When failed to bind qsets in cxgb_up() for opening device, napi isn't disabled. When open cxgb3 device next time, it will trigger a BUG_ON() in napi_enable(). Compile tested only. 2022-03-07net: cxgb3: Fix an error code when probing the driverZheyu Ma1-0/+1
During the process of driver probing, probe function should return < 0 for failure, otherwise kernel will treat value >= 0 as success. Therefore, the driver should set 'err' to -ENODEV when 'adapter->registered_device_map' is NULL. Otherwise kernel will assume that the driver has been successfully probed and will cause unexpected errors. 2022-01-09cxgb3: Remove useless DMA-32 fallback configurationChristophe JAILLET1-6/+5
As stated in [1], dma_set_mask() with a 64-bit mask never fails if dev->dma_mask is non-NULL. So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason. So, if dma_set_mask_and_coherent() succeeds, 'pci_using_dac' is known to be 1. Simplify code and remove some dead code accordingly. 2021-11-19cxgb3: Use struct_group() for memcpy() regionKees Cook1-3/+6
In preparation for FORTIFY_SOURCE performing compile-time and run-time field bounds checking for memcpy(), memmove(), and memset(), avoid intentionally writing across neighboring fields. Use struct_group() in struct rss_hdr around members imm_data and intr_gen, so they can be referenced together. This will allow memcpy() and sizeof() to more easily reason about sizes, improve readability, and avoid future warnings about writing beyond the end of imm_data. Use standard VPD API to replace t3_seeprom_write(), this prepares for removing this function. Chelsio T3 maps the EEPROM write protect flag to an arbitrary place in VPD address space, therefore we have to use pci_write_vpd_any(). Using the VPD API allows to simplify the code and completely get rid of t3_seeprom_read(). Note that we don't have to use pci_read_vpd_any() here because a VPD quirk sets dev->vpd.len to the full EEPROM size. Tested with a T320 card. 2021-10-14ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in driversJakub Kicinski2-2/+2
This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. 2021-08-23net: chelsio: switch from 'pci_' to 'dma_' APIChristophe JAILLET2-61/+50
The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below. It has been hand modified to use 'dma_set_mask_and_coherent()' instead of 'pci_set_dma_mask()/pci_set_consistent_dma_mask()' when applicable. This is less verbose. OFLD and CTRL TX queues can be stopped if there is no room in their DMA rings. If this happens, they're tried to be restarted later after having made some room in the corresponding ring. The tasks of restarting these queues were triggered using tasklets, but they can be replaced for workqueue works, getting them out of softirq context. This queues stop/restart probably doesn't happen often and they can be quite lengthy because they try to send all pending skbs. Moreover, given that probably the ring is not empty yet, so the DMA still has work to do, we don't need to be so fast to justify using tasklets/softirq instead of running in a thread. t3_sge_stop() is called from task context and from error handlers in interrupt context. It relies on in_interrupt() to differentiate the contexts. in_interrupt() is deprecated as it is ill defined and does not provide what it suggests. Instead of replacing it with some other construct, simply split the function into t3_sge_stop_dma(), which can be called from any context, and t3_sge_stop() which can be only called from task context. This has the advantage that any bogus invocation of t3_sge_stop() from wrong contexts can be caught by debug kernels instead of being papered over by the conditional. As part of the W=1 cleanups for ethernet, a million [*] driver comments had to be cleaned up to get the W=1 compilation to succeed. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles. After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch. The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. The cxgb3 driver for "Chelsio T3-based gigabit and 10Gb Ethernet adapters" implements a custom ioctl as SIOCCHIOCTL/SIOCDEVPRIVATE in cxgb_extension_ioctl(). One of the subcommands of the ioctl is CHELSIO_GET_MEM, which appears to read memory directly out of the adapter and return it to userspace. It's not entirely clear what the contents of the adapter memory contains, but the assumption is that it shouldn't be accessible to all users. So add a CAP_NET_ADMIN check to the CHELSIO_GET_MEM case. Put it after the is_offload() check, which matches two of the other subcommands in the same function which also check for is_offload() and CAP_NET_ADMIN. Found by Ilja by code inspection, not tested as I don't have the required hardware. One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo entry[]; }; size = sizeof(struct foo) + count * sizeof(struct boo); instance = kvzalloc(size, GFP_KERNEL); Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can now use the new struct_size() helper: instance = kvzalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL); Notice that, in this case, variable size is not necessary, hence it is removed.
