2021-10-05scripts: get_abi.pl: better generate regex from what fieldsMauro Carvalho Chehab1-2/+11
Using repeating sequencies of .* seem to slow down the processing speed on some cases. Also, currently, a "." character is not properly handled as such. Change the way regexes are created, in order to produce better search expressions. 2021-10-05scripts: get_abi.pl: fix fallback rule for undefined symbolsMauro Carvalho Chehab1-1/+1
The rule that falls back to the long regex list is wrong: it is just running again the same loop it did before. change it to look at the "others" table. That slows the processing speed, but provides a better list of undefined symbols. 2021-09-28scripts: get_abi.pl: show progressMauro Carvalho Chehab1-51/+104
As parsing the sysfs entries can take a long time, add progress information. The progress logic will update the stats on every second, or on 1% steps of the progress. When STDERR is a console, it will use a single line, using a VT-100 command to erase the line before rewriting it. Otherwise, it will put one message on a separate line. That would help to identify what parts of sysfs checking that it is taking more time to process. 2021-09-28scripts: get_abi.pl: fix parse logic for DT firmwareMauro Carvalho Chehab1-10/+20
It doesn't make any sense to parse ABI entries under /sys/firmware, as those are either specified by ACPI specs or by Documentation/devicetree. The current logic to ignore firmware entries is incomplete, as it ignores just the relative name of the file, and not its absolute name. This cause errors while parsing the symlinks. So, rewrite the logic for it to do a better job. Tested with both x86 and arm64 (HiKey970) systems. 2021-09-28scripts: get_abi.pl: produce an error if the ref tree is brokenMauro Carvalho Chehab1-1/+9
The logic under graph_add_file should create, for every entry, a __name name array for all entries of the tree. If this fails, the symlink parsing will break. Add an error if this ever happens. While here, improve the output of data dumper to be more compact and to avoid displaying things like $VAR1=. 2021-09-28scripts: get_abi.pl: create a valid ReST with duplicated tagsMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+1

That could cause more warnings, as the produced ReST may become invalid, as in the case of this specific symbol, which ends with a table: /new_devel/v4l/docs/Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-bus-iio-temperature-max31856:2: WARNING: Malformed table. 2021-09-23scripts: get_abi.pl: ensure that "others" regex will be parsedMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+16
The way the search algorithm works is that reduces the number of regex expressions that will be checked for a given file entry at sysfs. It does that by looking at the devnode name. For instance, when it checks for this file: /sys/bus/pci/drivers/iosf_mbi_pci/bind The logic will seek only the "What:" expressions that end with "bind". Currently, there are just a couple of What expressions that matches it: What: /sys/bus/fsl\-mc/drivers/.*/bind What: /sys/bus/pci/drivers/.*/bind It will then run an O(n²) algorithm to seek, which runs quickly when there are few regexs to seek. There are, however, some What: expressions that end with a wildcard. Those are harder to process. Right now, they're all grouped together at the "others" group. As those don't depend on the basename of the node, add an extra loop to ensure that those will be processed at the end, if not done yet. 2021-09-23scripts: get_abi.pl: Better handle leaves with wildcardsMauro Carvalho Chehab1-1/+1
When the the leaf of a regex ends with a wildcard, the speedup algorithm to reduce the number of regexes to seek won't work. So, when those are found, place at the "others" exception. 2021-09-21scripts: get_abi.pl: add a graph to speedup the undefined algorithmMauro Carvalho Chehab1-61/+127
Searching for symlinks is an expensive operation with the current logic, as it is at the order of O(n^3). In practice, running the check spends 2-3 minutes to check all symbols. Fix it by storing the directory tree into a graph, and using a Breadth First Search (BFS) to find the links for each sysfs node. With such improvement, it can now report issues with ~11 seconds on my machine. It comes with a price, though: there are more symbols reported as undefined after this change. I suspect it is due to some sysfs circular loops that are dropped by BFS. Despite such increase, it seems that the reports are now more coherent. 2021-09-21scripts: get_abi.pl: don't skip what that ends with wildcardsMauro Carvalho Chehab1-34/+46
The search algorithm used inside check_undefined_symbols has an optimization: it seeks only whats that have the same leave name. This helps not only to speedup the search, but it also allows providing a hint about a partial match. There's a drawback, however: when "what:" finishes with a wildcard, the logic will skip the what, reporting it as "not found". Fix it by grouping the remaining cases altogether, and disabing any hints for such cases. 2020-11-02scripts: get_abi.pl: Don't let ABI files to create subtitlesMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+6
The ReST output should only contain documentation titles automatically created by the script. There are two reasons for that: 1) Consistency. just a handful ABI docs define titles 2) To avoid critical errors. Docutils (which is the basis for Sphinx) allows a free assign of documentation title markups. So, one document could be doing things like: Level 1 ======= Level 2 ------- While another one could do the reverse: Level 1 ------- Level 2 ======= But the same document can't mix. As the output of get_abi.pl will join contents from multiple files, if they don't define the levels on a consistent errors, errors like this can happen: Sphinx parallel build error: docutils.utils.SystemMessage: /home/rdunlap/lnx/lnx-510-rc2/Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-bus-rapidio:2: (SEVERE/4) Title level inconsistent: Attributes Common for All RapidIO Devices ----------------------------------------- Which cause some versions of Sphinx to go into an endless loop. It should be noticed that an alternative to that would be to replace all title occurrences by a single markup, but that will make the parser more complex, and, due to (1) it would generate an inconsistent output. So, better to just remove the titles defined at the ABI files from the output. The files under Documentation/ABI should follow the syntax as defined at Documentation/ABI/README. Allow checking if they're following the syntax by running the ABI parser script on COMPILE_TEST. With that, when there's a problem with a file under Documentation/ABI, it would produce a warning like: Warning: file ./Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-bus-pci-devices-aer_stats#14: What '/sys/bus/pci/devices/<dev>/aer_stats/aer_rootport_total_err_cor' doesn't have a description Warning: file ./Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-bus-pci-devices-aer_stats#21: What '/sys/bus/pci/devices/<dev>/aer_stats/aer_rootport_total_err_fatal' doesn't have a description Acked-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/57a38de85cb4b548857207cf1fc1bf1ee08613c9.1604042072.git.mchehab+huawei@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: auto-generate cross referencesMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+31
There are several cross-references that can be automatically generated: - References to .rst files inside Documentation/ - References to other ABI files; - References to ABI symbols at /sys/*. Add a logic to automatically parse them and convert into cross references. 2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: use bold font for ABI definitionsMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+1
As we're using tables, let's distinguish the ones used by ABI by using a bold font. 2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: prevent duplicated file namesMauro Carvalho Chehab1-5/+10

2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: output users in ReST formatMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+8

2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: detect duplicated ABI definitionsMauro Carvalho Chehab1-27/+58
The ABI should define only once each What. The current script logic assumes that. However, that's not the case, currently: there are several symbols with a generic definition, and per-driver ones. Better handle such cases, by preserving the cross-references with the files that define them, but also track such cases, producing warnings, as they should be fixed. 2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: cleanup ABI cross-reference logicMauro Carvalho Chehab1-64/+83
Right now, the cross-references are generated on a single step, when doing ReST output. While this is nice optimization, it prevents auto-creating cross-references for ABI symbols. So, split it into a separate logic. While here, turn on Perl warnings, as it helps to debug problems inside the script. 2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: improve its parser to better catch up indentationMauro Carvalho Chehab1-23/+19
The original parser for indentation were relying on having just one description for each "what". However, that's not the case: there are a number of ABI symbols that got defined multiple times. Improve the parser for it to better handle descriptions if entries are duplicated. 2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: Allow optionally record from where a line came fromMauro Carvalho Chehab1-1/+21
The get_abi.pl reads a lot of files and can join them on a single output file. Store where each "What:" output came from, in order to be able to optionally display it. This is useful for the Sphinx extension, with can now be able to blame what ABI file has issues, and on what line the What: description with problems begin. 2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: fix parsing on ReST modeMauro Carvalho Chehab1-16/+14
When the source ABI file is using ReST notation, the script should handle whitespaces and lines with care, as otherwise the file won't be properly recognized. Address the bugs that are on such part of the script. 2020-10-30scripts: get_abi.pl: change script to allow parsing in ReST modeMauro Carvalho Chehab1-25/+47
Right now, several ABI files won't parse as ReST, as they contain severe violations to the spec, with makes the script to crash. So, the code has a sanity logic with escapes bad code and cleans tags that can cause Sphinx to crash. Add support for disabling this mode. Right now, as enabling rst-mode causes crash, it is disabled by default. 2019-06-21scripts/get_abi.pl: add a validate commandMauro Carvalho Chehab1-7/+9
Sometimes, we just want the parser to retrieve all symbols from ABI, in order to check for parsing errors. So, add a new "validate" command. While here, update the man/help pages. 2019-06-21scripts/get_abi.pl: add a handler for invalid "where" tagMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+6
The ABI README file doesn't provide any meaning for a Where: tag. Yet, a few ABI symbols use it. So, make the parser handle it, emitting a warning. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+samsung@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2019-06-21scripts/get_abi.pl: avoid creating duplicate namesMauro Carvalho Chehab1-0/+9
The file the Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-class-power has voltage_min, voltage_max and voltage_now symbols duplicated. They are defined first for "General Properties" and then for "USB Properties". This cause those warnings: get_abi.pl rest --dir $srctree/Documentation/ABI/testing:26933: WARNING: Duplicate explicit target name: "abi_sys_class_power_supply_supply_name_voltage_max". get_abi.pl rest --dir $srctree/Documentation/ABI/testing:26968: WARNING: Duplicate explicit target name: "abi_sys_class_power_supply_supply_name_voltage_min". get_abi.pl rest --dir $srctree/Documentation/ABI/testing:27008: WARNING: Duplicate explicit target name: "abi_sys_class_power_supply_supply_name_voltage_now". And, as the references are not valid, it will also generate warnings about links to undefined references. Fix it by storing labels into a hash table and, when a duplicated one is found, appending random characters at the end.
