Pull tty/serial updates from Greg KH: "Here's the tty/serial patchset for 4.10-rc1. It's been a quiet kernel cycle for this subsystem, just a small number of changes. A few new serial drivers, and some cleanups to the old vgacon logic, and other minor serial driver changes as well. All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues" * tag 'tty-4.10-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/tty: (54 commits) serial: 8250_mid fix calltrace when hotplug 8250 serial controller console: Move userspace I/O out of console_lock to fix lockdep warning tty: nozomi: avoid sprintf buffer overflow serial: 8250_pci: Detach low-level driver during PCI error recovery serial: core: don't check port twice in a row mxs-auart: count FIFO overrun errors serial: 8250_dw: Add support for IrDA SIR mode serial: 8250: Expose set_ldisc function serial: 8250: Add IrDA to UART capabilities serial: 8250_dma: power off device after TX is done serial: 8250_port: export serial8250_rpm_{get|put}_tx() serial: sunsu: Free memory when probe fails serial: sunhv: Free memory when remove() is called vt: fix Scroll Lock LED trigger name tty: typo in comments in drivers/tty/vt/keyboard.c tty: amba-pl011: Add earlycon support for SBSA UART tty: nozomi: use permission-specific DEVICE_ATTR variants tty: serial: Make the STM32 serial port depend on it's arch serial: ifx6x60: Free memory when probe fails serial: ioc4_serial: Free memory when kzalloc fails during probe ...

2016-12-12Merge tag 'docs-4.10' of git://git.lwn.net/linuxLinus Torvalds28-0/+12921
Pull documentation update from Jonathan Corbet: "These are the documentation changes for 4.10. It's another busy cycle for the docs tree, as the sphinx conversion continues. Highlights include: - Further work on PDF output, which remains a bit of a pain but should be more solid now. - Five more DocBook template files converted to Sphinx. Only 27 to go... Lots of plain-text files have also been converted and integrated. - Images in binary formats have been replaced with more source-friendly versions. - Various bits of organizational work, including the renaming of various files discussed at the kernel summit. - New documentation for the device_link mechanism. ... and, of course, lots of typo fixes and small updates" * tag 'docs-4.10' of git://git.lwn.net/linux: (193 commits) dma-buf: Extract dma-buf.rst Update Documentation/00-INDEX docs: 00-INDEX: document directories/files with no docs docs: 00-INDEX: remove non-existing entries docs: 00-INDEX: add missing entries for documentation files/dirs docs: 00-INDEX: consolidate process/ and admin-guide/ description scripts: add a script to check if Documentation/00-INDEX is sane Docs: change sh -> awk in REPORTING-BUGS Documentation/core-api/device_link: Add initial documentation core-api: remove an unexpected unident ppc/idle: Add documentation for powersave=off Doc: Correct typo, "Introdution" => "Introduction" Documentation/atomic_ops.txt: convert to ReST markup Documentation/local_ops.txt: convert to ReST markup Documentation/assoc_array.txt: convert to ReST markup docs-rst: parse-headers.pl: cleanup the documentation docs-rst: fix media cleandocs target docs-rst: media/Makefile: reorganize the rules docs-rst: media: build SVG from graphviz files docs-rst: replace bayer.png by a SVG image ...

2016-11-07admin-guide: merge oops-tracing with bug-huntingMauro Carvalho Chehab3-307/+293
Now that oops-tracing.rst has only information about stack dumps found on OOPS, and bug-hunting.rst has only information about how to identify the source code line associated with a stack dump, let's merge them and improve the information inside it. 2016-10-27Merge branch 'doc-tweaks' into docs-nextJonathan Corbet6-138/+45
The creation of the admin and process guides is a great thing, but, without care, we risk replacing a messy docs directory with a few messy Sphinx books. In an attempt to head that off and show what I'm thinking, here's a set of tweaks that, I think, make the existing Sphinx-formatted docs a bit more accessible.
2016-10-27docs: Get rid of the "basic profiling" guideJonathan Corbet2-69/+0
The document has not been touched in over 11 years and doesn't reflect how profiling is done in the perf era. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>
2016-10-27docs: Get rid of the badRAM guideJonathan Corbet2-51/+0
The last release of this tool was for 2.6.28; it's hard to see how it has any relevance to current kernels. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>
2016-10-27docs: Clean up and organize the admin guide a bitJonathan Corbet4-17/+45
The admin guide is a good start, but it's time to turn it into something better than an unordered blob of files. This is a first step in that direction. The TOC has been split up and annotated, the guides have been reordered, and minor tweaks have been applied to a few of them. One consequence of splitting up the TOC is that we don't really want to use :numbered: anymore, since the count resets every time and there doesn't seem to be a way to change that. Eventually we probably want to group the documents into sub-books, at which point we can go back to a single TOC, but it's probably early to do that.
