2014-10-24netfilter: nf_log: release skbuff on nlmsg put failureHoucheng Lin1-9/+8
The kernel should reserve enough room in the skb so that the DONE message can always be appended. However, in case of e.g. new attribute erronously not being size-accounted for, __nfulnl_send() will still try to put next nlmsg into this full skbuf, causing the skb to be stuck forever and blocking delivery of further messages. Fix issue by releasing skb immediately after nlmsg_put error and WARN() so we can track down the cause of such size mismatch. We currently neither account for the nlattr size, nor do we consider the size of the trailing NLMSG_DONE when allocating nlmsg skb. This can result in nflog to stop working, as __nfulnl_send() re-tries sending forever if it failed to append NLMSG_DONE (which will never work if buffer is not large enough). 2014-06-27netfilter: log: nf_log_packet() as real unified interfacePablo Neira Ayuso1-0/+3
Before this patch, the nf_loginfo parameter specified the logging configuration in case the specified default logger was loaded. This patch updates the semantics of the nf_loginfo parameter in nf_log_packet() which now indicates the logger that you explicitly want to use. Thus, nf_log_packet() is exposed as an unified interface which internally routes the log message to the corresponding logger type by family. The module dependencies are expressed by the new nf_logger_find_get() and nf_logger_put() functions which bump the logger module refcount. Thus, you can not remove logger modules that are used by rules anymore. Another important effect of this change is that the family specific module is only loaded when required. Now that legacy ulog targets are not available anymore in the tree, we can have up to two possible loggers: 1) The plain text logging via kernel logging ring. 2) The nfnetlink_log infrastructure which delivers log messages to userspace. This patch replaces the list of loggers by an array of two pointers per family for each possible logger and it also introduces a new field to the nf_logger structure which indicates the position in the logger array (based on the logger type). Steven Rostedt and Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo reported a panic when access the files /proc/sys/net/netfilter/nf_log/*. Since the nf_loggers of netns hasn't been unset, it will point to the memory that has been freed. The copyrights even state a date which lies six years before it was written. It was written in 2005 by Harald and myself. - net/ipv{4,6}/netfilter.c, net/netfitler/nf_queue.c were missing copyright statements. 2013-04-05netfilter: nf_log: prepare net namespace support for loggersGao feng1-2/+3
This patch adds netns support to nf_log and it prepares netns support for existing loggers. It is composed of four major changes. 1) nf_log_register has been split to two functions: nf_log_register and nf_log_set. The new nf_log_register is used to globally register the nf_logger and nf_log_set is used for enabling pernet support from nf_loggers. Per netns is not yet complete after this patch, it comes in separate follow up patches. 2) Add net as a parameter of nf_log_bind_pf. Per netns is not yet complete after this patch, it only allows to bind the nf_logger to the protocol family from init_net and it skips other cases. 3) Adapt all nf_log_packet callers to pass netns as parameter. After this patch, this function only works for init_net. 4) Make the sysctl net/netfilter/nf_log pernet. I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member) The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter: hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member) Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate. Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required: - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones. - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this was modified to use 'obj->member' instead. - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator properly, so those had to be fixed up manually. 2012-12-16netfilter: nfnetlink_log: fix mac address for 6in4 tunnelsBob Hockney1-3/+12
For tunnelled ipv6in4 packets, the LOG target (xt_LOG.c) adjusts the start of the mac field to start at the ethernet header instead of the ipv4 header for the tunnel. This patch conforms what is passed by the NFLOG target through nfnetlink to what the LOG target does. Code borrowed from xt_LOG.c. This benefits processes that have very many mostly idle sockets, which is quite common. Pull user namespace changes from Eric Biederman: "This is a mostly modest set of changes to enable basic user namespace support. This allows the code to code to compile with user namespaces enabled and removes the assumption there is only the initial user namespace. Everything is converted except for the most complex of the filesystems: autofs4, 9p, afs, ceph, cifs, coda, fuse, gfs2, ncpfs, nfs, ocfs2 and xfs as those patches need a bit more review. The strategy is to push kuid_t and kgid_t values are far down into subsystems and filesystems as reasonable. Leaving the make_kuid and from_kuid operations to happen at the edge of userspace, as the values come off the disk, and as the values come in from the network. Letting compile type incompatible compile errors (present when user namespaces are enabled) guide me to find the issues. The most tricky areas have been the places where we had an implicit union of uid and gid values and were storing them in an unsigned int. Those places were converted into explicit unions. I made certain to handle those places with simple trivial patches. Out of that work I discovered we have generic interfaces for storing quota by projid. I had never heard of the project identifiers before. Adding full user namespace support for project identifiers accounts for most of the code size growth in my git tree. Ultimately there will be work to relax privlige checks from "capable(FOO)" to "ns_capable(user_ns, FOO)" where it is safe allowing root in a user names to do those things that today we only forbid to non-root users because it will confuse suid root applications. While I was pushing kuid_t and kgid_t changes deep into the audit code I made a few other cleanups. I capitalized on the fact we process netlink messages in the context of the message sender. I removed usage of NETLINK_CRED, and started directly using current->tty. Some of these patches have also made it into maintainer trees, with no problems from identical code from different trees showing up in linux-next. At logging instance creation capture the peer netlink socket's user namespace. Use the captured peer user namespace when reporting socket uids to the peer. The peer socket's user namespace is guaranateed to be valid until the user closes the netlink socket. nfnetlink_log removes instances during the final close of a socket. __build_packet_message does not get called after an instance is destroyed. By default, when broadcast or multicast packet are sent from a local application, they are sent to the interface then looped by the kernel to other local applications, going throught netfilter hooks in the process. These looped packet have their MAC header removed from the skb by the kernel looping code. This confuse various netfilter's netlink queue, netlink log and the legacy ip_queue, because they try to extract a hardware address from these packets, but extracts a part of the IP header instead. This patch prevent NFQUEUE, NFLOG and ip_QUEUE to include a MAC header if there is none in the packet.
