2020-10-18ixgbe: fix probing of multi-port devices with one MDIOJakub Kicinski1-9/+14
Ian reports that after upgrade from v5.8.14 to v5.9 only one of his 4 ixgbe netdevs appear in the system. Quoting the comment on ixgbe_x550em_a_has_mii(): * Returns true if hw points to lowest numbered PCI B:D.F x550_em_a device in * the SoC. There are up to 4 MACs sharing a single MDIO bus on the x550em_a, * but we only want to register one MDIO bus. This matches the symptoms, since the return value from ixgbe_mii_bus_init() is no longer ignored we need to handle the higher ports of x550em without an error. 2020-09-25intel-ethernet: clean up W=1 warnings in kdocJesse Brandeburg1-4/+4
This takes care of all of the trivial W=1 fixes in the Intel Ethernet drivers, which allows developers and maintainers to build more of the networking tree with more complete warning checks. There are three classes of kdoc warnings fixed: - cannot understand function prototype: 'x' - Excess function parameter 'x' description in 'y' - Function parameter or member 'x' not described in 'y' All of the changes were trivial comment updates on function headers. Inspired by Lee Jones' series of wireless work to do the same. The idea behind devres is that the release callbacks are called if probe fails. As we now check the return value of ixgbe_mii_bus_init(), we can drop the call devm_mdiobus_free() in error path as the release callback will be called automatically. Most dsa devices expect a 'struct mii_bus' pointer to talk to switches via the MII interface. While this works for dsa devices, it will not work safely with Linux PHYs in all configurations since the firmware of the ixgbe device may be polling some PHY addresses in the background. 2017-01-03ixgbe: Reduce I2C retry count on X550 devicesTony Nguyen1-1/+3
A retry count of 10 is likely to run into problems on X550 devices that have to detect and reset unresponsive CS4227 devices. So, reduce the I2C retry count to 3 for X550 and above. This should avoid any possible regressions in existing devices. 2016-11-04ixgbe: use link instead of I2C combined abstractionEmil Tantilov1-64/+4
Introduce ixgbe_link_operations struct with the following changes: read_i2c_combined => read_link read_i2c_combined_unlocked => read_link_unlocked write_i2c_combined => write_link write_i2c_combined_unlocked => write_link_unlocked This will allow X550EM_a to override these methods for MDIO access while X550EM_x provides methods to use I2C combined access. This also adds a new structure, ixgbe_link_info, to hold information about the link. Initially this is just method pointers and a bus address. The functions involved in combined I2C accesses were moved from ixgbe_phy.c to ixgbe_x550.c. The underlying functions that carry out the combined I2C accesses were left in ixgbe_phy.c because they share some functions with other I2C methods. v2 - set hw->link.ops in probe. v3 - check ii->link_ops before setting it since we don't have it for all devices. Instead of inhibiting PHY power control when manageability is present, only inhibit turning PHY power off when manageability is present. Consequently, PHY power will always be turned on when requested. Without this patch, some systems with X540 or X550 devices in some conditions will never get link. 2015-09-01ixgbe: Remove second instance of lan_id variableDon Skidmore1-3/+1
This patch removes the redundant lan_id in the phy struct and uses the bus version. Both variables exist and intend to represent the STATUS register LAN_ID field. However, phy.lan_id is not bit shifted so the phy.lan_id = 0x0 for LAN Id 0 and phy.lan_id = 0x4 for LAN Id 1. Where bus.lan_id is bit shifted so bus.lan_id = 0x0 for LAN Id 0 and bus.lan_id = 0x1 for LAN Id 1. There seems no need for the additional lan_id variable and this should make the code less confusing. Some of the register addresses and format where unfortunately changed between MAC types. To get around this we add a const u32 *mvals pointer to the ixgbe_hw struct to point to an array of mac-type-dependent values. These can include register offsets, masks, whatever can be in a u32. When the ixgbe_hw struct is initialized, a pointer to the appropriate array must be set. The X550 hardware will use more bits in the mask, so change the prototypes to match. This larger mask will require changes in callers which use the higher bits. Likewise since X550 will use different semaphore mask values and will use the lan_id value. So save these values in the ixgbe_phy_info struct. 2014-03-31ixgbe: fix ixgbe_check_reset_blocked() declarationJean Sacren1-1/+1
The commit c97506ab0e22 ("ixgbe: Add check for FW veto bit") introduced the new function ixgbe_check_reset_blocked() with a minor issue in declaration. Fix the declaration by changing the type specifier to bool as the definition returns a boolean value. Additionally all ixgbe_check_reset_blocked() callers are expected to return a boolean value.
