Add sdei_event_signal(), a thin wrapper over the SDEI_EVENT_SIGNAL call (DEN0054) that makes the software-signalled event (event 0) pending on a target PE -- delivered NMI-like even when that PE has interrupts masked. It takes no locks, so it is safe to call from NMI / crash context. 2026-07-31net: phy: c45: add setup and read master/slave helpersJaven Xu1-0/+5
This patch adds two static helpers in drivers/net/phy/phy-c45.c to configure and read back master-slave roles for non BASE-T1 Clause 45 PHYs via the 10GBASE-T AN control/status registers. These helpers are wired into genphy_c45_config_aneg() and genphy_c45_read_status(). This changes the observable ethtool output for drivers using the generic c45 read path. It sums up the memory requirements of individual Low Latency components in the pipeline and sends the summed up values in pipeline create message. 2026-07-31misc: fastrpc: Add polling mode support for fastRPC driverEkansh Gupta1-0/+29
For any remote call to DSP, after sending an invocation message, the fastRPC driver waits for a glink response, during which the CPU can enter low power modes. This adds latency to the fastRPC call due to CPU wakeup and scheduling overhead. Add polling mode support where the fastRPC driver polls a shared memory location for completion after sending the invocation, avoiding CPU wakeup and scheduling latency and reducing fastRPC overhead. If the poll times out, the call falls back to the normal interrupt/glink-based completion path. Poll mode is only applied to dynamic modules running in a user PD (handle > FASTRPC_MAX_STATIC_HANDLE), since static/root-PD handles are not expected to benefit from, or require, this optimization. Support is advertised per SoC via fastrpc_soc_data, with a closed exception list for older platforms whose DSP firmware is known to support polling but which otherwise use the default soc_data. Poll mode can be enabled by userspace via the FASTRPC_IOCTL_SET_OPTION ioctl with the FASTRPC_POLL_MODE request id. Since context IDs (ctxid) are allocated from a fixed-size, per-channel cyclic IDR shared by all processes on a DSP, a context ID can be recycled for a new request soon after it is freed. In poll mode the context can be considered complete (and released) as soon as the poll memory is updated, while the corresponding glink COMPLETE response from the DSP may still be in flight. If that response arrives after the ctxid has been reused, it would otherwise match the new context and incorrectly signal completion for it while the DSP may still be operating on the new context's buffers. To prevent this, embed a monotonically increasing per-channel sequence number in the unused upper bits of the ctxid/message context and validate it in the rpmsg callback, dropping any response whose sequence number does not match the current owner of that ctxid slot. 2026-07-30KVM: arm64: Add KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_STRICT vCPU featureCongkai Tan1-0/+1
Introduce a new vCPU feature KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_STRICT. When set, KVM does not create a default PMU when initializing the vCPU, and userspace must select one explicitly via KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_SET_PMU before the first KVM_RUN. The flag forces the VMM to be aware of the PMU implementation of the guest to be created, so that certain information about the PMU becomes deterministic (if on a heterogeneous system) and becomes safe to be exposed to the guest. It can be used as an umbrella flag to gate future PMUv3 UAPI changes. When no default PMU is created, kvm->arch.arm_pmu stays NULL until SET_PMU runs, so kvm_arm_pmu_v3_init() now refuses to run if kvm->arch.arm_pmu is NULL. 2026-07-30mm: hugetlb: move mpol interpretation out of alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio_with_mpol()Ackerley Tng1-1/+1
Move memory policy interpretation out of alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio_with_mpol() and into alloc_hugetlb_folio() to separate reading and interpretation of memory policy from actual allocation. This will later allow memory policy to be interpreted outside of the process of allocating a hugetlb folio entirely. This opens doors for other callers of the HugeTLB folio allocation function, such as guest_memfd, where memory may not always be mapped and hence may not have an associated vma. Introduce struct mempolicy_interpreted to hold all the components of an interpreted memory policy. Rename alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio_with_mpol() to alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio() since the function no longer interprets memory policy. No functional change intended. 2026-07-30net: nexthop: add NHA_DST_PORT for fdb nexthopsJack Ma1-0/+3
Commit 1274e1cc4226 ("vxlan: ecmp support for mac fdb entries") lets a single inner MAC be reached through a group of remote VTEPs, with the kernel flow-hashing across the group members. Each member carries its own remote IP, but the UDP destination port is always taken from the VXLAN device (vxlan->cfg.dst_port) and cannot be set per member. Some deployments pack several receivers behind one underlay IP and tell them apart by UDP port, so they need a per-nexthop destination port to spread flows across (IP, port) tuples rather than IP alone. Add a netlink attribute NHA_DST_PORT (__be16, mirroring NDA_PORT) that carries an optional UDP destination port on an fdb nexthop. It is only accepted together with NHA_FDB and NHA_GATEWAY; it is stored in struct nh_info and echoed back on dump. The attribute is named generically rather than fdb-specific so it can be reused should another nexthop type ever need a destination port. This patch is control-plane plumbing only; the VXLAN datapath is wired up in a follow-up patch, so behaviour is unchanged for now. Add the scaffolding for the parameters and statistics buffers for Dreamchip RPPX1. The parameters for each ISP function block will be added together with the logic for it. In addition to the scaffolding add a common struct that describes the measurement window. This struct is not specific to any block and will used by many of them. 2026-07-28scsi: smartpqi: Add support for CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU ioctlDavid Strahan1-0/+1
Add pqi_big_passthru_ioctl() to handle CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU ioctl requests. The existing passthru ioctl uses a 16-bit integer for the I/O buffer size, limiting transfers to 64KB. The big passthru ioctl uses BIG_IOCTL_Command_struct which stores the buffer size as a 32-bit integer, allowing larger transfers required by some management utilities. Add CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU_SUPPORTED to uapi/linux/cciss_ioctl.h and return 0 from pqi_ioctl() to advertise driver support. Userspace tools can send this ioctl to probe whether the driver supports CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU before issuing it. 2026-07-28drm/fourcc: Add modifiers for AMD GFX6-8Timur Kristóf1-18/+191
GFX6-8 are the oldest GPUs supported by the amdgpu kernel driver, and the last ones that didn't support DRM format modifiers until now. These are the Southern Islands, Sea Islands and Volcanic Islands families of GPUs. On GFX6-8, the GFX block can only use pre-determined tiling modes which are programmed by the kernel according to the tiling mode table. GFX6 uses the GB_TILE_MODE0...31 registers, and GFX7-8 also has GB_MACROTILE_MODE0...15 registers. DCC is also supported on GFX8, albeit not displayable. Note that the tiling table is uAPI and userspace relies on specific modes being present at specific indices. How the tiling works is primarily determined by the so-called array mode. Use the TILE field to specify the array mode. Pixel data is organized into micro tiles. Each micro tile may be 8x8 / 8x8x4 / 8x8x8 pixels, depending on the array mode. Add the MICROTILE field to specify microtile mode. Microtiles may be further organized into macro tiles, which have many configurable parameters. Macro tile mode selection depends on how many bits per pixel an image has. Add the PIPE_CONFIG, TILE_SPLIT, BANK_WIDTH, BANK_HEIGHT, MACRO_TILE_ASPECT, NUM_BANKS fields to specify parameters of macro tiled modes. Furthermore, tiling is also influenced by memory configuration. Old RFC patches received feedback concerning that, so I looked into it specifically: GB_ADDR_CONFIG.ROW_SIZE needs to be considered when calculating TILE_SPLIT, but does not need to be included in the modifiers, and also PIPE_INTERLEAVE matters, but it's hardcoded to the same value on all GFX6-8 GPUs and changing it would break userspace, so let's assume it isn't going to change. Therefore we don't need to include that in modifiers. Mesa also reads NUM_RANKS but actually doesn't use its value on GFX6-8. As a side note, tiling works similarly on GFX4-5 (that is Evergreen and Northern Islands). But that will need some additional PIPE_CONFIG enum values as well as some extra fields not relevant to GFX6-8. Initially, let's only expose the tiling modes that are most relevant to sharing buffers between different processes: Exposed array modes (TILE field): - 1D_TILED_THIN1: micro tiled only - 2D_TILED_THIN1: macro tiled Exposed micro tile modes (MICROTILE field): - DISPLAY: supported by DCE (the display engine) - THIN: more efficient but not displayable Exposed macro tile modes: All possible parameters (25088 permutations). More modes may be exposed in the future as needed. Technically, the amount of possible combinations of all possible tiling parameters is in the range of hundreds of thousands, but in practice, there are just a handful of possible modifiers for a surface. For example on GFX8, a surface would have these modifiers, from best to worst performance: - 2D_TILED_THIN1 + THIN + DCC + macrotile params [1] - 2D_TILED_THIN1 + THIN + macrotile params [1] - 2D_TILED_THIN1 + DISPLAY + macrotile params [1] - 1D_TILED_THIN1 + THIN - 1D_TILED_THIN1 + DISPLAY - LINEAR [1] The macro tiling parameters depend on how many bits per pixel of the specific surface has and how the chip is configured. There is only one set of valid macrotile params for a given surface. DCC is only supported by GFX8 and newer, and only with non-displayable macrotiling modes. When sharing buffers between different GFX6-8 GPUs, it is very unlikely that they support the exact same macrotiling configuration, so they will likely need to use micro tiled modes, which are still much better than using linear buffers. (Note that currently Mesa always uses LINEAR when copying between two GPUs.) 2026-07-28RDMA/bnxt_re: Add uverbs object handle path for CQ/SRQ toggle pageSelvin Xavier1-0/+3
The current GET_TOGGLE_MEM ioctl requires the caller to supply a type enum and a raw hardware queue ID (RES_ID). The kernel looks up the CQ or SRQ by that ID without verifying that the caller owns the resource. Add a new, preferred code path that accepts standard uverbs object handles (BNXT_RE_TOGGLE_MEM_CQ_HANDLE / BNXT_RE_TOGGLE_MEM_SRQ_HANDLE) instead. The uverbs core validates that the handle belongs to the calling context as part of resolving it, so this path no longer needs the driver's own XArray lookup for ownership checking. As with the legacy path, the toggle_entry's own mmap-entry refcount (not a CQ/SRQ uobject reference) is what pins the toggle page for the life of the GET_TOGGLE_MEM handle. Only newer rdma-core versions support this path, if the driver reports the supported resp mask (BNXT_RE_UCNTX_CMASK_TOGGLE_MEM_UOBJ_SUPPORT). The existing TYPE + RES_ID path is retained for backward compatibility with older rdma-core. 2026-07-28iommu/arm-smmu-v3-iommufd: Report CFGI/TLBI-repeat erratumAshish Mhetre1-1/+12
A guest with access to VCMDQ generates its own invalidation commands and must apply any invalidation errata before submitting them. If the host also repeats those commands, each affected invalidation is issued four times instead of twice. Add IOMMU_HW_INFO_ARM_SMMUV3_ERRATA_REPEAT_TLBI_CFGI to report the CFGI/TLBI-repeat erratum to user space. This allows the VMM to expose the erratum to the guest or apply the workaround itself. Use the raw __arm_smmu_cmdq_issue_cmdlist() helper for user-provided invalidations so the host does not apply the workaround a second time. Add arm_smmu_erratum_repeat_tlbi_cfgi() to query the static key when populating the SMMUv3 hardware information. Add a new file descriptor sentinel FD_FAILFS_ROOT following FD_PIDFS_ROOT and FD_NSFS_ROOT and teach fchdir() to accept it. A process calling fchdir(FD_FAILFS_ROOT) moves its working directory into failfs. Every AT_FDCWD-relative lookup afterwards fails with EOPNOTSUPP including "." and ".." and getcwd() reports the working directory as unreachable from the process root by returning a path prefixed with "(unreachable)". Lookups relative to explicit directory file descriptors are unaffected. The sentinel is the only way in. No privilege or gating is required. Setting the working directory to a directory in which every operation fails grants nothing and loses nothing that closing file descriptors couldn't lose. An unlinked working directory behaves the same way today modulo errno. The working directory also plays no role in confining ".." resolution so no boundary is weakened. nullfs provides a permanently empty and immutable directory. Lookups fail with ENOENT. The directory can be opened, read, stat, mounted upon. It behaves like nothing is there. Add its counterpart failfs where the semantics are not "there is nothing here" but "nothing is supported here". Every operation that reaches the filesystem fails with EOPNOTSUPP. Even statfs()/fstatfs() fail so the filesystem cannot be discovered through an fd to it. EOPNOTSUPP rather than a permission errno keeps that coherent. There is no permission model in which anything could ever be allowed and EACCES or EPERM would merely suggest that different credentials might succeed while EIO would suggest corruption. It also makes hitting the failfs boundary mostly quite dinstinguishable. A task anchoring its lookups at real directory file descriptors may be able to tell a failfs refusal from an ordinary permission failure. I wouldn't go so far as guaranteeing that but it should mostly work. No path lookup can open the root, not even with O_PATH. It is never reached by a lookup in a parent directory. The only way to a path-walk terminal at the root is a jump through a /proc/<pid>/{root,cwd} magic link or by mountpoint traversal. The root also refuses ->d_weak_revalidate() which the VFS calls for jumped terminals. That covers the jump-based references too: an O_PATH open is refused, name_to_handle_at() cannot encode it into a file handle, and following a magic link into it fails. A plain readlink() of such a link still works and shows "failfs:/". There is a single instance of failfs mounted during early boot via kern_mount() making it logically distinct from every mount namespace. Since the mount is a member of no mount namespace mounting onto it fails. So nothing can ever be mounted on top of it. It cannot be cloned via OPEN_TREE_CLONE and it does not show up in statmount()/listmount() or /proc/<pid>/mountinfo. The filesystem is not registered so it is not visible in /proc/filesystems and cannot be mounted from userspace. This lets tasks shed their filesystem state completely. A process with its root directory or working directory in failfs must anchor every path lookup at an explicit file descriptor or is doomed to fail any lookup. Absolute paths, absolute symlinks, and AT_FDCWD-relative lookups simply fail. Followup patches will expose it via a new FD_FAILFS_ROOT file descriptor sentinel understood by fchdir() and the new fchroot() system call. Add an optional UMEM attribute that backs the SRQ WQE buffer, so userspace can supply it as either a VA or a dma-buf through a single descriptor, consistent with the CQ and QP create methods. mlx5 is the only driver that pins an SRQ WQE buffer via umem; it maps a single ucmd->buf_addr region through this attribute. No other driver implements a user SRQ buffer, so none of them use the attribute. Implement returning to userspace applications PDNs of created PDs. The PDN is used by applications that build work requests outside of the rdma-core code base. The PDN is used to build work requests that require mentioning the PD. The HW still ensures PD isolation using PDN attached to MRs and WRs, therefore the PDN mentioned in the work request must match the PDN of the used work queue. The work requests can fit only 16 bit PDNs. Allow users to request short PDNs which are 16 bits. The capability to request short PDN and get PDN is encoded in the response of alloc user context IOCTL. Currently EFA WRs support 16-bit request ID, this requires EFA to manage a translation table to translate the IB WR ID from 64-bits to 16-bits and translating it back on CQ completion. Expose a new device capability to handle 64-bit request ID for SQ WRs allowing userspace to directly post the 64-bit ID to the device. "Notification" is too long and the abbreviated version is used in several places, which is inconsistent and more ambiguous for users. Rename it to event, which is easier to keep consistent. To keep the change small, only change uapi/ + do necessary fix ups, and the rest of internals can be adjusted in the next release.
