Both microcontrollers are part of the GT HW and are closely related to GT operations. The "misc" terminology doesn't clearly explain what we intend to cover in this phase. The only thing we used ot do in there apart from FW fetch was initializing the log workqueue, with the latter being required only in the very rare case where we enable the log relay. 2019-07-11drm/i915/guc: Remove preemption support for current fwChris Wilson1-9/+0
Preemption via GuC submission is not being supported with its current legacy incarnation. The current FW does support a similar pre-emption flow via H2G, but it is class-based instead of being instance-based, which doesn't fit well with the i915 tracking. During reset, we must be very selective in which locks we take as most are tainted by being held across a wait or reclaim (kmalloc) which implicitly waits. Inside the guc reset path, we reset the ADS to sane defaults, but must keep it pinned from initialisation to avoid having to pin it during reset. 2019-06-21drm/i915/guc: handle GuC messages received with CTB disabledDaniele Ceraolo Spurio1-0/+5
There is a very small chance of triggering a log flush event when enabling or disabling CT buffers. Events triggered while CT buffers are disabled are logged in the SCRATCH_15 register using the same bits used in the CT message payload. Since our communication channel with GuC is turned off, we can save the message and handle it after we turn it back on. GuC and HuC depend on struct_mutex for device reinitialization. Moving away from this dependency requires perma-pinning the firmware images in GGTT. The upper portion of the GuC address space has a sizeable hole (several MB) that is inaccessible by GuC. GuC stores some data in there, which might be stale after a reset. We already reset the WQ head and tail, but more things are being moved to the descriptor with the interface updates. 2018-07-27drm/i915/guc: Move the pin bias value from GuC to GGTTJakub Bartmiński1-7/+5
Removing the pin bias from GuC allows us to not check for GuC every time we pin a context, which fixes the assertion error on unresolved GuC platform default in mock contexts selftest. It also seems that we were using uninitialized WOPCM variables when setting the GuC pin bias. The pin bias has to be set after the WOPCM, but before the call to i915_gem_contexts_init where the first contexts are pinned. v2: This also makes it so that there's no need to set GuC variables from within the WOPCM init function or to move the WOPCM init, while keeping the correct initialization order. Also for mock tests the pin bias is left at 0 and we make sure that the pin bias with GuC will not be smaller than without GuC. v3: Avoid unused i915 in intel_guc_ggtt_offset if debug is disabled. v4: Squash with WOPCM init reordering. Moved the i915_ggtt_pin_bias helper to this patch, and made some functions use it instead of directly dereferencing i915->ggtt. v5: Since we now don't use wopcm.guc.base for the pin bias there's no need to validate it. It also has already been verified in WOPCM init. v6: Deleted the now unnecessarily introduced includes from previous versions. 2018-03-14drm/i915: Implement dynamic GuC WOPCM offset and size calculationJackie Li1-7/+11
Hardware may have specific restrictions on GuC WOPCM offset and size. On Gen9, the value of the GuC WOPCM size register needs to be larger than the value of GuC WOPCM offset register + a Gen9 specific offset (144KB) for reserved GuC WOPCM. Fail to enforce such a restriction on GuC WOPCM size will lead to GuC firmware execution failures. On the other hand, with current static GuC WOPCM offset and size values (512KB for both offset and size), the GuC WOPCM size verification will fail on Gen9 even if it can be fixed by lowering the GuC WOPCM offset by calculating its value based on HuC firmware size (which is likely less than 200KB on Gen9), so that we can have a GuC WOPCM size value which is large enough to pass the GuC WOPCM size check. This patch updates the reserved GuC WOPCM size for RC6 context on Gen9 to 24KB to strictly align with the Gen9 GuC WOPCM layout. It also adds support to verify the GuC WOPCM size aganist the Gen9 hardware restrictions. GuC related exported functions should start with "intel_guc_" prefix and pass intel_guc as the first parameter since its GuC related. Current guc_ggtt_offset() failed to follow this code convention and this is a problem for future patches that needs to access intel_guc data to verify the GGTT offset against the GuC WOPCM top. This patch renames the guc_ggtt_offset to intel_guc_ggtt_offset and updates the related code to pass intel_guc pointer to this function call, so that we can have a unified coding style for GuC code and also enable the future patches to get GuC related data from intel_guc to do the offset verification. Pretty similar to what we have on execlists. We're reusing most of the GEM code, however, due to GuC quirks we need a couple of extra bits. Preemption is implemented as GuC action, and actions can be pretty slow. Because of that, we're using a mutex to serialize them. Since we're requesting preemption from the tasklet, the task of creating a workitem and wrapping it in GuC action is delegated to a worker. To distinguish that preemption has finished, we're using additional piece of HWSP, and since we're not getting context switch interrupts, we're also adding a user interrupt. The fact that our special preempt context has completed unfortunately doesn't mean that we're ready to submit new work. GuC firmware sends a flush interrupt to Host when the log buffer is half full and at that time only it updates the log buffer state. But in certain cases, as described below, it could be useful to have all that even when log buffer is only partially full. For that there is a force log buffer flush Host2GuC action supported by GuC firmware. For Validation requirements, a forceful flush is needed to collect the left over logs on disabling logging. The same can be done before proceeding with GPU/GuC reset as there could be some data in log buffer which is yet to be captured and those logs would be particularly useful to understand that why the reset was initiated. GuC firmware sends an interrupt to flush the log buffer when it becomes half full. GuC firmware also tracks how many times the buffer overflowed. It would be useful to maintain a statistics of how many flush interrupts were received and for which type of log buffer, along with the overflow count of each buffer type. 2016-10-25drm/i915: Add a relay backed debugfs interface for capturing GuC logsAkash Goel1-0/+3
Added a new debugfs interface '/sys/kernel/debug/dri/guc_log' for the User to capture GuC firmware logs. Availed relay framework to implement the interface, where Driver will have to just use a relay API to store snapshots of the GuC log buffer in the buffer managed by relay. The snapshot will be taken when GuC firmware sends a log buffer flush interrupt and up to four snapshots could be stored in the relay buffer. The relay buffer will be operated in a mode where it will overwrite the data not yet collected by User. Besides mmap method, through which User can directly access the relay buffer contents, relay also supports the 'poll' method. Through the 'poll' call on log file, User can come to know whenever a new snapshot of the log buffer is taken by Driver, so can run in tandem with the Driver and capture the logs in a sustained/streaming manner, without any loss of data. v2: Defer the creation of relay channel & associated debugfs file, as debugfs setup is now done at the end of i915 Driver load. GuC ukernel sends an interrupt to Host to flush the log buffer and expects Host to correspondingly update the read pointer information in the state structure, once it has consumed the log buffer contents by copying them to a file or buffer. Even if Host couldn't copy the contents, it can still update the read pointer so that logging state is not disturbed on GuC side. v2: - Use a dedicated workqueue for handling flush interrupt. (Tvrtko) - Reduce the overall log buffer copying time by skipping the copy of crash buffer area for regular cases and copying only the state structure data in first page. v3: - Create a vmalloc mapping of log buffer. Driver should refrain from interpreting the log packet, as much possible and let Userspace parser detect the anomaly.
