2022-04-20rcutorture: Allow specifying per-scenario stat_intervalPaul E. McKenney1-2/+14
The rcutorture test suite makes double use of the rcutorture.stat_interval module parameter. As its name suggests, it controls the frequency of statistics printing, but it also controls the rcu_torture_writer() stall timeout. The current setting of 15 seconds works surprisingly well. However, given that the RCU tasks stall-warning timeout is ten -minutes-, 15 seconds is too short for TASKS02, which runs a non-preemptible kernel on a single CPU. This commit therefore adds checks for per-scenario specification of the rcutorture.stat_interval module parameter. Signed-off-by: Paul E. McKenney <paulmck@kernel.org>

2018-07-12rcutorture: Change units of onoff_interval to jiffiesPaul E. McKenney1-1/+1
Some RCU bugs have been sensitive to the frequency of CPU-hotplug operations, which have been gradually increased over time. But this frequency is now at the one-second lower limit that can be specified using the rcutorture.onoff_interval kernel parameter. This commit therefore changes the units of rcutorture.onoff_interval from seconds to jiffies, and also sets the value specified for this kernel parameter in the TREE03 rcutorture scenario to 200, which is 200 milliseconds for HZ=1000. 2017-12-11torture: Eliminate torture_runnable and perf_runnablePaul E. McKenney1-1/+0
The purpose of torture_runnable is to allow rcutorture and locktorture to be started and stopped via sysfs when they are built into the kernel (as in not compiled as loadable modules). However, the 0444 permissions for both instances of torture_runnable prevent this use case from ever being put into practice. Given that there have been no complaints about this deficiency, it is reasonable to conclude that no one actually makes use of this sysfs capability. The perf_runnable module parameter for rcuperf is in the same situation. This commit therefore removes both torture_runnable instances as well as perf_runnable. 2014-09-16rcutorture: Rename rcutorture_runnable parameterPaul E. McKenney1-1/+1
This commit changes rcutorture_runnable to torture_runnable, which is consistent with the names of the other parameters and is a bit shorter as well. Signed-off-by: Paul E. McKenney <paulmck@linux.vnet.ibm.com>
2014-02-23rcutorture: Introduce "rcu" directory level underneath configsPaul E. McKenney1-0/+0
This commit uses the standard software ploy of introducing another level of indirection below the configs directory. This allows each torture-test suite to have its own set of Kconfig files, boot parameters, and version-specific scripts. Initially, we have only rcu, but lock will follow soonish. 2014-02-23rcutorture: Remove RCU dependencies from ver_functions.sh APIPaul E. McKenney1-6/+17
The current set of functions in ver_functions.sh have APIs that are specific to RCU. This commit therefore makes an RCU-independent function that outputs version-specific boot arguments. This has the benefit that a test-type-independent call in kvm-test-1-rcu.sh can now handle any type of test, given a test-type-specific set of files in a configs directory. Signed-off-by: Paul E. 2013-12-03rcutorture: Stop tracking FSF's postal addressPaul E. McKenney1-2/+2
All of the rcutorture scripts has the usual GPL header, which contains a long-obsolete postal address for FSF. To avoid the need to track the FSF office's movements, this commit substitutes the URL where GPL may be found. 2013-12-03rcutorture: Add per-version default Kconfig fragments and module parametersPaul E. McKenney1-14/+18
Different Kconfig parameters apply to different kernel versions, as do different rcutorture module parameters. This commit allows the rcutorture test scripts to adjust for different kernel versions. 2013-12-03rcutorture: Add KVM-based test frameworkPaul E. McKenney1-0/+42
This commit adds the test framework that I used to test RCU under KVM. This consists of a group of scripts and Kconfig fragments. Signed-off-by: Paul E. McKenney <paulmck@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Cc: Greg KH <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
