As stated in [1], dma_set_mask() with a 64-bit mask will never fail if dev->dma_mask is non-NULL. So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason. So, if dma_set_mask_and_coherent() succeeds, 'using_dac' is known to be 'true'. This variable can be removed. Simplify code and remove some dead code accordingly. The BR-series installation guide from https://driverdownloads.qlogic.com/ mentions the cards support 10Gbase-SR/LR as well as direct attach cables. The cards only have SFP+ ports, so 10000baseT is not the right mode. Switch to using more specific link modes added in commit 5711a98221443 ("net: ethtool: add support for 1000BaseX and missing 10G link modes"). Only compile tested. 2021-03-17bna: Update driver to use ethtool_sprintfAlexander Duyck1-161/+105
Update the bnad_get_strings to make use of ethtool_sprintf and avoid unnecessary line wrapping. To do this we invert the logic for the string set test and instead exit immediately if we are not working with the stats strings. In addition the function is broken up into subfunctions for each area so that we can simply call ethtool_sprintf once for each string in a given subsection. 2020-09-25drivers/net/ethernet: clean up mis-targeted commentsJesse Brandeburg2-10/+18
As part of the W=1 cleanups for ethernet, a million [*] driver comments had to be cleaned up to get the W=1 compilation to succeed. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles. After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch. Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. 2020-03-02bna: bnad: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array memberGustavo A. R. Silva1-1/+1
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. We received two reports of BUG_ON in bnad_txcmpl_process() where hw_consumer_index appeared to be ahead of producer_index. Out of order write/read of these variables could explain these reports. bnad_start_xmit(), as a producer of tx descriptors, has a few memory barriers sprinkled around writes to producer_index and the device's doorbell but they're not paired with anything in bnad_txcmpl_process(), a consumer. Since we are synchronizing with a device, we must use mandatory barriers, not smp_*. Also, I didn't see the purpose of the last smp_mb() in bnad_start_xmit().
