For crying out loud, half of these types are routinely used as array indices and loop variables... If anything, we want a different set of allowed operations - subtraction between elements of type (yielding integer), addition/subtraction of integer types not bigger than ours (yielding our type), comparisons, assignments (=, +=, -=, passing to function as argument, return from function, initializers) and second/third arguments in ?:. With 0 *not* being allowed as a constant of such type. It's not bitwise; we may use the same infrastructure in sparse, but it should be a separate class of types (__attribute__((affine))). dma_addr_t is another candidate for the same treatment, but there we'll need helpers for conversions to hw-acceptable form (dma_to_le32(), etc.) and gradual conversion of drivers. On OpenMoko soc-audio resume is taking 700ms of the whole resume time of 1.3s, dominated by writes to the codec over I2C. This patch shunts the resume guts into a workqueue which then is done asynchronously. The "card" is locked using the ALSA power state APIs as suggested by Mark Brown. 2008-05-19[ALSA] ASoC: Clarify API for bias configurationMark Brown2-5/+26
Currently the ASoC core configures the bias levels in the system using a callback on codecs and machines called 'dapm_event', passing it PCI style power levels as SNDRV_CTL_POWER_ constants. This is more obscure than it needs to be and has caused confusion to driver authors, especially given that DAPM is also performing power management. Address this by renaming the callback function to 'set_bias_level' and using constants explicitly representing the off, standby, pre-on and on states which DAPM transitions through. Also unexport the API for setting bias level: there are currently no in-tree users of this API other than the core itself and it is likely that the core would need to be extended to cater for any users. 2008-07-08Correct hash flushing from huge_ptep_set_wrprotect()David Gibson2-6/+10
As Andy Whitcroft recently pointed out, the current powerpc version of huge_ptep_set_wrprotect() has a bug. It just calls ptep_set_wrprotect() which in turn calls pte_update() then hpte_need_flush() with the 'huge' argument set to 0. This will cause hpte_need_flush() to flush the wrong hash entries (of any). Andy's fix for this is already in the powerpc tree as commit 016b33c4958681c24056abed8ec95844a0da80a3. I have confirmed this is a real bug, not masked by some other synchronization, with a new testcase for libhugetlbfs. A process write a (MAP_PRIVATE) hugepage mapping, fork(), then alter the mapping and have the child incorrectly see the second write. Therefore, this should be fixed for 2.6.26, and for the stable tree. Here is a suitable patch for 2.6.26, which I think will also be suitable for the stable tree (neither of the headers in question has been changed much recently). It is cut down slighlty from Andy's original version, in that it does not include a 32-bit version of huge_ptep_set_wrprotect(). Currently, hugepages are not supported on any 32-bit powerpc platform. When they are, a suitable 32-bit version can be added - the only 32-bit hardware which supports hugepages does not use the conventional hashtable MMU and so will have different needs anyway. 2008-07-04olpc: sdhci: add quirk for the Marvell CaFe's vdd/powerup issueAndres Salomon1-0/+1

The Marvell CaFe chip's SD implementation chokes during card insertion if one attempts to set the voltage and power up in the same SDHCI_POWER_CONTROL register write. This adds a quirk that does that particular dance in two steps. It also adds an entry to pci_ids.h for the CaFe chip's SD device. The branch optimization fixes in 2.6.21 introduced a bug in atomic_sub_if_positive that causes it to return even when the sc instruction fails. 2008-07-03slub: Do not use 192 byte sized cache if minimum alignment is 128 byteChristoph Lameter1-0/+2
The 192 byte cache is not necessary if we have a basic alignment of 128 byte. If it would be used then the 192 would be aligned to the next 128 byte boundary which would result in another 256 byte cache. Two 256 kmalloc caches cause sysfs to complain about a duplicate entry. MIPS needs 128 byte aligned kmalloc caches and spits out warnings on boot without this patch.
