The 'source_stmt' nonterminal takes a 'prompt', which consists of either a T_WORD or a T_WORD_QUOTE, both of which are always allocated on the heap in zconf.l and need to have their associated strings freed. Free them. The existing code already makes sure to always copy the string, but add a warning to sym_expand_string_value() to make it clear that the string must be copied, just in case. Prior to this fix, zconf.y did not free symbol names from zconf.l in these contexts: - After T_CONFIG ('config LEAKED') - After T_MENUCONFIG ('menuconfig LEAKED') - After T_SELECT ('select LEAKED') - After T_IMPLY ('imply LEAKED') - After T_DEFAULT in a choice ('default LEAKED') All of these come in the form of T_WORD tokens, which always have their associated string allocated on the heap in zconf.l and need to be freed. Fix by introducing a new nonterminal 'nonconst_symbol' which takes a T_WORD, fetches the symbol, and then frees the T_WORD string. The already existing 'symbol' nonterminal works the same way but also accepts T_WORD_QUOTE, corresponding to a constant symbol. T_WORD_QUOTE should not be accepted in any of the contexts above, so the 'symbol' nonterminal can't be reused here. Fetching the symbol in 'nonconst_symbol' also removes a bunch of sym_lookup() calls from actions. 2017-12-16kconfig: generate lexer and parser during build instead of shippingMasahiro Yamada3-4944/+1
zconf.lex.c is generated by flex, zconf.tab.c by bison. Instead of running flex and bison during the kernel building, we conventionally version-control those artifacts with _shipped suffix. It is tedious to manually regenerate them every time we change the real sources, zconf.l and zconf.y. Remove the _shipped files and switch over to build-time generation of the intermediate C files. 2017-12-16kbuild: prepare to remove C files pre-generated by flex and bisonMasahiro Yamada2-3/+42
In Linux build system convention, pre-generated files are version- controlled with a "_shipped" suffix. During the kernel building, they are simply shipped (copied) removing the suffix. This approach can reduce external tool dependency for the kernel build, but it is tedious to manually regenerate such artifacts from developers' point of view. (We need to do "make REGENERATE_PARSERS=1" every time we touch real source files such as *.l, *.y) Some months ago, I sent out RFC patches to run flex, bison, and gperf during the build. In the review and test, Linus noticed gperf-3.1 had changed the lookup function prototype. Then, the use of gperf in kernel was entirely removed by commit bb3290d91695 ("Remove gperf usage from toolchain"). This time, I tested several versions of flex and bison, and I was not hit by any compatibility issue except a flaw in flex-2.6.3; if you generate lexer for dtc and genksyms with flex-2.6.3, you will see "yywrap redefined" warning. This was not intentional, but a bug, fixed by flex-2.6.4. Otherwise, both flex and bison look fairly stable for a long time. This commit prepares some build rules to remove the _shipped files. Also, document minimal requirement for flex and bison. Rationale for the minimal version: The -Wmissing-prototypes option of GCC warns "no previous prototype" for lexers generated by flex-2.5.34 or older, so I chose 2.5.35 as the required version for flex. Flex-2.5.35 was released in 2008. Bison looks more stable. I did not see any problem with bison-2.0, released in 2004. I did not test bison-1.x, but bison-2.0 should be old enough. Commit 1c199f2878f6 ("kbuild: document recursive dependency limitation / resolution") probably intended to show a hint along with "recursive dependency detected!" error, but it missed to add {...} guard, and the hint is displayed in every loop of the dep_stack traverse, annoyingly. Kconfig currently doesn't handle 'm' appearing in a Kconfig file before the modules symbol is defined (the symbol with 'option modules'). The problem is the following code, which runs during parsing: /* change 'm' into 'm' && MODULES */ if (e->left.sym == &symbol_mod) return expr_alloc_and(e, expr_alloc_symbol(modules_sym)); If the modules symbol has not yet been defined, modules_sym is NULL, giving an invalid expression. Here is a test file where both BEFORE_1 and BEFORE_2 trigger a segfault. If the modules symbol is removed, all symbols trigger segfaults. config BEFORE_1 def_tristate y if m if m config BEFORE_2 def_tristate y endif config MODULES def_bool y option modules config AFTER_1 def_tristate y if m if m config AFTER_2 def_tristate y endif Fix the issue by rewriting 'm' in menu_finalize() instead. This function runs after parsing and is the proper place to do it. The following existing code in conf_parse() in zconf.y ensures that the modules symbol exists at that point: if (!modules_sym) modules_sym = sym_find( "n" ); ... menu_finalize(&rootmenu); The following tests were done to ensure no functional changes for configurations that don't reference 'm' before the modules symbol: - zconfdump(stdout) was run with ARCH=x86 and ARCH=arm before and after the change and verified to produce identical output. This function prints all symbols, choices, and menus together with their properties and their dependency expressions. A rewritten 'm' appears as 'm && MODULES'. A small annoyance is that the assert(len != 0) in xfwrite() needs to be disabled in order to use zconfdump(), because it chokes on e.g. 'default ""'. - The Kconfiglib test suite was run to indirectly verify that alldefconfig, allyesconfig, allnoconfig, and all defconfigs in the kernel still generate the same final .config. - Valgrind was used to check for memory errors and (new) memory leaks. (The mistake is harmless here: Since the default symbol is not visible, the choice falls back on using the first visible symbol as the default, which is CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_PERFORMANCE, as intended.) 2017-12-01arm64: fpsimd: Fix failure to restore FPSIMD state after signalsDave Martin1-3/+3
The fpsimd_update_current_state() function is responsible for loading the FPSIMD state from the user signal frame into the current task during sigreturn. When implementing support for SVE, conditional code was added to this function in order to handle the case where SVE state need to be loaded for the task and merged with the FPSIMD data from the signal frame; however, the FPSIMD-only case was unintentionally dropped. As a result of this, sigreturn does not currently restore the FPSIMD state of the task, except in the case where the system supports SVE and the signal frame contains SVE state in addition to FPSIMD state. This patch fixes this bug by making the copy-in of the FPSIMD data from the signal frame to thread_struct unconditional. This remains a performance regression from v4.14, since the FPSIMD state is now copied into thread_struct and then loaded back, instead of _only_ being loaded into the CPU FPSIMD registers. However, it is essential to call task_fpsimd_load() here anyway in order to ensure that the SVE enable bit in CPACR_EL1 is set correctly before returning to userspace. This could use some refactoring, but since sigreturn is not a fast path I have kept this patch as a pure fix and left the refactoring for later. 2017-12-01arm64: ftrace: emit ftrace-mod.o contents through codeArd Biesheuvel7-31/+22
When building the arm64 kernel with both CONFIG_ARM64_MODULE_PLTS and CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE enabled, the ftrace-mod.o object file is built with the kernel and contains a trampoline that is linked into each module, so that modules can be loaded far away from the kernel and still reach the ftrace entry point in the core kernel with an ordinary relative branch, as is emitted by the compiler instrumentation code dynamic ftrace relies on. In order to be able to build out of tree modules, this object file needs to be included into the linux-headers or linux-devel packages, which is undesirable, as it makes arm64 a special case (although a precedent does exist for 32-bit PPC). Given that the trampoline essentially consists of a PLT entry, let's not bother with a source or object file for it, and simply patch it in whenever the trampoline is being populated, using the existing PLT support routines. 2017-12-01afs: Properly reset afs_vnode (inode) fieldsDavid Howells2-2/+17
When an AFS inode is allocated by afs_alloc_inode(), the allocated afs_vnode struct isn't necessarily reset from the last time it was used as an inode because the slab constructor is only invoked once when the memory is obtained from the page allocator. This means that information can leak from one inode to the next because we're not calling kmem_cache_zalloc(). Some of the information isn't reset, in particular the permit cache pointer. Fix four refcount bugs in afs_cache_permit(): (1) When checking the result of the kzalloc(), we can't just return, but must put 'permits'. (2) We shouldn't put permits immediately after hashing a new permit as we need to keep the pointer stable so that we can check to see if vnode->permit_cache has changed before we decide whether to assign to it. (3) 'permits' is being put twice. (4) We need to put either the replacement or the thing replaced after the assignment to vnode->permit_cache. 2017-11-30hwmon: (jc42) optionally try to disable the SMBUS timeoutPeter Rosin2-0/+25
With a nxp,se97 chip on an atmel sama5d31 board, the I2C adapter driver is not always capable of avoiding the 25-35 ms timeout as specified by the SMBUS protocol. This may cause silent corruption of the last bit of any transfer, e.g. a one is read instead of a zero if the sensor chip times out. This also affects the eeprom half of the nxp-se97 chip, where this silent corruption was originally noticed. Other I2C adapters probably suffer similar issues, e.g. bit-banging comes to mind as risky... The SMBUS register in the nxp chip is not a standard Jedec register, but it is not special to the nxp chips either, at least the atmel chips have the same mechanism. Therefore, do not special case this on the manufacturer, it is opt-in via the device property anyway. 2017-11-30RISC-V: Allow userspace to flush the instruction cacheAndrew Waterman8-0/+105
Despite RISC-V having a direct 'fence.i' instruction available to userspace (which we can't trap!), that's not actually viable when running on Linux because the kernel might schedule a process on another hart. There is no way for userspace to handle this without invoking the kernel (as it doesn't know the thread->hart mappings), so we've defined a RISC-V specific system call to flush the instruction cache. This patch adds both a system call and a VDSO entry. If possible, we'd like to avoid having the system call be considered part of the user-facing ABI and instead restrict that to the VDSO entry -- both just in general to avoid having additional user-visible ABI to maintain, and because we'd prefer that users just call the VDSO entry because there might be a better way to do this in the future (ie, one that doesn't require entering the kernel). 2017-11-30RISC-V: Flush I$ when making a dirty page executableAndrew Waterman8-30/+174
The RISC-V ISA allows for instruction caches that are not coherent WRT stores, even on a single hart. As a result, we need to explicitly flush the instruction cache whenever marking a dirty page as executable in order to preserve the correct system behavior. Local instruction caches aren't that scary (our implementations actually flush the cache, but RISC-V is defined to allow higher-performance implementations to exist), but RISC-V defines no way to perform an instruction cache shootdown. When explicitly asked to do so we can shoot down remote instruction caches via an IPI, but this is a bit on the slow side. Instead of requiring an IPI to all harts whenever marking a page as executable, we simply flush the currently running harts. In order to maintain correct behavior, we additionally mark every other hart as needing a deferred instruction cache which will be taken before anything runs on it. The drivers are unlikely to work but they're included in allmodconfig so the warnings are noisy. 2017-11-30xfs: Properly retry failed dquot items in case of error during buffer writebackCarlos Maiolino2-5/+49
Once the inode item writeback errors is already fixed, it's time to fix the same problem in dquot code. Although there were no reports of users hitting this bug in dquot code (at least none I've seen), the bug is there and I was already planning to fix it when the correct approach to fix the inodes part was decided. This patch aims to fix the same problem in dquot code, regarding failed buffers being unable to be resubmitted once they are flush locked. 2017-11-30drm/imx: always call wait_for_flip_done in commit_tailLucas Stach1-2/+9
drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks will go away in the future. The new drm_atomic_helper_setup_commit in 4.15 expects that blocking commits have completed flipping before the commit_tail returns. This must be ensured by calling wait_for_vblanks or wait_for_flip_done, where flip_done might do a less agressive wait, which is fine for imx-drm. 2017-11-30drm: omapdrm: Fix DPI on platforms using the DSI VDDSLaurent Pinchart1-2/+2
Commit d178e034d565 ("drm: omapdrm: Move FEAT_DPI_USES_VDDS_DSI feature to dpi code") replaced usage of platform data version with SoC matching to configure DPI VDDS. The SoC match entries were incorrect, they should have matched on the machine name instead of the SoC family. Fix it. The result was observed on OpenPandora with OMAP3530 where the panel only had the Blue channel and Red&Green were missing. It was not observed on GTA04 with DM3730. 2017-11-30omapdrm: hdmi4: Correct the SoC revision matchingPeter Ujfalusi1-6/+17
I believe the intention of the commit 2c9fc9bf45f8 ("drm: omapdrm: Move FEAT_HDMI_* features to hdmi4 driver") was to identify omap4430 ES1.x, omap4430 ES2.x and other OMAP4 revisions, like omap4460. By using family=OMAP4 in the match the code will treat omap4460 ES1.x in a same way as it would treat omap4430 ES1.x This breaks HDMI audio on OMAP4460 devices (PandaES for example). Correct the match rule so we are not going to get false positive match. We seem to be missing some W/A for 2M pages and are getting a hit on raw GPU read bandwidths (even 30%) even though the GPU write bandwidths improve (even 10%).
