2016-10-31s390: char: make con3215 explicitly non-modularPaul Gortmaker1-11/+1
The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of this code is: drivers/s390/char/Kconfig:config TN3215 drivers/s390/char/Kconfig: def_bool y ...meaning that it currently is not being built as a module by anyone. Lets remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only. Since module_init translates to device_initcall in the non-modular case, the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit. We don't replace module.h with init.h since the file already has that. Note: the transforms for test_and_set_bit() and test_and_clear_bit() are unnecessary as the state transitions are already mutually exclusive; the tty lock prevents concurrent open/close/hangup. 2014-08-15s390/3215: fix tty output containing tabsMartin Schwidefsky1-3/+17
git commit 37f81fa1f63ad38e16125526bb2769ae0ea8d332 "n_tty: do O_ONLCR translation as a single write" surfaced a bug in the 3215 device driver. In combination this broke tab expansion for tty ouput. The cause is an asymmetry in the behaviour of tty3215_ops->write vs tty3215_ops->put_char. The put_char function scans for '\t' but the write function does not. As the driver has logic for the '\t' expansion remove XTABS from c_oflag of the initial termios as well. The ccw_device_start in raw3215_start_io can fail. raw3215_try_io does not check if the request could be started and removes any pending timer. This can leave the system in a hanging state. Drivers for ccw consoles use ccw_device_probe_console to receive an initialized ccw device which is already enabled for interrupts. After that the device driver does the initialization of its private data. This can race with unsolicited interrupts which can happen once the device is enabled for interrupts. Split ccw_device_probe_console into ccw_device_create_console and ccw_device_enable_console and reorder the initialization of the ccw console drivers. While at it mark these functions as __init. 2014-02-21s390/cio: fix driver callback initialization for ccw consolesSebastian Ott1-1/+1
ccw consoles are in use before they can be properly registered with the driver core. For devices which are in use by a device driver we rely on the ccw_device's pointer to the driver callbacks to be valid. For ccw consoles this pointer is NULL until they are registered later during boot and we dereferenced this pointer. This worked by chance on 64 bit builds (cdev->drv was NULL but the optional callback cdev->drv->path_event was also NULL by coincidence) and was unnoticed until we received reports about boot failures on 31 bit systems. Fix it by initializing the driver pointer for ccw consoles. Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more tty_port_tty_get in those paths. Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed: tty_flip_buffer_push. IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get at all yet. Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h to include/linux/tty_flip.h to all others while we are changing it anyway. 2013-01-08s390/3215: partially revert tty close handling fixHeiko Carstens1-1/+5
Partially revert ae289dc1f "s390/3215: fix tty close handling", since this leads sometimes to hanging agetty processes and therefore systems that get stuck while starting. This was magically fixed (bisected) by a common code patch from Alan Cox: 36b3c070 "tty: Move the handling of the tty release logic", however it was unrelated. Since the removed code worked for a decade, nobody knows anymore why it was in there in the first place and debugging the observed hang is non-trivial (at least for me :) ), let's just re-add the removed code before we see other side effects. 2013-01-08s390/irq: remove split irq fields from /proc/statHeiko Carstens1-1/+1
Now that irq sum accounting for /proc/stat's "intr" line works again we have the oddity that the sum field (first field) contains only the sum of the second (external irqs) and third field (I/O interrupts). The reason for that is that these two fields are already sums of all other fields. So if we would sum up everything we would count every interrupt twice. This is broken since the split interrupt accounting was merged two years ago: 052ff461c8427629aee887ccc27478fc7373237c "[S390] irq: have detailed statistics for interrupt types". To fix this remove the split interrupt fields from /proc/stat's "intr" line again and only have them in /proc/interrupts. This restores the old behaviour, seems to be the only sane fix and mimics a behaviour from other architectures where /proc/interrupts also contains more than /proc/stat's "intr" line does. After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this assumption. To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places. This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed. This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places. The 3215 console always has the RAW3215_FIXED flag set, which causes raw3215_shutdown() not to wait for outstanding I/O requests if an attached tty gets closed. The flag however can be simply removed, so we can guarantee that all requests belonging to the tty have been processed when the tty is closed. However the tasklet that belongs to the 3215 device may be scheduled even if there is no tty attached anymore, since we have a race between console and tty processing. There are two copies of allocations of device information. One of them is totally broken. See: raw->cdev = cdev; raw->inbuf = (char *) raw + sizeof(struct raw3215_info); memset(raw, 0, sizeof(struct raw3215_info)); It suggests that this path was never executed. The code uses both raw->cdev and raw->inbuf all over. And it is NULL due to the memset here, so it would panic immediately. I believe nobody used that driver without being a system console. Either way, let us fix it by moving the allocations (and initializations) to a single place. This will save us some double initializations later too. And while at it, initialize the timer properly -- once, at the allocation. Checking if tty->index is in bounds is not needed. The tty has the index set in the initial open. This is done in get_tty_driver. And it can be only in interval <0,driver->num). So remove the tests which check exactly this interval. Some are left untouched as they check against the current backing device count. (Leaving apart that the check is racy in most of the cases.) The 3215 driver calls tty_wakeup from irq context while holding the device spinlock. If printk is called by any function on the callchain starting from tty_wakeup the system deadlocks on the device spinlock. Using a tasklet to call tty_wakup solves the problem. Introduce the power management callbacks to the 3215 console. On suspend the console buffer is flushed to the 3215 device to have an empty console buffer. Printks done while the 3215 device is suspended are buffered in the 64K buffer of the 3215 device. If the buffer is full new messages will push out the oldest messages to make room for the most recent message. On resume the buffered messages are printed. In the near future, the driver core is going to not allow direct access to the driver_data pointer in struct device. Instead, the functions dev_get_drvdata() and dev_set_drvdata() should be used. These functions have been around since the beginning, so are backwards compatible with all older kernel versions. The 3215 console irq handler used to schedule a tasklet. However the console irq handler also gets called from the infamous cio_tpi() function. Which in turn does something like local_bh_disable() [call console irq handler] _local_bh_enable() _local_bh_enable() prevents execution of softirqs, which is intended within cio_tpi(). However there might be a new softirq pending because irq handler scheduled a tasklet. In order to prevent this behaviour we just get rid of the tasklet. It's not doing much anyway. The s390 console drivers use the unblank callback of the console structure to flush the console buffer. In case of a panic or a reboot the CPU doing the callback can block on the console i/o. The other CPUs in the system continue to work. For panic this is not a good idea. Replace the unblank callback with proper panic/reboot notifier.
