This patch changes FDB entry check for ATM LANE bridge integration. There's no point in holding a FDB entry around SKB building. br_fdb_get()/br_fdb_put() pair are changed into single br_fdb_test_addr() hook that checks if the addr has FDB entry pointing to other port to the one the request arrived on. We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv: 1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv(). 2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv. But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it directly. This patch is a safe convert for netdev->priv to netdev_priv(netdev). Since all of the netdev->priv is only for read. But it is too big to be sent in one mail. I split it to 4 parts and make every part smaller than 100,000 bytes, which is max size allowed by vger. If print_mac() is used inside of a pr_debug() the compiler can't see that the call is redundant so still performs it even of pr_debug() ends up being a nop. So don't use print_mac() in such cases in hot code paths, use MAC_FMT et al. instead. As noted by Joe Perches, pr_debug() could be modified to handle this better, but that is a change to an interface used by the entire kernel and thus needs to be validated carefully. Many-many code in the kernel initialized the timer->function and timer->data together with calling init_timer(timer). There is already a helper for this. Use it for networking code. So that it is also an offset from skb->head, reduces its size from 8 to 4 bytes on 64bit architectures, allowing us to combine the 4 bytes hole left by the layer headers conversion, reducing struct sk_buff size to 256 bytes, i.e. 4 64byte cachelines, and since the sk_buff slab cache is SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN... :-) Many calculations that previously required that skb->{transport,network, mac}_header be first converted to a pointer now can be done directly, being meaningful as offsets or pointers. 2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau1-1/+0
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources.
