2022-05-05net: ethernet: Prepare cleanup of powerpc's asm/prom.hChristophe Leroy2-2/+0
powerpc's asm/prom.h includes some headers that it doesn't need itself. In order to clean powerpc's asm/prom.h up in a further step, first clean all files that include asm/prom.h Some files don't need asm/prom.h at all. For those ones, just remove inclusion of asm/prom.h Some files don't need any of the items provided by asm/prom.h, but need some of the headers included by asm/prom.h. For those ones, add the needed headers that are brought by asm/prom.h at the moment and remove asm/prom.h Some files really need asm/prom.h but also need some of the headers included by asm/prom.h. For those one, leave asm/prom.h but also add the needed headers so that they can be removed from asm/prom.h in a later step. Since commit adeef3e32146 ("net: constify netdev->dev_addr") the bmac driver no longer builds with the following errors (pmac32_defconfig): linux/drivers/net/ethernet/apple/bmac.c: In function ‘bmac_probe’: linux/drivers/net/ethernet/apple/bmac.c:1287:20: error: assignment of read-only location ‘*(dev->dev_addr + (sizetype)j)’ 1287 | dev->dev_addr[j] = rev ? bitrev8(addr[j]): addr[j]; | ^ Fix it by making the modifications to a local macaddr variable and then passing that to eth_hw_addr_set(). We don't use the existing addr variable because the bitrev8() would mutate it, but it is already used unreversed later in the function. 2021-10-14ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in driversJakub Kicinski1-4/+4
This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. 2020-06-14treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'Masahiro Yamada1-5/+5
Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. 2020-05-19net: bmac: Fix read of MAC address from ROMJeremy Kerr1-1/+1
In bmac_get_station_address, We're reading two bytes at a time from ROM, but we do that six times, resulting in 12 bytes of read & writes. This means we will write off the end of the six-byte destination buffer. This change fixes the for-loop to only read/write six bytes. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson3-3/+0
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. 2015-03-23powerpc: Move Power Macintosh drivers to generic byteswappersDavid Gibson2-37/+37
ppc has special instruction forms to efficiently load and store values in non-native endianness. These can be accessed via the arch-specific {ld,st}_le{16,32}() inlines in arch/powerpc/include/asm/swab.h. However, gcc is perfectly capable of generating the byte-reversing load/store instructions when using the normal, generic cpu_to_le*() and le*_to_cpu() functions eaning the arch-specific functions don't have much point. Worse the "le" in the names of the arch specific functions is now misleading, because they always generate byte-reversing forms, but some ppc machines can now run a little-endian kernel. To start getting rid of the arch-specific forms, this patch removes them from all the old Power Macintosh drivers, replacing them with the generic byteswappers. I manually removed the conversions this script produces of casts with __force, __iomem and __user. @@ type T; T *p; @@ - (T *)p + p A function in atl1e_main.c was passed a const pointer when it actually modified elements of the structure. We check ether_type before registering the platform device in arch/m68k/mac/config.c. Doing the same test again in the driver is redundant so remove it. Multiple probes should not happen since the conversion to platform devices, so lose that test too. Then macmace.c need not include macintosh.h, so remove that and irq.h and include linux/interrupt.h explicitly. Tested on PowerBook 520, Quadra 660av, LC 630.
