sequence of events can cause the problem: fd = open("/tmp/x", O_RDWR|O_TRUNC|O_CREAT, 0600); ftruncate(fd, 32 * 1024); a = mmap(NULL, 32 * 1024, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd, 0); b = mmap(NULL, 16 * 1024, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd, 0); munmap(a, 32 * 1024); ftruncate(fd, 16 * 1024); c = mmap(NULL, 32 * 1024, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd, 0); Mapping 'a' creates a vm_region covering 32KB of the file. Mapping 'b' sees that the vm_region from 'a' is covering the region it wants and so shares it, pinning it in memory. Mapping 'a' then goes away and the file is truncated to the end of VMA 'b'. However, the region allocated by 'a' is still in effect, and has _not_ been reduced. Mapping 'c' is then created, and because there's a vm_region covering the desired region, get_unmapped_area() is _not_ called to repeat the check, and the mapping is granted, even though the pages from the latter half of the mapping have been discarded. However: d = mmap(NULL, 16 * 1024, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, fd, 0); Mapping 'd' should work, and should end up sharing the region allocated by 'a'. To deal with this, we shrink the vm_region struct during the truncation, lest do_mmap_pgoff() take it as licence to share the full region automatically without calling the get_unmapped_area() file op again. 2010-01-16kfifo: sanitize *_user error handlingAndi Kleen1-4/+4
Right now for kfifo_*_user it's not easily possible to distingush between a user copy failing and the FIFO not containing enough data. The problem is that both conditions are multiplexed into the same return code. Avoid this by moving the "copy length" into a separate output parameter and only return 0/-EFAULT in the main return value. I didn't fully adapt the weird "record" variants, those seem to be unused anyways and were rather messy (should they be just removed?) I would appreciate some double checking if I did all the conversions correctly. commit 8bd108d adds preemption point after each opcode parse, then a sleeping function called from invalid context bug was founded during suspend/resume stage. this was fixed in commit abe1dfa by don't cond_resched when irq_disabled. But recent commit 138d156 changes the behaviour to don't cond_resched when in_atomic. This makes the sleeping function called from invalid context bug happen again, which is reported in http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/12/1/371. commit 5300990c0370e804e49d9a59d928c5d53fb73487 had stepped on a rather nasty mess: definitions of ACC_MODE used to be different. Fixed the resulting breakage, converting them to variant that takes O_... value; all callers have that and it actually simplifies life (see tomoyo part of changes). There are two copies of list_sort() in the tree already, one in the DRM code, another in ubifs. Now XFS needs this as well. Create a generic list_sort() function from the ubifs version and convert existing users to it so we don't end up with yet another copy in the tree. Interestingly, when SIDPR is used in ata_piix, writes to DET in SControl sometimes get ignored leading to detection failure. Update sata_link_resume() such that it reads back SControl after clearing DET and retry if it's not clear. 2010-01-11core, x86: make LIST_POISON less deadlyAvi Kivity1-2/+14
The list macros use LIST_POISON1 and LIST_POISON2 as undereferencable pointers in order to trap erronous use of freed list_heads. Unfortunately userspace can arrange for those pointers to actually be dereferencable, potentially turning an oops to an expolit. To avoid this allow architectures (currently x86_64 only) to override the default values for these pointers with truly-undereferencable values. This is easy on x86_64 as the virtual address space is large and contains areas that cannot be mapped. Other 64-bit architectures will likely find similar unmapped ranges.
