Fun set of conflict resolutions here... For the mac80211 stuff, these were fortunately just parallel adds. Trivially resolved. In drivers/net/phy/phy.c we had a bug fix in 'net' that moved the function phy_disable_interrupts() earlier in the file, whilst in 'net-next' the phy_error() call from this function was removed. In net/ipv4/xfrm4_policy.c, David Ahern's changes to remove the 'rt_table_id' member of rtable collided with a bug fix in 'net' that added a new struct member "rt_mtu_locked" which needs to be copied over here. The mlxsw driver conflict consisted of net-next separating the span code and definitions into separate files, whilst a 'net' bug fix made some changes to that moved code. The mlx5 infiniband conflict resolution was quite non-trivial, the RDMA tree's merge commit was used as a guide here, and here are their notes: ==================== Due to bug fixes found by the syzkaller bot and taken into the for-rc branch after development for the 4.17 merge window had already started being taken into the for-next branch, there were fairly non-trivial merge issues that would need to be resolved between the for-rc branch and the for-next branch. This merge resolves those conflicts and provides a unified base upon which ongoing development for 4.17 can be based. Conflicts: drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/main.c - Commit 42cea83f9524 (IB/mlx5: Fix cleanup order on unload) added to for-rc and commit b5ca15ad7e61 (IB/mlx5: Add proper representors support) add as part of the devel cycle both needed to modify the init/de-init functions used by mlx5. To support the new representors, the new functions added by the cleanup patch needed to be made non-static, and the init/de-init list added by the representors patch needed to be modified to match the init/de-init list changes made by the cleanup patch. There are two compatibility strings for mv88e6xxx, but it isn't clear from the documentation why only those two exist when the mv88e6xxx driver supports more than the 6085 and 6190. Briefly describe how the compatible property is used, and provide guidance on which to use. The model list comes from looking at port_base_addr values (0x0 vs 0x10) in drivers/net/dsa/mv88e6xxx/chip.c. 2017-12-14dt: bindings: add new dt entry for ath10k calibration variantSven Eckelmann1-0/+3
The bus + bmi-chip-id + bmi-board-id is not enough to identify the correct board data file on QCA4019 based devices. Multiple different boards share the same values. Only the original reference designs can currently be identified and loaded from the board-2.bin. But these will not result in the correct calibration data when combined with the pre-calibration data from the device. An additional "variant" information has to be provided (via SMBIOS or DT) to select the correct board data for a design which was modified by an ODM. The GPIO polarity passed to phy-reset-gpio is ignored by the FEC driver and it is assumed to be active low. It can be active high only when the 'phy-reset-active-high' property is present. The current examples pass active high polarity and work fine, but in order to improve the documentation make it explicit what the real polarity is. 2017-12-05phylib: Add device reset GPIO supportSergei Shtylyov1-0/+2
The PHY devices sometimes do have their reset signal (maybe even power supply?) tied to some GPIO and sometimes it also does happen that a boot loader does not leave it deasserted. So far this issue has been attacked from (as I believe) a wrong angle: by teaching the MAC driver to manipulate the GPIO in question; that solution, when applied to the device trees, led to adding the PHY reset GPIO properties to the MAC device node, with one exception: Cadence MACB driver which could handle the "reset-gpios" prop in a PHY device subnode. I believe that the correct approach is to teach the 'phylib' to get the MDIO device reset GPIO from the device tree node corresponding to this device -- which this patch is doing... Note that I had to modify the AT803x PHY driver as it would stop working otherwise -- it made use of the reset GPIO for its own purposes... The FlexCAN controller can be modelled as little or big endian depending on SOC design. This device tree property identifies the controller endianness and the driver reads/writes controller registers based on that. This is optional property. i.e. if this property is not present in device tree node then controller is assumed to be little endian. if this property is present then controller is assumed to be big endian. There are two different combined signal for various interrupt events: In EQOS-CORE and EQOS-MTL configurations, mci_intr_o is the interrupt signal. In EQOS-DMA, EQOS-AHB and EQOS-AXI configurations, these interrupt events are combined with the events in the DMA on the sbd_intr_o signal. Depending on configuration, the device tree irq "macirq" will refer to either mci_intr_o or sbd_intr_o. The databook states: "The MAC generates the LPI interrupt when the Tx or Rx side enters or exits the LPI state. The interrupt mci_intr_o (sbd_intr_o in certain configurations) is asserted when the LPI interrupt status is set. When the MAC exits the Rx LPI state, then in addition to the mci_intr_o (sbd_intr_o in certain configurations), the sideband signal lpi_intr_o is asserted. If you do not want to gate-off the application clock during the Rx LPI state, you can leave the lpi_intr_o signal unconnected and use the mci_intr_o (sbd_intr_o in certain configurations) signal to detect Rx LPI exit." Since the "macirq" is always raised when Tx or Rx enters/exits the LPI state, "eth_lpi" must therefore refer to lpi_intr_o, which is only raised when Rx exits the LPI state. Add fallback compatibility strings for R-Car Gen 1 and 2. In the case of Renesas R-Car hardware we know that there are generations of SoCs, f.e. Gen 1 and 2. But beyond that its not clear what the relationship between IP blocks might be. For example, I believe that r8a7790 is older than r8a7791 but that doesn't imply that the latter is a descendant of the former or vice versa. We can, however, by examining the documentation and behaviour of the hardware at run-time observe that the current driver implementation appears to be compatible with the IP blocks on SoCs within a given generation. For the above reasons and convenience when enabling new SoCs a per-generation fallback compatibility string scheme is being adopted for drivers for Renesas SoCs. Note that R-Car Gen2 and RZ/G1 have many compatible IP blocks. The approach that has been consistently taken for other IP blocks is to name common code, compatibility strings and so on after R-Car Gen2.
