2015-01-14sched/fair: Fix sched_entity::avg::decay_count initializationKirill Tkhai2-1/+3
Child has the same decay_count as parent. If it's not zero, we add it to parent's cfs_rq->removed_load: wake_up_new_task()->set_task_cpu()->migrate_task_rq_fair(). Child's load is a just garbade after copying of parent, it hasn't been on cfs_rq yet, and it must not be added to cfs_rq::removed_load in migrate_task_rq_fair(). The patch moves sched_entity::avg::decay_count intialization in sched_fork(). So, migrate_task_rq_fair() does not change removed_load. 2015-01-14sched/debug: Fix potential call to __ffs(0) in sched_show_task()Tetsuo Handa1-2/+3
"struct task_struct"->state is "volatile long" and __ffs() warns that "Undefined if no bit exists, so code should check against 0 first." Therefore, at expression state = p->state ? __ffs(p->state) + 1 : 0; in sched_show_task(), CPU might see "p->state" before "?" as "non-zero" but "p->state" after "?" as "zero", which could result in "state >= sizeof(stat_nam)" being true and bogus '?' is printed. This patch changes "state" from "unsigned int" to "unsigned long" and save "p->state" before calling __ffs(), in order to avoid potential call to __ffs(0). 2015-01-14sched/debug: Check for stack overflow in ___might_sleep()Eric Sandeen1-0/+3
Sometimes a "BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context" message is not indicative of locking problems, but is the result of a stack overflow corrupting the thread info. Witness http://oss.sgi.com/archives/xfs/2014-02/msg00325.html for example, which took a few go-rounds to sort out. If we're printing the warning, things are wonky already, and it'd be informative to check for the stack end corruption at this point, too. 2015-01-14sched/fair: Fix the dealing with decay_count in __synchronize_entity_decay()Xunlei Pang1-1/+1
In __synchronize_entity_decay(), if "decays" happens to be zero, se->avg.decay_count will not be zeroed, holding the positive value assigned when dequeued last time. This is problematic in the following case: If this runnable task is CFS-balanced to other CPUs soon afterwards, migrate_task_rq_fair() will treat it as a blocked task due to its non-zero decay_count, thereby adding its load to cfs_rq->removed_load wrongly. Thus, we must zero se->avg.decay_count in this case as well. 2015-01-09sched/deadline: Avoid double-accounting in case of missed deadlinesLuca Abeni1-18/+1
The dl_runtime_exceeded() function is supposed to ckeck if a SCHED_DEADLINE task must be throttled, by checking if its current runtime is <= 0. However, it also checks if the scheduling deadline has been missed (the current time is larger than the current scheduling deadline), further decreasing the runtime if this happens. This "double accounting" is wrong: - In case of partitioned scheduling (or single CPU), this happens if task_tick_dl() has been called later than expected (due to small HZ values). 2015-01-09sched/deadline: Fix migration of SCHED_DEADLINE tasksLuca Abeni1-3/+3
According to global EDF, tasks should be migrated between runqueues without checking if their scheduling deadlines and runtimes are valid. However, SCHED_DEADLINE currently performs such a check: a migration happens doing: deactivate_task(rq, next_task, 0); set_task_cpu(next_task, later_rq->cpu); activate_task(later_rq, next_task, 0); which ends up calling dequeue_task_dl(), setting the new CPU, and then calling enqueue_task_dl(). enqueue_task_dl() then calls enqueue_dl_entity(), which calls update_dl_entity(), which can modify scheduling deadline and runtime, breaking global EDF scheduling. As a result, some of the properties of global EDF are not respected: for example, a taskset {(30, 80), (40, 80), (120, 170)} scheduled on two cores can have unbounded response times for the third task even if 30/80+40/80+120/170 = 1.5809 < 2 This can be fixed by invoking update_dl_entity() only in case of wakeup, or if this is a new SCHED_DEADLINE task. 2015-01-09sched, fanotify: Deal with nested sleepsPeter Zijlstra1-5/+5
As per e23738a7300a ("sched, inotify: Deal with nested sleeps"). fanotify_read is a wait loop with sleeps in. Wait loops rely on task_struct::state and sleeps do too, since that's the only means of actually sleeping. Therefore the nested sleeps destroy the wait loop state and the wait loop breaks the sleep functions that assume TASK_RUNNING (mutex_lock). Fix this by using the new woken_wake_function and wait_woken() stuff, which registers wakeups in wait and thereby allows shrinking the task_state::state changes to the actual sleep part. 2014-12-23sched: Fix KMALLOC_MAX_SIZE overflow during cpumask allocationAlex Thorlton1-8/+5
When allocating space for load_balance_mask, in sched_init, when CPUMASK_OFFSTACK is set, we've managed to spill over KMALLOC_MAX_SIZE on our 6144 core machine. The patch below breaks up the allocations so that they don't overflow the max alloc size. It also allocates the masks on the the node from which they'll most commonly be accessed, to minimize remote accesses on NUMA machines. strcmp was lost when all other string functions were removed, but we still have an optimized version for this on CRISv32, so any driver built as a module would not have access to this symbol. In a similar manner, we had optimized versions of csum_partial_copy_from_user and __do_clear_user but no exported symbols for them, breaking bunch of other drivers when built as a module. At the same time, move EXPORT_SYMBOL(__copy_user) and EXPORT_SYMBOL(__copy_user_zeroing) C-files so it's located together with the function definition. 2014-12-19tick/powerclamp: Remove tick_nohz_idle abuseThomas Gleixner2-4/+0
commit 4dbd27711cd9 "tick: export nohz tick idle symbols for module use" was merged via the thermal tree without an explicit ack from the relevant maintainers. The exports are abused by the intel powerclamp driver which implements a fake idle state from a sched FIFO task. This causes all kinds of wreckage in the NOHZ core code which rightfully assumes that tick_nohz_idle_enter/exit() are only called from the idle task itself. Recent changes in the NOHZ core lead to a failure of the powerclamp driver and now people try to hack completely broken and backwards workarounds into the NOHZ core code. This is completely unacceptable and just papers over the real problem. There are way more subtle issues lurking around the corner. The real solution is to fix the powerclamp driver by rewriting it with a sane concept, but that's beyond the scope of this. So the only solution for now is to remove the calls into the core NOHZ code from the powerclamp trainwreck along with the exports. So we must add a declaration: static void get_maxobj_per_zspage(); before func_1() if we do not put get_maxobj_per_zspage() before func_1(). In addition, puting module_[init|exit] functions at the bottom of the file conforms to our habit. 2014-12-18ocfs2: fix journal commit deadlockJunxiao Bi1-2/+14
For buffer write, page lock will be got in write_begin and released in write_end, in ocfs2_write_end_nolock(), before it unlock the page in ocfs2_free_write_ctxt(), it calls ocfs2_run_deallocs(), this will ask for the read lock of journal->j_trans_barrier. Holding page lock and ask for journal->j_trans_barrier breaks the locking order. This will cause a deadlock with journal commit threads, ocfs2cmt will get write lock of journal->j_trans_barrier first, then it wakes up kjournald2 to do the commit work, at last it waits until done. To commit journal, kjournald2 needs flushing data first, it needs get the cache page lock. Since some ocfs2 cluster locks are holding by write process, this deadlock may hung the whole cluster. unlock pages before ocfs2_run_deallocs() can fix the locking order, also put unlock before ocfs2_commit_trans() to make page lock is unlocked before j_trans_barrier to preserve unlocking order. 2014-12-18ocfs2: reflink: fix slow unlink for refcounted fileJunxiao Bi4-10/+24
When running ocfs2 test suite multiple nodes reflink stress test, for a 4 nodes cluster, every unlink() for refcounted file needs about 700s. The slow unlink is caused by the contention of refcount tree lock since all nodes are unlink files using the same refcount tree. When the unlinking file have many extents(over 1600 in our test), most of the extents has refcounted flag set. In ocfs2_commit_truncate(), it will execute the following call trace for every extents. This means it needs get and released refcount tree lock about 1600 times. And when several nodes are do this at the same time, the performance will be very low. ocfs2_remove_btree_range() -- ocfs2_lock_refcount_tree() ---- ocfs2_refcount_lock() ------ __ocfs2_cluster_lock() ocfs2_refcount_lock() is costly, move it to ocfs2_commit_truncate() to do lock/unlock once can improve a lot performance. This patch include CMA info (CMATotal, CMAFree) in /proc/meminfo. Currently, in a CMA enabled system, if somebody wants to know the total CMA size declared, there is no way to tell, other than the dmesg or /var/log/messages logs. With this patch we are showing the CMA info as part of meminfo, so that it can be determined at any point of time. This will be populated only when CMA is enabled. 2014-12-18mm: cma: split cma-reserved in dmesg logPintu Kumar3-2/+6
When the system boots up, in the dmesg logs we can see the memory statistics along with total reserved as below. Memory: 458840k/458840k available, 65448k reserved, 0K highmem When CMA is enabled, still the total reserved memory remains the same. However, the CMA memory is not considered as reserved. But, when we see /proc/meminfo, the CMA memory is part of free memory. This creates confusion. This patch corrects the problem by properly subtracting the CMA reserved memory from the total reserved memory in dmesg logs. Below is the dmesg snapshot from an arm based device with 512MB RAM and 12MB single CMA region. 2014-12-18hfsplus: fix longname handlingSougata Santra4-29/+79
Longname is not correctly handled by hfsplus driver. If an attempt to create a longname(>255) file/directory is made, it succeeds by creating a file/directory with HFSPLUS_MAX_STRLEN and incorrect catalog key. Thus leaving the volume in an inconsistent state. This patch fixes this issue. Although lookup is always called first to create a negative entry, so just doing a check in lookup would probably fix this issue. I choose to propagate error to other iops as well. This patch changes core_scsi3_pro_release() logic to allow an existing AllRegistrants type reservation to be re-reserved by any registered I_T nexus. This addresses a issue where AllRegistrants type RESERVE was receiving RESERVATION_CONFLICT status if dev_pr_res_holder did not match the same I_T nexus, instead of just returning GOOD status following spc4r34 Section 5.9.9: "If the device server receives a PERSISTENT RESERVE OUT command with RESERVE service action where the TYPE field and the SCOPE field contain the same values as the existing type and scope from a persistent reservation holder, it shall not make any change to the existing persistent reservation and shall complete the command with GOOD status."
